How to F U your future despite being a bad team for more than a decade and amassing a buckletload of Top-10 picks 101:

#1 Owen Powers
#1 Dahlin
#2 Eichel
#2 Reinhart

Still not close to competing.
If Buffalo draft Matthew Schaefer first overall. Do they become the first team to draft 3 defenseman first overall? #Dahlin #Powers #Schaefer

When I look at the schedule, I'd like to think this could be the start of a very long losing streak but you never know with this team. :dunno:

Here's hoping!

I think if Buffalo gets a top 4 pick, they’re shipping that in a package for Pettersson.

Big thing is how and why you are winning. We're winning because of our veterans are playing well. And honestly aside from Hutson and Heinemen, our youngsters have been underwhelming.

3 years later, Suzuki and Caufield are still the top 2 scorer, Armia/Dvorak/Gallagher/Anderson/Evans are still 5 of your bottom 6 forwards.

This team still looks too much to Bergevin's for me to really be thrilled (6 of the top 10 scorer are Bergevin era players).
Why would you expect otherwise though? Bergevin’s been gone only theee years. Most of the players we’ve drafted are t even with the team yet. Slaf and Hutson are from 2022 and they’re only 20 years old…

Moreover, Caufield was on his way to busting under Ducharme. Bergevin may have drafted him but he’s developed almost entirely under the new regime.

I doubt Schaefer will go 1st. He's got good hands and skating, but he puts himself in vulnerable positions far too often, and now he's missing the rest of the season? It won't be him.

For all of Bergevin 's failings, at least Gorton and Hughes walked into a decent situation.

I would just like to point out that Bergevin wanted Cody Glass, not Nick Suzuki.

By proxy, he fell ass backwards into a net positive trade. Without Suzuki, this team would be worse than Chicago.

We need to tank for six more seasons, and trade Suzuki and Caufield for futures before their contracts need renewing, otherwise we'll just be stuck in mediocrity for another 45 years. We can't afford to emotionally cling to guys who will not be there when we are finally ready to compete.

What in the world am i reading? :baghead:

We really should be trying to help out the Canucks if the opportunity presents itself. We need them to hold off the Flames, so the Calgary pick is still a lottery pick.

That's not a valid critique in my opinion. Because if you apply it in this case you have to apply it to all trades, it's probably very frequent.

Also, a second choice still shows judgment, as dies the decision to trade Pacioretty for futures.

At that particular junction I think Pacioretty wanted out as much as we wanted to trade him. I don’t think it was some revelatory genius from Bergevin.

Except that he’d just signed Price for ten million dollars…

There was no plan. Carey Price was the only plan this guy had.

Bridge Subban. Then a year later, pay him huge money. Then trade him away…

MB inherited a strong up and coming team and promptly turned it into a rebuild project. It is with every fibre of my being that I hope he gets a GM job in Toronto or Boston. That would be absolutely wonderful.

Bergevin left a decent starting position for Hughes and Gorton, we can acknowledge that reality without relitigating all of his decisions.
