to start… we continue to scout nashville heavily. scouting them again tonight.

The trade deadline is March 7. We have 7 games left before the deadline including a swing through Florida on March 4 and 6.

I think the scouting trips by members of our FO are much more telling - our pro scouts attend games all year nonstop.

If Monahan,Chinakov & Jenner have returned or are ready to return I see no need to go big (if at all) at the deadline. A guy like Nyquist for Minnesota's 1st maybe but I don't see him as a guy that is going to make a big difference.

The other apparent conclusion fro GMDW's commnet is that Provorov is staying with the iintent to re-sign him. Although that is not as apparent as him staying thru the TDL.

It kind of sounds like the play is to acquire a forward and hold on to those 1st round picks until the summer. There's still a handful of games left before the deadline, and I think we'll have a more clear picture in the couple of days before March 7th about who is buying and selling. I think Gus is on the board, for sure, but I think we have a bit more options than that. There's the pending UFA's that we regularly talk about (Nelson, Evans, Tanev, ...), but I think there is a much bigger pool of players that could be in the mix for us that have 1-2 years left with a little higher salary whose teams might welcome a change in their cap space picture. We could easily fit a Bjorkstrand, for example, into our cap situation for next year. Fitting a $5-6M player in to our payroll short term should not be an issue, and it might not cost many assets to give up if Don is patient.

I'm just interested in seeing whether we move on from anyone in order to make room for a little change. Conversations have centered around resigning Provorov, Olivier, and Fabbro, but I'm wondering what the plans for Kuraly, Danforth, and others are at the deadline.

I don't think there is any chance I flip a 1st for Nyquist. GMDW alsready said he's not interested in short term rentals with expiring contracts and Nyquist's age and production so far does not warrant that for me. I could be ok with a mid to low round pick possibly but we also need to stop thinking short term and keep thinking long term. DW seems to be committed to this as he should be. Jarmo would be all in for short term success and blow up his own plan at this point like he did a few times when the team exceeded expectations.

Unless Nasville is giving us their second along with Gus, that's a huge pass for me. The difference in MIN 1st and NSH 2nd could be around 10-15 spots, which could be worth it but I'd rather see what the team is like after the break and some guys return.

I'm wondering what the plans for Kuraly, Danforth, and others are at the deadline.

I've been a little disappointed with them in the last couple months. But they're still solid fourth line types. It would be nice if we can get them on 1 x 1 type contracts and maybe have them platoon the 4th line C position.

Turning them over for other 4th line caliber players doesn't help us, we like our room.

No one is. He won't cost anywhere near that.

I would add Mattias Maccelli to that list. Unless I am missing something, he seems to have fallen out of favour in Utah and he is a really interesting player. And Waddell specifically mentioned players with term.

He's been available (and likely cheap to acquire) for a while now and we haven't picked him up despite the giant hole in our lineup.

I haven't seen anything about him being available, but you might be right, I haven't followed that particular situation at all.

Pretty much where I'm at but I'm also cautious on the desire to acquire former players that have moved on.

Like an ex-girlfriend, there is a reason the relationship ended and no matter how much you might pine for them its most likely not a good idea to get back together. Maybe in is case it wasn't him it was us but I'm still cautious and I still think he'd only be around the rest this season at 35 years old.

Well, yeah, that's part of the point - he's a rental, but one we know is fairly capable and a decent leader. There's probably other options but he's one that easily comes to mind and is one we're already quite familiar with.

True. we'll see if he truly is interested in rentals despite what was said about not being interested in rentals but if he could fetch a low pick I'm down. Trade deadline just isn't one of those things where you get great deals on a contract that doesn't expire unless you act as a middle man to take salary as alluded in the Middelstadt connection.

If the Jackets are actually targeting Mittelstadt I could see him doing really well for you guys. The Avs are simply too reliant on speed, speed and more speed - they are basically playing in such a way that it suppresses his strengths and highlights his weaknesses.
