Dorsett had a fair amount of PK time in Columbus, I believe. He could be an option on a second unit with Moore.

Nash MIGHT be an option for the PK..

This, unfortunately, is another reason why Powe may be pulled up at some point. he is a solid PKer

Tambellini has the most skill, and is very underweight. Needs another 20-30 lbs of muscle on him before he can do anything useful on the ice with his body. (Side note, his hockey brain works, and works well... I'm pretty sure his physical body can't keep up yet)

If Kreider is going to play 1LW he's going to have to show us a hell of a lot more than he did last season. I'd try him out there to start the season, since we'll be missing hagelin's speed.

1 They worked well together at times this year, Stepan's passing gets better every year and Hags is strong behind the net. Rick Nash is Rick Nash. This line will score.
2. I feel Zuc needs Callahan on the oposite wing. He adds just the right amount of grit and defense, in addition to his ability to get the "ugly" goals. Zuc should be able to get the puc to Cally in front of the net or to Rich for a shot. Should be a highs scoring line too.
3. Brass and Kreids seemd to have some chemistry. Not 100% sure about this one as both wingers are best as LW, but they should be fine.
4. One of the best fourth lines of hockey

Right now there is a bit of a logjam on the offensive side of things. I'm going to assume the following players will be in the starting lineup from the get-go, regardless of their preseason and training camp performance.

...with Lindberg, Miller, Boyle, Hrivik, Fast, Kristo, and Pyatt fighting it out for the last spots. I'd let the young guys stick around in Hartford for a while; and bring up a hot hand only if you need to.

CALLAHAN+HAGELIN can't be the only puck possesion beasts(tsn words) there is a need for another speedster to step up.
They've already missed out on Dvorak/Stalberg ...but Kristo looks legit and DOBBERSHOCKEY has HRIVIK as a strong possibility to start the opening roster...Time will tell.

Blueline needs major work on the Right Side....They lose Gilroy...but can still get Sanguinetti/Blum or trade for #1 overall disappointment E.Johnson. He's every bit as good as McDonagh without the size mismatches that occassionally occur and he's only 3.7m cap hit for next few seasons. NYR have the cap space problems because they overpay middling talent or alienate guys and pay top rate(lundqvist was looking for 5mill and then after arbitration used LUONGO as a comparable to stick it to Sather and now the team is stuck dumping salary in Lundqvists final year of his contract.....Coincidence --no team has won under the cap era with a $5million+ goalie yet....it won't happen anytime soon unless somebody makes big trades or has injuries to keep them under the cap midseason.
NYR HAVE both their captain and top skater in Callahan injured to start and Hagelin+MDZ needing time to heal as well which could lower the cap hit slightly ....TAKE advantage and load up this season the way that Pittsburgh did last season. The weakness there was a weak blueline which NYR doesn't really have. They have great Left shooting blueliners with only 1 legit top guy on the right side in Girardi.
TRADE for a legitimate speedskating Right shooting defender or sign a UFA.

Stralman plays the right side. It's only him and Girardi that play there. Stralman can pinch in and play top-4 minutes when required. I wouldn't be trading him.

Two scoring lines, an energy line (the second line, that is, the third line will be a sheltered offensive line), and a shutdown line. I like the way the roster is shaping up, any of these lines could chip in a goal at any given time.

I like these lines. Except I'd maybe switch Cally and Zucc.

I really like your guys signing of Pouliot. He never panned out as a 1st line 30 goal scorer like everyone expected, but he's still a solid player who can score 15 goals and knows how to use his size even if he isn't the most physical player. The Devils have been signing former high first round picks who never reached their full potential, but have still become solid 3rd and 4th line players for a while now. Pouliot can become your guys version of our Bernier. I actually wish we signed Pouliot instead of Olesz, oh well.

That's quite accurate. I most likely see Callahan as a fixture on the 2A or 2B lines depending on the opponent. His grit, heart, and compete level would make him one of the best third line checking forwards in the NHL but his goal-scoring abilities allow him to assume second line duties. If you're looking for an analog, Mike Keane would be a good comparison.

This also brings me to Carl Hagelin. He has great wheels and compete level, an asset on the forecheck. The biggest question is: does he have first line abilities to score consistently? Sure he had his moments playing with Richards and Gaborik during the 2012 playoffs, but his ceiling is not too high to be a first line regular. Signing Benoit Pouliot could prove to be beneficial to Hagelin as it may very well enable him to maximize his skating and hustle on both ends of the puck, since Pouliot has first line skill - albeit inconsistently - so he gets pegged down to the second line. Which is why Hagelin could thrive on the third line (think of him as a faster version of Jan Erixon or Niklas Sundstrom... possibly Bob Gainey if you're stretching the comparisons)

Hagelin and Cally are on LTIR the first month or so. Meaning Asham and/or Powe easily fit into the lineup capwise until they return. When they return there will be have to be some roster movement, probably not before then though. There is also the possibility of someone surprising in camp - ie Lindberg, Hrivik, Fast, Hrivik, Mashinter, Big Mac... Will be interesting to watch

A lot of interchangeable players on line combinations. Not too sure whether that is a good sign not having a solid 1st line combo or whether we are developing three lines that have a better ability to score than in years past. One thing I can see is that we will have a changing rotation of line combo's as AV gets a handle on evaluating the available personnel.
