Chicago is currently 32nd. I think they're getting another top 3 pick. They're getting one of Misa, Martone, Schaefer or Hagens.
I could be wrong. But I feel like Chicago main target is Martone. They already drafted a #1 D last year. They also have multiple small forward. Martone and Misa are probably Chicago main target.

They want the big power forward to play with Bedard.

Yup, we're 3 pts from a playoff spot, too. There are a lot of bad / mediocre teams.
I disagree, IMO we’re witnessing a changing of the guard , perennial “contenders” TBay, Boston, Make Beliefs, Avs, VGK are not as dominant with salary cap restrictions kicking in, as they once were and many bottom dwellers over last 5-years have had an uptick as their prospect pool has started to enter & mature in the NHL… causing a parity effect

Which is why we’re seeing this…
You also don't have ''very bad'' team this year. We Finished like 25 + pts above San Jose last year.

By this time every season you see 2-3 teams that are solid double digits out of a wildcard spot (12+ pts), there isn’t a single one thus far

Indeed I was talking kind of referring to their ability to tank with impunity.
They out tanked us while having a better roster.
They seems stucks in a similar loser culture as Sens and Buffalo are.

We should start to see the separation in the next few weeks.

They do? You spoke to them?

We're still playing pretty bad hockey, but it's better than it was a couple weeks ago. Things are fairly tight in the standings, but I feel we will still ultimately be falling to the bottom.

Maybe Laine coming back soon will change things for the better, but I still think it would be incredible if we could land a prospect like Misa or Martone. It would add another transformational element to our offense, in addition to Demidov.

If we don't end up bottom 4 this year I'll be disappointed. I hate being that bad but we need the pick.

Guess you missed the memo and haven't been following the team in recent drafts...
Yeah but we'll see if everything works in 3 or 4 years. Right now one of the biggest piece of our rebuilt is the 2c : Dach. He hasn't found his game yet, he have all the PP time he could have and he doesn't work hard enough. Evans is better than him in this moment. Evans is our best 2c in this moment.

I mean, no 2c, no chance to win a SC. If Dach doesn't do the job, what happen next? A big trade to get one? Who will be sacrificed to get a real 2c? This year will tell if Dach is the answer long term at 2c.

Yeah, I can definitely see them targets Martone, too. We'll see how the season plays out.

The team defense went from dead last in the league to mid-league in the span of 3 weeks after fixing a bunch of problems. If they keep that up, they won't finish bottom 5 this season.

i'm starting to question how good Hagens is.. looks stale. Martone is starting to remind of of WHL Dach :( I hope all these kids turn it around because we need some legit talent to get here.

Great talents are next season, McKenna leading the way.

This draft year does not have a elite first overall pick like Celebrini or Bedard. We have a race with 4 players for the first overall pick. SO I hope Kent and his team do heavy research. Habs fans won't accept another bottom 5.

I hope 2025 is the last year we draft in the top 5.

Dach never came close to dominate the WHL like Martone is dominating the OHL atm.

Sure, but they've had 6 straight top 10 drafts... We've had 3, and quite arguably we've got a better and deeper pool of U24 talent (as that article suggests).

It's not an indictment of our drafting & development process that we currently have roster holes & U24 players that haven't yet solidified them... That critique should be towards the ~20M tied up in 4 vet forwards that are bottom 6 contributors. Could have easily found a 2C & top 4 RD with that cap room if not for bargain bin's legacy...

It'll be another 3-5yrs before we can definitively speak to the success of the 2022-23-24 draft classes...

But so far, so great with 2 of the top 10 players (& perhaps the top 2 before it's all said and done) from 2022 in Slaf/Hudson

5 players that look to be locks to become NHL regulars (Demidov, Beck, RB, Fowler, Hage)

And another 3-5 with very promising early trajectories towards NHL status given their play in pro leagues (Engstrom, Mesar, FloX, Rohrer, Kony, Davidson)

If even 1/2 of those 12 actually pan out as NHL regulars, as their early post draft trajectory suggests, that's a damn impressive draft success.

No. Theyve been rebuilding for double the amount of time as we have.
Yeah but before we were retooling. Snake Boivert in a podcast said the best time for the Habs to rebuilt should have been in 2008 or 2009. But the timing was the 100th aniversary of the Habs and rebuilts were not popular at the time. I don't care much how much time they've been rebuilding, like the Sabres or any bottom team like Yotes or Red Wings. Some teams could draft early forever and never built a winning team, like Buffalo. Sometimes only 3 good core players are necessary for a proper rebuilt, ex Penguins, Kings or Black Hawks. As long as a team win the jackpot with one player nobody saw coming like Kucherov, Kopitar, Bergeron, Marchand and Pastrnak. Habs did that with Caufield and Hutson, well, maybe, I wouldn't compare them to Kucherov and Pastrnak but my point is a team needs to score with deeper picks once in a while.
