OT: Official Sports Media Thread XII: Alice Cook won't let ALS stop her from running the Boston Marathon

I decided to listen to Toucher & Hardy for the first time in maybe 6 months, just to see if there was anything interesting coming out of the AFC Championship Game. Instead, the first 15-20 minutes of the show was Fred talking about softcore porn and what he used to do watching Rue McClanahan on the Golden Girls when he was 12.

He's just a complete parody of himself. At some point, doesn't Beasley Media get embarrassed by any of this and pull the plug?

I thought it was interesting last Monday morning(I think?) When Felger/Mazz/Murray filled in for them.
 
Dick Button, whose passionate and often tart commentary on figure skating competitions became a television staple over six decades and made him the sport’s unofficial spokesperson, died Thursday in North Salem, N.Y. He was 95.

His death was confirmed by his son, Edward.


 
Let's pause to honor an individual whom, I gather, was a good person and superlative ambassador for his sport.

I watched him for years when ABC was THE network for figure skating. Very smart, very honest in both praise & criticism. He would explain the jumps, spins, scoring etc. so even someone who knew zip about the sport could understand. I certainly wouldn't know as much as I do about the sport without his commentary.

My favorite combination was him & Peggy Fleming. Each brought a unique perspective, both knew the pressure that came with winning the gold medal (Button did it twice!) and both passionately loved their sport.

May he rest in peace.

Comparing the incomparable professionalism of the Button/Fleming combo with today's Tara Lipinsky and Johnny Weir shows just how much the Olympics has changed (and I like Tara's commentary).

Button/Fleming were the gold standard no doubt about that.

They rule. Incredibly insightful and entertaining. What's the problem? You don't like how he dresses?
