Actually, it only says 57 will all but guarentee 8th place. Honestly, 56 is very close to being a sure thing as well (97.4% - which would be like rolling anything but a 1 on a 40 sided die). You can go all the way down to 53 points and still have better than a 50-50 shot according to their site. 54 points is 3/4's of a chance.

Hell, that site has Buffalo with more of a chance to make the playoffs at 52 points than missing it with 54.

Ok so if we go 17-8-0, 16-7-2 or 15-6-4 etc. we have a 75% chance of making it? Really isn't that unreasonable. By no means is it easy, or likely but definitely something to cheer for

Every point being handed out is in conference. Add to that all of the 3 point games and it's a much smaller chance than years past and those years were a small chance to begin with.

The East is fairly pathetic this year though so who knows. A few teams that piled on points early in the year overachieved in my opinion.

3 wins in a row allow us 1 loss. Do that for the rest of the season and we're making the playoffs, regardless what the other teams are doing.

We're still have it in our own hands.

Another potential break for the Sabres playoff hopes.

Stephen Weiss is done for the year in Florida.

I don't think Florida was ever a threat for the playoffs. If anything, that hurts those who hoped to finish with the worst record in the conference. Florida is well on their way.

Weiss out simply cements yet another stud prospect for the Panthers. Theodore being out probably does too, so Weiss probably gives them the best shot at #1 overall.

So is mathematically being alive going to cause Regier to not attempt to maximize value on Leopold (and maybe Regehr)? Or will he do what he did with Gaustad and hope the kids can elevate themselves enough to keep in contention so he can use injuries or the lockout or Mercury retrograde as his summer excuse to keep his job? Again?

Hurts their chances if anything. We needed Florida to steal points from the teams ahead of us and this makes it less likely.

A MacKinnon-Bjugstad-Shore center corps should give them some hope going forward.

It's the same thing around here year after year after year.

This team feels the heat, they win a game or two and everyone's cheering again. Then it's back to loserville. Same Regier pattern repeating itself.

I was proud of the fans booing that coach into unemployment.

Anything but a serious cup run is totally unacceptable.

If you cheer runs to 9th place, you're part of the problem.

Your assertion has an assumption.

No one is cheering a run to 9th place.
