Not sure if we do that. That will require us taking talent away from Laval and a AHL playoff run is something our organization values very much.

Gorton/Hughes are not blinded by their long game and they know what you see. They just can't make panic moves.

I said it before and will say it again, this team is not going on any deep playoff run until Suzuki is 27/28 ish. By then, Demidov and Hage are age 21 ish and most others are in the middle of Suzuki and Demidov/Hage. This is our window.. Suzuki to Demidov/Hage with all the others in the middle.
In their window, there is no place for Dvorak, Anderson, Savard, Matheson or even Evans (but maybe). Who we have in Laval is not enough but we have few guys to fill some spots. Hughes can trade or sign proper vets who will do their job, not some slow or lazy bums. Laine is not too old but he's lazy and doesn't care at all on the defensive game. Now on PP they place a guy always close to him and it becomes a 4 on 3. It was so predictable.

Top 5 is quite strong this year. Not sure there's a generational talent in the lot but pretty high quality.

I do like the top 7 or 8 and especially the top 5. I agree there. Should still be able to get something from 15-20 but then I think the chances at getting a top 6F or top 4D or starting goalie is slim. More slim than the average draft.

I was hoping Desnoyers would keep flying under he radar since he's french canadian but he's going up in the list every month sadly.

Hughes MUST trade for proper vets. I don't see any other choice if they want to start progressing.

Also, not sure what is people's issue with Yoel. Like what do you expect the 4th liner to do... score 50 goals and be PPG? The dude is an outstanding PK'er, chips in with a goal on occasion, cannot be moved off the puck... his puck control in general better than 75% of the team. Same goes for Evans. You know what these guys are... they are useful guys. Keep them. Team needs goal scorers, and high IQ players. And some f***ing toughness up front, FFS!!!!

Laine would be fine if he had an actual 2C to play with. Newhook should be on the 3rd line and I cringe when fans pencil him as a 3C solution.

Dvorak and Savard are toast. They still work hard but easily replaceable. I would not be appose to having them both back but as spare parts. I rather them sitting and watching games vs someone like Beck, Roy, or Kapanen. They need to play games and decent min's.

Armia and Evans are good assets. I'm sure we get lots of phone calls about them. My gut says Gorton/Hughes are delaying any Evans extension until they know what is offered at the TDL.

Anderson is a good asset as well. I also can see teams calling. This is someone that is undervalued by our fans.

I'm personally not worried about it. I hope we move up the standings fast but it keeps coming back to the overall picture... We are doing nothing until Suzuki is age 27/28 and Demidov/Hage are 21+

I want Laval to go on a deep run. I value that than adding more 3rd rounders for Dvorak and Savard.

In a typical draft, he might have slipped. But I just don't see it in this draft. Probably the most well rounded center?

Dubois was the one we should have acquired. Cheap to acquire and he fit behind Suzuki. Signed long term and we already knew the cap was rising. Kings playing him 3C min's didn't fool me one bit and most of you guys know how much I wanted to add Dubois.

Age 26 today and signed until age 33. 6'-3" and 218 lbs and a solid skater. What were we afraid of again? Oh yeah, I forgot, the popular internet bandwagon party

That’s four years in a row without playoffs

Which is to be expected, not condemned.

and at this point, it’s hard to see when that’s going to change. We have most of our core already playing with the team.

That's a complete fallacy. We have half a core and plenty of prime talent coming in. The team in 2-3 years from now will look completely different. It's not just Demidov. It's Hage, Engstrom, Reinbacher, Beck, Kapanen, Mailloux, Florian, Tuch, Fowler and whoever we draft this year. We have Heineman and Guhle missing. In all likelyhood, we will draft much higher than 11th with Guhle's absence. Players from our initial rebuild draft will turn just 21 years old soon.

People need to hold off panic mode. The problem is not the rebuild, but the irrealistic expectations put upon the rebuild.

5-7 years and 5 is if everything goes perfectly.

It does seem like there is a pretty notable drop off in talent after the first 4 or 5 in this draft, and I think it is very unlikely that we fall that far in the standings that would allow us to take one of those players. I think we'll likely land in the 6th-10th range, and it would be nice for that Calgary pick to be as close to 11 as possible too, but it'll probably be closer to 20.

Selling at the TDL makes sense. We need to find a way to keep Evans for C depth, but Dvorak, Armia and Savard should probably be traded and the spots that are opened up can be used to get our younger guys some minutes to see more about what we have in them going into next season. We might need to address a need or two through free agency if we can't fill those spots from within yet.

With one of our 1st's, I'd really like to see us pick a decently-skilled player that plays with some jam and competitive spirit like Martin, Bear or Spence. Someone that's hard to play against and can give us a projectable lift to our middle six.

With the other pick, I think we need to look hard again at taking a RHD because of our organizational depth and uncertainty there.

I still would like to understand what the f***ing plan is and when is it supposed to get better according to the said plan? Just tell us... like 2027? 2028? If teams sells again, we'll be left with even more green rookies next season which can only mean one thing - no mix, no playoffs, another hard to watch season.

If you actually listened to Gorton and Hughes, all your questions have been answered, except for the years.

A rebuild team is supposed to have a lot of green. It takes time.

The team isn’t in a position to be dumping vets to make room, there isn’t anyone being blocked just now. Dvorak won’t be signed, but they will be better with Armia, Evans, and Savard next year.

I can understand jettisoning a player or two because the team really needs a top 5 pick. Seems to me the guy would be Savard. He’s moving down the depth chart, he probably has some value, and he’s aging out. The habs will need to sign him again or replace him if they don’t want to be bad next year. Savard looks bad when he’s forced to play too many tough minutes but the team doesn’t win many games without him.

It’s iffy to tank in any case. A fifth pick would be better this year than some other years, but, with the lottery, I wouldn’t be surprised if the habs pick 8-10 even with dumping a player. It’s likely to be another year where they fall one pick too low, and the board has to hope for other teams to whiff, like with Demidov.

After the loss last night, I think it’s likely that Evans could be on the move.

Said it a few times today... I think Gorton/Hughes are delaying the contract extension until they get all the offers for Evans from now till TDL. It's smart to do so.

Agreed. We lost 5 in a row and you know what that means... Sell, Sell, Sell, narratives. Our fan base is way to gullible at the high and low points of the rollercoaster ride.

This is still very much a fluid situation. I have high confidence Gorton and Hughes will manage this well.

I have a feeling Evans will be staying, unless he really wants to go.

I can't imagine HuGo are looking to the next season with Suzuki as our only reliable NHL center.

Dach (-27 mostly at C, terrible at draws) might just be better on the wing, and Newhook is probably better on the wing too if he even sticks with us. Neither of these players have shown they can play the two way game that is generally needed at C (unless they have elite offensive skill, but they don't).

Kapanen and Beck still have to prove their ability at the NHL level. All other prospects need more time.

So we'd probably have to find two centers in the offseason if we let Evans go. The last couple of times we tried to find centers, we found Newhook and Dach.

Evans gives us some stability in our depth chart and I don't think it breaks the bank, especially considering the planned cap progression. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush here.
