That Edmonton win was great but this team showed for like the first time they can play 60min in like 20 games.

I still think that with normal injuries and the pace we are right now we are easily bottom 10

That's the thing about progress...

During the first 18 games there were definitely positive signs, despite all the doom and gloom.

Some mocked MSL's comments, but they were spot on.

Getting a full 60 min is a welcome flagpost, but there's still a long way to go for that to translate into consistency over weeks & months. Doubt we see that this season, but for the guys in the room, knowing that they are on track is important.

Yup, we're 3 pts from a playoff spot, too. There are a lot of bad / mediocre teams.
Between injuries, fatigue and puck luck it is hard to hold a good rythm for 82 games. Just look at FLA two years ago, barely making it to the playoffs only to make it to the finals.

I think you can do a lot of good things and have a bad season. Look at Laine or Dach last season being injured, bad things happen. But you can t tolerate bad effort and poor coaching if you want your team to develop.

That would be insane for Chicago , the best C prospect in his draft year , followed by the best D prospect in his draft , Followed by the best wing prospect in the draft back to back to back , surely the hockey gods don't let it happen

Chicago is currently 32nd. I think they're getting another top 3 pick. They're getting one of Misa, Martone, Schaefer or Hagens.

Man reading this board you'd think Laine is McDavid or something instead of a project no other team wanted. Not only he's not gonna materially change anything on this team, he'll most likely actively hurt the team until he gets back to form which might take 20+ games.

Still think he talks too much, and if we're being honest they played only 2 good games in a row and one of them was against Columbus, so as far as i'm concern i'm gonna wait a little bit before saying that they're back on track......patience being the key word ya know

He will not hurt the team. He is probably better than any other 2nd line possibility even at 50%.

Thing is, they were never really "off track". The time horizon reference point of patience is the issue... If you expected them to be a playoff team this year, then sure, we'd be "off track".

A few key players were hurt, a few young players had a tough start, but despite that, they're roughly were most pundits and fans expected them to be this year (just outside playoff spot) through 1/4 of the season.

I expected them to be in the playoff mix and just get in IF things went very well on the injury front. No such luck with Laine & RB out long term before opening night & Guhle & Slaf missing time and playing through issues in the early going.

If we stay mostly healthy and Laine finds a decent level relatively quickly, we could we'll stay within striking distance of a WC spot.

Off the tracks for me would be a steep regression of most of our core U25 group and/or the young group quitting on the coach... Neither seem likely.

Future is bright 😎

This thread was open on November 9th after the lost against Toronto
Since then the Habs are 3-1-0

So what do we do?
Close the thread to not jinx the tank or leave it open to get back in the mix ?

We already in da mix

E4FD377F-3A18-4A38-A346-AD23CB96FFBD.jpeg

3pts behind 3rd in the division. Win next game and we’re 1pt behind the last wild card spot.

Right now, we’re in all kind of mixes. In da mix for the playoffs and in da mix for 1st OV at the draft. Covering all bases.

I'm gonna give you one big truth: You don't need to be McDavid to improve the quality of this shit roster ;p

Laine doesn’t need to be McDavid, all
Habs need is for Laine to do two things:

- help the team actually have a 2nd line that can contribute some offensive zone possession time resulting in some actual offensive output vs 0 presently

- and turn an already improved PP, to being even more of a threat w Hutson / Laine combo on 2nd unit for starters
