Oh well, not the end of the world. So the question is when will the home opener be? Hoping it's on the 20th as per NYRFAN218's feeling. Would be nice. Could be a night game as Monday is a holiday.

It would be really tight with the Knicks game. What if it went to OT? The earliest the Rangers game could be would be 8:00 IMO.

Knick game is on Monday the 21st. The Garden is empty all day Sunday. It would definitely be a night game if it is that Sunday. Don't think the NHL would schedule an afternoon game after a road game the night before.

Sorry about that, I misread you I thought you said the 21st. I really hope it's not Sunday though, the last thing I want to do is travel to NYC on a Sunday (when I can just go straight from work during the week:laugh:)

21st is MLK day. I agree Sunday 20th would make the most sense assuming they can find an opponent. Original schedule had us playing the Bs on the 22nd. 21st can still work if they move the Knicks up to say 12:30. I don't think it's a nationally televised game. Looks like it could be a 3 games in 4 nights start either way.

Would have thought opening night would be rivalry games. Pitt/Phi, Mtl/Tor Van/LA etc. Figured we would go against Devs or Isles.

It'll be O6 and rivalries. NBC loves PHI-PIT. It's a great rivalry. It'll most likely be in the opening night schedule.

This was updated and it now states that unconfirmed sources say Rangers-Pens on the Sunday for the MSG opener. Possibly a Sunday NBC/ NBC Network game? They would not have it on during the afternoon with the Championship games on, but maybe earlier? Could they do a 12pm NBC game? Both MSG and NBC on my FiOS guide have the timeslots from 12-3 on NBC and 12:30-3:30 on MSG as TBA. Would they have that quick of a turnaround for the teams after playing the night before in other cities?

I know the schedule will be compressed, but would they try and attempt this when there are the big football games on before? Could they steal rating with nothing on? That's what NBC/NHL would want to do. I wouldn't rule it out at this point.

Can't be a noon game with the teams playing the night before. Perhaps a 6pm start, but I don't see any earlier than that being a possibility.

Things is this: The football games start at 3pm and 6:30pm EST. Putting the Rangers-Pens or any hockey game for that matter on national TV would have to be done during the day. It's possible this is done locally at night, but NBC would want to milk the Crosby factor IMO. It is possible to do it too. It has been done even when the season is not compressed. Pitt goes to Philly to open. Rangers go to Boston. Short trips both ways. Flight/train take a little over an hour. Wouldn't be that big of a stretch IMO.

Have teams ever played a day game the day after a night game? Just don't see it happening. It's a terrible idea...how pissed would we be if Gaborik got injured having to play his second game of the season after less than a day's rest? I'd be shocked if they scheduled something like that.

Not a good idea playing a 12:00 game due to risk of injury. Maybe they will move the football times to accomadate the hockey fans:sarcasm:

I think there's some sort of hourly limit on the closest that two games can be to each other. I really don't thin that a 7PM game one day and a 12PM game the next is a good idea...at all.

Also, I'm already getting sick of these little schedule leaks. Just give us the schedule!

The Quest for Lord Stanley's Cup

If one team will benefit most from a shortened season it certainly is the Rangers. Torts pushes the boys very hard, and sustaining a high level of intensity for 82 games is extremely difficult. Now he can push hard for 48 games and the boys should be at their peak by the time the playoffs start. In other words, if I were a betting man my money would be on the Rangers to win the cup this year.

Back to what was said before, if we get the Isles 5 times you can bet 3 will be at Nassau, the league will do anything to get an extra sellout. Not that those games are legit road games, anyway...

8:1 odds. Place your bet.

But wouldn't the league make more money by selling out MSG instead? Piles tickets cost $20 or something.

They could maybe play at MSG on the 21st. Knicks play at 3:30. Figure the game ends at 6. Tight squeeze. Could they remove the basketball court for a 7:30 puck drop?

No, that would not be possible.

If the Knicks play at noon, the Rangers typically don't play until 7.

I've gotten to the building at 4:30pm after a Knicks game ended at 2:30, and they were still picking up the insulation under the basketball court. Usually, they're wrapped up with the switchover by 5:30 -- They usually need three hours for the switchover before the gates open. That gives them a 30-minute buffer before the gates open, and a 60-minute buffer before the pregame warmups begin at 6:30.

As for the possible Penguins game on the 20th, I don't have that confirmed, but I'd think it would be at night. NBCSN usually does a Sunday night game, so you'd think Pens/Rangers (if that's the game) would be the NBCSN game. They do have a timeslot in their schedule listed at "TBD" for Sunday Jan. 20 from 7pm - 10pm.
