Not that it matters, but I honestly have zero interest in Seth Jones. That contract length, his declining skillset and spending assets on a player that isn't a difference maker feels like a step backwards. Unless Severson is going the other way AND there is retention (and why would the Hawks do that), I just don't see a reason to do a move like that. And I'm sure there is a case where the asset loss isn't that great, but I'd personally rather spend higher value assets on a difference maker (forward or defense).
Ah that is an interesting thought. If Severson is going the other way, I'm actually not sure I'd care at all what else is involved. Even if it was straight up (it wouldn't be), I'd totally pay an additional $3m to have Jones instead of Severson. If I think about it that way I don't mind it. If it was Jones + 2nd/3rd for Severson I'd be all over that.

That being said, I'm not sure he's a good locker room fit at this point, nor do I know how truly bad he's been lately. He's obviously not the same player he used to be and it would be kinda weird given he asked out/didn't re-sign and went to an even bigger loserville organization.

If they open up the wallet, I want them to sign Marner. I was so impressed with him in the 4 Nations. He has great vision, Voronkov and Marchenko would rack up the goals with an elite passer.

I think he would flourish here.

I honestly think, as they are right now, Severson is a better player than Jones. Not too long ago that would have been a patently absurd statement on its face, but nowadays...?

Grab Frederic assuming you can talk about a potential contract and move forward with 2 tough guys who can actually play. Would be such a pain in the ass for other teams to face in the playoffs

I thought he was absolute garbage in the 1st game against the US when we had McAvoy hitting people and the Tkachuk brothers were healthier.

Was also tough to gauge when there was next to no chemistry built yet. Lots of talented players on all teams looked pedestrian in that short tournament

Yep, was a bad game. But he scored the OT game winner in their first game, so they wouldn't have made the finals without them.

Then he set up the Cup winning goal.

I'll take that resume

I would Love Oliver Bjorkstrand and would give a first for him
We need a 3rd line wing bad IMO.
Our current 3rd line should be our 4th line
our 4th line isn't good right now.

I like Kuraly, I would rotate him and Danforth and Reese.

This would give us four deep lines! If Chinny can get healthy by the playoffs, man, we would be scary!

There were some very loose rumours of the Blue Jackets being interested in Carlo before they acquired Fabbro. As far as I understand, he hasn't looked great this year, but then again, very few Bruins have.

He has looked worse than not great. Andrew Peeke is now ahead of him in Boston, and not because Peeke has been great.

Carlo has only ever worked in systems where he gets to shovel the puck up the wall or have his D partner (Krug) do all the breakouts. He's obviously a poor fit in the Jackets system.

Unfortunately getting a big guy on the back end isn't enough, we need a high end defender who can move and play, and those guys will cost assets (unless we can sign Gavi).

Oliver Bjorkstrand Stats And News

Pretty much the perfect player type for us to acquire is a guy who can score consistently well on any line - doesn't need top unit PP time or top linemates - and adds a high end forecheck element to hem opponents in while our top liners are between shifts. That's Bjorky. I'd be happy to talk about other players like that if folks can bring them to my attention.

We have a not-so-easy calendar until the end of the season. Besides, we play in Tampa on March 4, leaving on the 3rd. March. And Cleveland plays in Toronto on March 5, so possibly reinforcements have to arrive on March 2 at the latest. We'll see what the plan is then.

By March 2:

CBJ: DAL, DET, DET

OTT: WPG, SJS
DET: ANA, MIN, CBJ, CBJ
BOS: TOR, NYI, PIT
NYR: PIT, NYI, TOR
NYI: DAL, NYR, BOS, NSH
MTL: CAR, SJS, BUF
PHI: PIT, PIT, WPG
PIT: NYR, PHI, PHI, BOS
BUF: ANA, CAR, MTL

Actually us, Detroit and the Islanders have enough games among them, if the Pens get up, Philly might pay the price. BTW, Ottawa and Montreal have the advantage in that if they lose, they won't directly strengthen the opponent in the PO battle. Which can't be said for the other teams. And the Pens will struggle, who has a captain like Crosby otherwise can't play.

So far he hasn't shown he can be a leader in the OP. Besides, Marchenko plays right wing and Evason uses Voronkov as a left wing.

The next two weeks are extremely critical and its not solely with that outdoor game. This might as well be considered make or break as everyone team we are playing is in or in the playoff race with those two games again Detroit. With Boston waiving the flag if either us or Detroit takes both games that changes the picture drastically which how close this race is going to be as we head to the deadline.

Isn’t Carlo just a tad better than Gudbranson?
He's another guy that too a point is a product of a system. Gudbranson is pretty much similar and one of the only guys that excelled in Vincent's boring ass system. I'm actually quite curious to see how Gudbranson looks under Evason's system now that everyone is up to speed with it

Hopfully he is up to speed having not been able to play the last few months. He was hurt in the season opener wasn't he so he only got training camp.

I just mean the team and the understanding of the system. He got a couple games in and will understand a bit more about how the team plays simply by watching them but yeah the player himself will probably take a bit to be 100%

I'm admittedly not the most knowledgable in hockey systems/tactics, but as I understand it Evason's system calls for a fair amount of this. seems like that's how most of their breakouts have gone – chips along the wall to the wing.

mateychuk is also good at breakouts and profiles as a krug type in short order. could definitely see a fit with brandon carlo in that kind of role.

seems like there's mutual interest in a long-term deal between gavrikov and the kings. he'd be a really nice piece here, though.

i really liked Pocke CBJ's piece on potential targets for the blue line, which included gavrikov. the key takeaways were:
  1. they need to improve rush defense (which is where severson excels)
  2. they arguably should opt to follow the contender blueprint (elite 1D on the top pair, shutdown second pair, puck mover on the third pair) but don't have true shutdown pieces yet
that piece pre-dates the seth jones chatter but frankly I can't see a great fit there. jack han pointed out some stuff a while ago with his skating while defending the rush and it doesn't appear to have gotten any better. he has some serious issues in that area. even with retention, I just don't see a great fit.

there was also a Pocke CBJ piece on forward targets, lots of the usual suspects on there (nyquist) but one guy who surprisingly stood out was tsyplakov from the islanders.

I mentioned Morgan Geekie a few pages back. Not sure how people feel about him, but nobody really said anything so I assume people aren’t fans of his? 26 yo and RFA.
Seems to me Geekie is not the kind of player the Bruins are looking to move. We are talking older guys, UFAs, etc.

He did later address the Seth Jones situation in his CBJ vs. CHI post.
He quoted Han too. My takeaway from this is that Jones projects to be a short-term improvement on Provorov, but his contract coupled with his defensive defencies means that he probably makes little sense long-term.

I liked this quote:
The single best deadline addition for the Blue Jackets would be Damon Severson actualizing his potential.
