There is no way to know. We know he didn't want to go to Utah.

NO. the team is right where a team 2 years into a rebuild with a pile of dog shit to dispose of would be.
Haha, rebuild has serious issues. Three + yrs in and looks a lot worse than the year prior.

What other choice does this team have? Do you want them doing what hasn’t worked for them in the last 30 years +, trying to trade their way into a playoff spot and getting bounced, littering their roster with middling, aging talents?

Since this is not a destination market, premium UFA players are not a realistic option. They need to draft and develop a solid core and that’s exactly what they’re doing. I don’t like losing either but if this gets the team into repeat contention mode, it will have well been worth it.

I agree they need “to draft and develop solid core” but I don’t think the core is very good. I’m questioning the choices. Not impressed with Dach and Newhook acquisitions not am I overly impressed with their prospects.

so is this the year we finally get a franchise altering #1 pick?

Do we finally get our own McDavid/Matthews?
Nope, no such player available on offense. Schaefer is a #1 defenseman, he should be our main target. Porter Martone would change our offense, Hagens is very good but he's small, Misa isn't exactly a real center by conventional standards he's a LW/C, Frondell looks like another player in the Suzuki mold but slightly taller, that could be good too..

McDavid is a generational player. Matthews is a generational goal scorer. We're not getting a generational player in this draft.

Dach and Newhook aren't part of this core, these are the core players:

Suzuki
Caufield
Slafkovsky
Demidov
Hage
Beck
Guhle
Hutson
Mailloux
Reinbacher
Fowler
2025 1st round pick

We must remain patient.

More premium prospects are needed. Demidov fits that mold. Hoping to add another in the upcoming draft.

For me, too early to judge Dach. Not a Newhook fan so far — reminded me how they ought to stop dealing with the Avs. 💀

Don’t know if I’d include Mailloux in the core yet. I’d put him in the second group of good players who I think will contribute.

Dach, Mailloux, Roy, Beck… these guys may or may not pan out but have the potential to be Solid contributors.

Ah I forgot Beck, I would put him in our core, he's a sure-fire 3rd line center IMO. I'm gonna edit that. Mailloux I'm pretty high on because of his offensive instincts. Agreed on Dach and Roy, possibly Newhook too he's still young. Also Heineman is starting to impress, if he keeps this up I'm gonna have to add him to my mock core.

I forgot Hage!! He's a core piece imo
