Not at all. KH is stupid if he doesn't sell at the deadline.
I hope he's as smart as I think and won't be tempted to keep the players he should be selling or even worse, waste assets on short term help because they're ''in da mix'' aka playing for .500.

He better stick to his plan and ignore the fefans and blind homers who want to make the playoffs at all costs when the team is clearly not ready to compete yet. Media will start putting pressure on him too soon, a middle of the pack record is all it will take for these vultures to start clamoring for a playoff run.

Dear top 4 pick, we will meet again...

View attachment 954201

I don't care about the tank this year. I'd rather have see this team grow up!

Anyway if we don't make the playoffs and CGY pick stay in top 16, we are going to have 2 pick in top 16, that's very good.

Demidov change everything. I always see him to be picked #2 last year lol!

+ Michael Hage, looks more than a just #21 pick, maybe going to be in top 10 re-draft!

Me too. The tank is over for me.

BUT, the Flames tank isn't. AND, I could see the Flames beating out the Canucks for the last playoff spot. I used to be affraid the Flames would finish bottom 10. Now I'm equally affraid they'll overtake Vancouver. Petterson and JT Miller need to get going!

Flames tank is where it's at!

Playoffs, or bottom of the league. Which way do we go ????
Bottom of the league.

The problem with making the playoffs is that we might do like in 2021, make the finals, draft 31st and not fire our incomptent GM and coach.

Or worse, we might win the Cup which would mask all of our problems for at least four months and badly set back a proper rebuild.

Is this post serious? Has to be a joke.

You missed the /s

I'm in the camp of those who want another top 5 pick this year, but a spot in the Finals (or a Cup!) is obviously so much better than a top pick.

If the team gets in the playoffs, it'll mean the players are ready to move on from the rebuild. If they don't, then just keep on drafting top talent!

Flames are not that far from a top 10 pick. They're just a little losing streak away.
And they might still decide to sell at the deadline.

I'd rather they make the playoffs and pick 17th. That way, they have no chance of winning the lottery.
But i don't think it'll happen.

I think they will end up in the mix, if there aren't injuries.

They are a different team with Laine and Carrier.
Agreed. Another element is goaltending. We have Dobes now but it was a whole process.

-First MSL played Primeau as a regular bona fide NHL backup. We would get spanked and the team quickly had no trust in team goaltending in general. We could get no momentum going. After a back-to-back the team was always shell shocked.
-At some point there was a switch in MSL’s head that Monty was often giving us a chance to win and Primeau rarely was. So he cut Primeau starts. Our record improved.
-Then there was a second switch. MSL had lost all confidence in Primeau. He was now always coming back to Monty. Our record improved even more. MSL had seen enough of Primeau. Yet it became an untenable situation as Monty was overused.
-And finally the club is making a legit effort to get a top backup by getting Dobes.

Calgary have been very good at home (13-4-3) mostly earlier this season, it's their road record that has been bad and they played 3 more home games than road games so far. And we don't want them to lose too much, they are only 6 points (3 more loses than wins) then the Habs who are at #10 right now. We want them to stay just an hair above .500 to make sure they don't drop under #11.

And Vancouver need an healthy Q. Hughes more than Petterson or JT Miller.

I don't know guys winning against Vegas dosen't come without heavy sacrifice
We're been through this,
It will be the shittiest january watchout & be ready.
We can be shittiest in January. It change nothing. We won't finish in the bottom 5. Every single year, we need record breaking injury to finish in the bottom. We have been a little bit lucky this year with injury. We will finish around 8-13. We can still get a good player. At this point, the only way to get a top 3 pick is by winning the lottery.

This is where you and I agree. A .500 record? Fantastic! It's the step the kids needed to take on the journey to becoming a winner. But as you said, they're not there yet. Over the long haul, this is an underdeveloped team that hasn't yet built the muscle-memory to win in the playoffs.

That said, I doubt they'll be big sellers. Evans should be re-signed and Gallagher ain't going anywhere. The rest... I don't think Hughes will cripple the team by jettisoning the effective depth guys. Maybe Armia or Anderson, but not both. I think Savard and Matheson survive until the off season.

Savard would be a UFA, so I see them trading him and then using a lesser pick to acquire a veteran D man on an expiring contract, or maybe grabbing an overpaid veteran D man with another year left, something like that.

Armia might re-sign on a cheap short term deal.. so I think at the end both Dvorak and Savard are moved; Evans is re-signed and they bring Armia back very cheap.

Savard is someone i can see Kent keeping until the end of season. He is a good vet and is helping a lot of kid in the club. I wonder if keeping him and letting him go in the summer is worth over trading him for another pick. If Kent trade Savard, why not let Struble play with Arber until the end of season?

The biggest challenge for Kent is signing Evans. If he refuse to sign and want to test the market. Kent should see what he is worth in the next trade deadline. You don't want to lose him for free.

It depends on what the return is, if Savard is only getting you a 3rd round pick, then he's probably more valuable just playing out the season being that stabilizing presence for Xhekaj. But at say a 1st round pick, that's much harder to turn down and probably worth risking the stability Xhekaj is currently helping his development.

I agreed with you. I don't Believe Savard will return a late first round pick. Not with the way he has decline. He is a good vet for the team. Not only for Xhekaj. But the whole team does love him. He has been a good mentor for our young player.
