GDT: Official Trade Deadline 2025 Thread: Lets not Tuch our tails between our legs

  • Xenforo Cloud has upgraded us to version 2.3.6. Please report any issues you experience.
The amount of Cap Relief that a team gets from assigning a player to the AHL is the lesser of their Cap Hit and the NHL Minimum Salary + $375,000 (Buried Threshold). Therefore, if a player with a Cap Hit less than the Buried Threshold is sent down, their full Cap Hit no longer counts on the Team's total cap hit. If a player has a Cap Hit greater than the Buried Threshold, if they are sent to AHL the team's Cap Hit is the player Cap Hit - Buried Threshold. The Buried Threshold is as follows:

2024-25: $775,000 + $375,000 = $1,150,000

2025-26: $775,000 + $375,000 = $1,150,000

so because hes under the 1.150m threshold he doesn't doesnt have a "Buried" cap hit, therefore doesnt count against the cap

No Schenn return...

WTF is this trade? Trotz and Dubas are f***ing idiots.

If Sheary and Perbix were moved, Tampa would have enough for Maroon+Grzelcyk (with retention), or they could still go after Ferraro if a 3rd team retained, or Kunin for the bottom 6. This would mean Crozier or.another Syracuse dman as the #7, so there is that factor to consider as well.

SJ not having any retention spots because Burns, Hertl, and Karlsson is f***ing hilarious.

I wouldn't hate a Maroon reunion. If we could score him and one more big trade.... idk who is beating us
I don't think we can pull off a big trade. To do anything else we need to move Sheary, but that doesn't get us very far unless we are getting a retained contract. That's pretty much the only move we have left.

IMO we can't afford to move Perbix because it leaves us without any injury insurance whatsoever in the playoffs. I don't think we can move any defensemen at all, unless one is coming back.

Someone in the trade thread mentioned it might be step 1 of double retention on Schenn. That's the only way it makes even a little bit of sense.
On which one? Who is getting Luke then? Luke's contract is already pretty small, and it doesn't look like Nashville is retaining on Luke. Is the theory its a 4 team trade?

Took like an hour or two to get retention details on Gourde. But something has to be up here to make this make even a tiny bit of sense.

Lol, I mean, really, if it were true that someone needed double retention, we would be the top candidate.

Not saying they should, but if they liked Grzelcyk from the Pens, moving out Sheary and Perbix to bring in Maroon and Grzelcyk would work cap wise. Ferraro also works if Sheary moves, but Tampa would need another team to retain half on Ferraro for this season and next.

I am more inclined to believe that Trotz and Dubas are terrible at their jobs. Way more proof of that.

I'm a pretty major dubas critic in terms of philosophy, but in the spirit of being objective, I can't remember him making a deal that just made no sense for the team. Bad deals, sure, but at least you could track his logic and find the intent. This just seems like "hey let's fxxx around, Barry!"

I wonder what Nashville wants for Jankowski. Extra year at 800k. Maybe we can jingle some keys or other shiny things at Trotz for him.

You underestimate when two idiotic forces collide. Look at what happens when me and @Stammertime91 and @AlwaysSunnyInTampa talk.

I'm fine with moving a guy like Cirelli if needs be. But if would have to be a big move with likely retention anyway. The Tuch dream may be dead

At this point, only minor depth deals are likely to happen. No chance any of the top 8 F's are getting shipped, but there's a chance a 4th liner or a 6/7 caliber dman could be acquired imo.

Our trade history with Nashville says the price would start at Kucherov and we would probably add.

They could still go after someone like Morgan Geekie as well. If Boston retained, it would be better, but not a dealbreaker. Tampa would have to overpay of course, but it's an idea. If Tampa found a 3rd team to retain on Kunin, they could send the Sharks luke a 3rd+5th+Sheary and a 4th to a 3rd team for the retention. Perbix+a pick for Dumoulin retained and a later pick could be a possibility, or maybe a 2nd/3rd for Grzelcyk retained. There's still definitely some options depending on how much more JBB is willing to part with and how creative he can get.

I honestly think JBB is not gonna let 700k sit there and not use it.
I'm expecting another move between today and tomorrow, either a bottom sixer or a 3rd pair D.
Getting M. Geekie would slap, imagine?
From
Chaffee - Paul - Goncalves
Eyssimont - Glendening - Atkinson
to
Gourde - Paul - M.Geekie

Moving Cirelli would be insane.
Oh of course it is. That's kind of the point. I have ZERO questions about our ability to grind a game to death. But we have suffered at the hands of playoff overtime enough lately. If it gets to that point, perhaps insane gets me Tage Thompson clapping a shot home instead of another Cirelli grind shift and we pray Kucherov and Guentzel have the answer.

95% odds we're gonna grind with Gourde and Bjorkstrand. Which is perfectly fine. But all we're doing is doubling down on what we're good at. We aren't good at figuring out how to dig out anything OT winner. Stuff like that is why I'd even make a suggestion about moving Cirelli

I hope they get a 3LD before the end of the TDL. In UFA for LHD that will make around or under 3 mil that are serviceable are: Dumoulin, Grzelcyk, Schmidt, Reilly, and Hanley. Not a lot on the trade market either, it would make a lot of sense to trade for Dumoulin now and extend him before UFA. If we extend Gourde at 3.5, trade Sheary, Perbix, Chaffee + picks for LHD and fill the rest of the roster with prospects we could spend 2.9 on a LHD.
Guentz-Point-Kuch
Hagel-Cirelli-Howard
Paul-Geekie-Bjork
Gage-Gourde-Huuhty

Heddy-Moser
McDonagh-Cernak
LHD(2.9mil)-Raddysh

Vasy
800k Backup (Lyon?)

Scratches:
Girg
Lilleberg

Would like to fit Duke somewhere in there, maybe for Gage if his play declines but he's looked really good lately.
