I agree but I don't like saying it too loud because it's a hard pill to swallow

Simply still no game breakers that's just how things are. Demidov is a good bet, but you know, impress me kid, show me what you got. Hutson has a chance to turn into a good thing too, but same deal
I really like our pieces but there’s a lot of question marks.

I usually keep it positive on here but I have concerns for sure: Guhle’s injuries and slight frame that he seems determined to not build on. Reinbacher’s injuries. Mailloux’s D. Caufield’s all around game 5 on 5 especially. Laine’s injuries. Dach’s injuries (people need to give him more time). Xhekaj maturing and settling in.

Team speed could be an issue even if everything goes right.

But with that I still think we have a ton of tradeable assets. Demidov and Hutson are unproven sure but both are as talented as it gets and you couldn’t ask more from their early returns. And it’s not like the ‘outer core’ that immediately surrounds them are a bunch of bums.

We have plenty of raw material and we can still attain more.

not sure many are saying we wouldn't have him, just pointing out you can't have 3 uninterested star players like him on a team and expect to win a cup.
I’m definitely saying I wouldn’t have Nostrils lol. That weirdo can get effed. I’d take Cube head on my team in a heartbeat though

Looking at how others rebuilt has value and I guess gives us the length of time these things may take and how we stand up against other ls and such. But I guess to me we need to look at what we have in players as the key.

As a basic skeleton and foundation we need a 1C, 2C, 1D, 2D, 3D and starting goalie.

I believe we have a 1C, 2D and 3D.

Dach may be our 2C but not so far. No immediate panic as the guy missed a year and he lost his top winger because of injury. Still we ate on the clock with Dach. I think if he doesn't prove himself as a 2C this year we need to start looking hard.

Forward wise we have 1st line wingers in Caufield , Slaf and I'm thinking Demidov. So we need one more and that could be Laine or even Dach. Missing a 2C is huge but otherwise looking pretty good. Possible we will need a bigger guy on the top 6 in size and play.

Big loss with Reinbacher. Was hoping to get a read on him and obviously a year of development. Hutson is blowing me away, and he and Guhle are 2 and 3 guys for sure, but don't see either claiming no.1D right now. Do we have a no.1D ? Matheson has the spot by default but no idea when it gets filled, its a big hole

Starting goalie ? Frig man WTH.

Bottom 6 forwards has potential with guys like Heineman, Beck, Florian X and L Tuch coming up. We have guys like Evans ( UFA ) Gallagher and Anderson around for now. Questions on Newhook.

On D after the top 3 we have some quantity and bit of quality so no worries.

So where we are in the rebuild depends a lot on the 2C , 1D roles an goalie. We fill We fill couple of those then we can compete but not be serious contenders. After that we need young cheap players to mostly fill out Spotswood can chip in so we avoid the Toronto disaster. We need a team identity, like big , fast, skilled and physical would be good lol.

We have lots of assets. Pretty good shape.

But how long to get those missing pieces ? Maybe we pull a huge trade to speed it up. And we need to get battle tested. Some guys look good, do they still look good post season ?

There is no way to know if HuGo really believed they were in the mix. And whether they would have even said it if they knew Laine was going to be gone for 2 months.

So you believe that they publicly announced to the world that they expected to be in the mix for a playoff spot without believing it?

So they made the announcement for 's*its and giggles' and see the chaos it would cause if the season went down the tubes?

He’s a deadly sniper , for entertainment alone it would be nice. Goals are nice for the money paying fans

The defense is terrible but I'd still pick Hagens or Martone

Some are beggin' for Hagens, others are setting the tone for Martone.

I like both Schaefer and Martone, but my current preference is for the D-man. I have yet to watch Hagens this season. Last time I've watched Hagens was at the U18s this past spring. We'll see how the draft shakes out, there is a lot of hockey to be played.

We sure gonna be patient if all he brings are Barron,Newhook and Dach to finish the rebuild

Side questing to keep things interesting while waiting for Bergevins contracts to expire.

Pittsburgh tank coming in hot. They’re already sewing McKenna’s name on the back of jerseys as we speak but they might challenge for last place as soon as this year. They tie us for the lead league in negative goal differential as well despite Malkin and Crosby producing.

I think we need Martone. The team is just soft as a baby's ass, and we need a little sandpaper both up-front and on the back-end.

We are missing those types of players. We have reasonable skill-guys in our system, but we're missing the size and toughness to carry us through the playoffs.

Yes, that's right, I've gone full MOAR BIGGER.

Mwahahahahaha.

Hughes preaching patience yet again and not willing to compromise his long term goal — which I take it to mean that no immediate, impactful help will be coming in the short term, via the trade route.

As he should, no point in paying anything valuable for short term fixes, this year is all about transition and growth.

I disagree I don't think what he said has anything to do with tanking. If it happens so be it, he'll gladly take the high draft pick, but I think he fully expects more from his team as constructed.. Season is long, this team has a lot of runway to get better.

And they will.

You can all enjoy your tank thread and hope they bottom out, but don't be surprised when they turn it around and kill those dreams of another top 5 pick.

This team is not about tanking, who knows, maybe it's possible they struggle all year and end up there, (I doubt it) but it's certainly not their intention.

Progress isn’t linear… If there any positive is that all these young guy walking around being the king of the city kinda got knock down a peg and understand they will have to work for it that much more.
With Laine coming back, Demidov coming next year, 2 1st this year, +will open up minimum of 8M$ of cap space will should take a bigger step next year.

Is that what they'll learn if no changes are made and there is little accountability between the players and between hockey ops and the roster?

I'm genuinely wondering...

I was super disappointed with the off-season. I feel like they could’ve done more to insulate the young players with more veterans and they should’ve been able to see the problem with running this current roster. They made a splash on Laine but we knew the risks with that trade. It still may work out. Overall, I think this is a fixable situation. It’s just going to likely be another long year. But it should be an off-season to look forward too.
