I'll believe it when I see it. Right now if this team wants to get back in the mix, it's 5 victories in a row they need. Up to around 521.

Besides, getting vénère on opening/closing/re-opening tank threads ain't good mojo.
They should play .500 rest of way. Barring major injury

7 of the next 9 games are against very beatable teams. We don't have to sweep those 7 games, but if we are going to climb out the basement we're going to have to win at least 5 of them. The games against Washington and Winnipeg will probably prevent any 5 game winning streaks, but something like win 2 lose 1 and repeat would go along way towards building team confidence. After Chrismtas and into Janaury it gets kind of rough so even if we do look to have turned a corner we shouldn't jump the gun and declare the tank over.

If you want an honest conversation then maybe try not accusing people who disagree with you of being toxic.
I haven’t accused anyone of “being toxic”. Do you think I’m so simple I won’t notice or do you want to insult my intelligence when you misrepresent my comments?

Toxic Optimism is not a new or novel term, it’s pretty self-explanatory. Maybe you’re not familiar with the Bergevin era but a large portion of that era’s discourse can be described as such.

Laine coming back just enough to take us out of the Porter Martone sweepstakes
I felt like Hughes was waiting to see how Laine looks. Now he has a more complicated situation, does he try to get back to the mix or does he stay the course (sinking without a hope)?

Let the fefans and the local media have their hopium. The tank continues.

I'm far from being a pro-tank but i'm a realistic kind of guy, yesterday felt good at least we didn't feel out of place playing games in the NHL that's all i ask.......the Islanders are not a very good hockey club right now, and we didn't score a goal 5 on 5........so dont worry guy's your tank thread is still very much alive.

Oh and BTW being happy after a Habs win doesn't automaticaly means that you're not realistic about the future........i hate the word ''fefan'' and dislike the guy who invented it.

I pretty much agree with your post. I don't resent fans cheering for wins, we've been fed a mediocre product and continuously losing leaves a bitter taste. I just don't agree with unrealistic expectations when the rebuilding process usually takes 5+ years.

I was born after 93, so in my lifetime I've only witnessed mediocrity and flawed teams. I'd rather try the rebuild route, execute a structured plan and let the process run its course. Rebuilding is a necessary evil IMO.

The only way the environment would be toxic is if the posts were making it toxic, which means the posters are being toxic. The reason you don't want to accuse anyone specifically is because both because your argument is flimsy and by being vague you can play the victim card when challenged like you are doing right now.

Last time you went all gung ho on this whole toxic positivity being used to silence you it turned out a couple posters saying we should be patient. It's honestly laughable.

It would be nice to see more 5v5 goals if that is to happen.
Laine's input will only make up for so much.
Slaf Dach Newhook have to start producing as well.
Slaf and Dach, yes. But Newhook? What do you want him to produce? Looks like a lemon who may be getting a longer leash cause he’s a Quartexx client.

Avs dumped two suspects on Hughes and he needs to find a GM who is more gullible than he was when the Avs worked him. LeBrun reported that the Avs GM pestered Hughes for 17 consecutive days until the latter relented in what became the Lehky deal. 💀

You’re completely correct in your outlook but the question is at what point do you feel entitled to challenge the progress of the rebuild, the specific decisions made, the trajectory, and so on?

What if they only drafted LHDs — surely there would be confusion and outrage right? What’s the idea here, we’re only drafting left hand defenders, what kinda rebuild is this?

Now, do you agree that it’s better to be open minded enough to question the process even if we agree with the strategy? I question it at every turn because I’ve never seen a really good Habs team.

I don’t think the Habs, as an organization, are owed anything from the fans even if the latest management team (consisting of: unproven + failures from NY) is new. Obviously different people have different perspectives but the whole “it’s a rebuild, be quiet!!” attitude reeks of the Bergevin era a bit too much.

Listen pal, I like talking hockey. I’m sick of you guys punching at other fans — and that obviously includes when the punches are directed at me. Focus on the hockey talk and it’s all fine. Calling other fans names is pathetic and laughable.

Demanding patience and calling other fans impatient is definitely part of the toxic positivity thing that makes some conversations insufferable. Bergevin acolytes never stopped.

The Lekhy and Newhook trades are the ones I hated the most with Hughes. Turn those two trades around and we look better for it. Lekhy instead of Newhook and could still have used that 31st and 37th pick to acquire or draft someone else.

If you want to stick to hockey then stick to hockey and drop the toxic positivity nonsense. If you hadn't said that garbage in the first post I quoted then I wouldn't have responded.

You ignored the rest of my post to whine about one statement within it. I’m happy to drop the topic if I don’t see variations of “be patient and be quiet” constantly posted in response to genuine attempts to evaluate the tank and talk hockey.

Until that happens it seems inappropriate to have some fans constantly and non-stop posture like they’re superior to other fans. I’m not saying you can’t act superior, it’s a common enough tendency, I’m simply saying I’ll defend my opinion regardless.

Let’s stick to hockey. Boy that Newhook, what a great player he turned out to be.
