Post-Game Talk: Official Kings (2) vs Soilers (3) Series talk

Your team won the first one vs the Soilers. Congrats. Danault (a former Habs) scored 2 goals.
It's been 4 years Habs are missing that kind of center and it shows. Any LAK fan wants to trade Danault for Christian Dvorak? Dvo is younger, he wins faceoffs and can be signed for cheap. You don't want him? Ok I understand, I was just asking, lol.

Harmonicas better be back for game 2.

I’d prefer George over both and I’m not joking. He’s technically better than the pair of them, just unlikely physically ready.
Indeed . But goalies are insane.
Think of all of the goalies that were ruined by rushing them. If I trust our org-an-eye-zation with one thing, it's goalies.

George is kinda between a rock and a hard place. Too good for the O and too young for the A. I would imagine he gets a long look in the preseason and possibly 9 games if he EXCELS but then goes back

I'd imagine the current plan, if he is healthy, is for Portillo to be the backup next year

Oh, I agree completely. Even if they thought he were the best backup available I wouldn’t want him rushed. It has to be about the long game, with goalies especially. I was mostly pointing out my lack of confidence in the backup options.

No for a plethora of reasons.

Most importantly I don't see a moustache here

Second most important. He is clearly a ging and we are at our limit there

We also need Phil for a potential emergency. At any time Bowser could kidnap Princess Peach and with Phil, we essentially have Luigi ready to go

If they're going to loadup McDrai especially they need to keep Kopitar away, yeah.

It made sense when it was McDavid and draisaitl on their own lines but if they're loaded up that's too much speed for Kopitar and too much defending for Kuzmenko.

I don't even particularly like Danault out there because of physical tools but at least he has massive help with Moore and Foegele and the stats showed the Kings' best players vs. McDavid in particular were Gavrikov, Edmundson, and moore foegele danault.

Similar on draisaitl, thought it looks like the Kings didn't have much of a deployment 'strategy' against him.

Could have been score effects but the Oilers made absolute mincemeat of their lines, trying to get something going maybe, but I really feel like the only matchup that needs hard pursuing is McDavid and keep the 4th away from Leon.

None of the centers are going to matchup with McDavid, to much speed and IQ. Kopitar may still get clowned physically like he did on Goal 1 last night, but they all are, and at least with Kopitar (and Kempe) they are almost always going to make the right defensive read. Do you trust Byfield, Fiala and Laf to make the right reads? Knowing a wrong one has a good chance of ending up in the back of the net.

All these people coming up with ideas to slow him down, it's been tried by everyone and nobody in the league has any answers. I was to young to remember Gretzky's stone-prime, but the only person I can compare him to was when I was living in Pittsburgh in the mid 90's and saw Lemieux, people tried everything but they never had any answers, that is where we are with McDavid, and if something works for a short period of time, he adjusts as great players do. The way to beat those Pens teams is similar to this Oilers team, you just had to exploit the Pens on the other side of the ice, and I think the Oilers are very much like that, as we saw last night.

The first period of tomorrows game is going to be very telling, if the Kings come out like they did last night and attack the Oilers and generate chances on Skinner they should win the game and take-control of the series, if they try and come up with way #87657 to try and stop McDavid defensively and that results in taking the air out of the ball they are going to lose, because that team is going to get their goals.

This teams organizational philosophy has been defense-defense-defense, and the results vs. this team have been horrible, lets hope they don't try and go into the shell again tomorrow like they have so many times over the years vs this team (including the final 20 minutes last night).

I was talking about specifically when they move to Draistailt AND McDavid, not the individual matchups. But yes, I would trust that matchup as well. Kempe has to do the physical lifting for Kopitar, and Kuz is every bit as lost as Fiala, so...you may recall earlier in the year Byfield absolutely blackholed McDavid.

I'm 100% with you that the right play isnt trying to defend it anyway...just considering how to at least neutralize McDrai since the other 3 lines should 'win.'

Luckily we are at the point when it's just mostly a tradeoff anyway since all three lines are productive.

Kopitar being ‘clowned’ while McD is holding his stick - sure bud.

That was way less blatant holding the stick than the play by Byfield that everyone was rightfully gaga over (myself included).

But I assume with your consistent unbiased takes, we can find you saying the QB goal vs. Seattle wasn't impressive because he "cheated", right?

Connor McDavid has 40 points in 19 games vs. the Kings in the playoffs, but yeah, shame on me for saying he has clowned the Kings.

I mean it was blatant, but like the Byfield play, when I said they would never call that, they didn't here. And I'm not even mad about that.

Now about the flagrant board on Laf, the two cross checks on coverage by Perry, the most blatant trip of all time by Perry, the several dives including stick holds...hope the refs are watching the video because there was a long time when the Oilers were DARING the refs to call penalties that affected possession and scoring and they just woudn't. I want the whistles put away but when a penalty affects possession in an oddman/advantageous way or directly leads to a goal they kind of have to blow it and it seems like they only didn't because of score effects.

That being said--be stronger in front of the net. You know what Perry is going to do, you have to beat him there, establish position, and get ready to get muddy. Really unacceptable for the Hyman and Janmark goals just getting outright beat to the net and for the perry goal with Edmundson supermanning no matter how good the McDavid passes were

Oilers-Kings was the least-watched series opener with 323,000 on ESPN2 Monday night, down 11% from Game 1 between the same two teams in the same window last year (362K).
I know a lot of people that cut their cable. And if you dont have cable they make it harder to watch on apps. Instead of using Hulu or Amazon its on a thing called Fubo and Max Sports that used to be included with normal Max. Its all so crazy.
That on top of some people probably fed up with where the game is going as far as reffing based on game management is adding up.
