Post-Game Talk: Official Kings (2) vs Soilers (3) Series talk

The only teams that have been able to beat Edmonton in the playoffs have been the SC winning teams:

2024 - Panthers (SC Finals)
2023 - Golden Knights (2nd Round)
2022 - Avalanche (WC Finals)

You've literally had to be the best team in the league to beat them.

I think that puts it into perspective.

Kings winning the cup confirmed. If we beat Edmonton lol. That would be quite the story.

Something like this would be funny for California reffing

Every betting site ive looked at so far has EDM as slight favorites... seems about right. Playoffs are a whole different animal where coaching/adjustments really come into play.. Knob and his staff put out a much more aggressive PK last post season (after being 25th / 80% during regular season) and finished at about 94% for the playoffs.. thats quite the gold star coaching move... while LA didnt do shit to adjust. The main difference this season is goaltending which is decidedly in the Kings favor. Balance that all out and its a toss up series slight edge to EDM.

I think the Kings have a reasonable chance. Much better than previous years. But if McDavid and Draisaitl are healthy the odds should definitely favor Edmonton.

I wouldnt put it past them to exaggerate their injuries to get extra rest.. they may have some dings and dents, but im certain they will be very effective.. they know they only get so many swings while in their prime and they'll be going all out.

McDavid has looked great recently when I've watched him. He looks 100%

But I speculate Draisaitl isn't full healthy. He was injured, came back, re-injured again. That's never a good sign. I could be wrong. Pure speculation.

I would be all for that but I practically guarantee we'd be 'asked nicely' to remove those lol

we had the "LA needs hollywood in the playoffs" ones, that was great
"Relegation Tour 2025" since these guys should be relegated to the A if they lose to the same team four years in a row.

What would actually be decent is a take on Broad Street Bullies since the Edmonton fans seem to think that this historically soft team under Blake is full of dirty players. Someone workshop it:

"Figueroa Street Fancies"
"Pico Blvd. p***yes"
"Chick Hearn Ct. Cucks"

Have one slide be the tag line transposed over the Lady Byng Trophy, next slide is pick a player with the picture being them smiling and looking soft with their lame nickname transposed over it...you know, whatever "add a y or an ie" that player has. Third slide is the 2025 playoff logo with some sort of slogan "Play Nice!", "No Roughhousing!", etc.

Forwards: Advantage Oilers
Defense: Advantage Kings (By a LARGE margin in my opinion)
Goaltending: Advantage Kings (Also by a LARGE margin)
Special Teams: Advantage Oilers*
* Without Ekholm, the Oilers PK should be worse than usual and the Kings PP has been much better since adding the KuzMONSTER

It's really even. There are things you can point to for the Kings that you can use to make an argument they're clearly the better team. But then you have 29 and 97 suiting up for the Oilers which kind of just throws a huge wrench in everything.

I do think the Kings finally take them out this year though. I know many others are saying the same and that optimism makes me uneasy given the last 3 years, but I think the difference between the two teams is too clear at the moment. Oilers got older, slower, and smaller from last year to this year (AND they're coming into the playoffs already banged up) - Meanwhile the Kings got younger, faster, and bigger.

I have the Kings taking this series in 5 or 6 games. These guys are going to be extra motivated - It's insanely rare in professional sports for a team to lose to the same opponent 4 (!!!) years in a row. Connor and Leon are going to be hard to stop but the Kings team defense is PHENOMENAL and now they finally have an excellent goaltender to anchor their defense.

And they should have enough firepower on offense - Byfield is a different player this year and should be a HUGE factor. Fiala, Laf, Kempe, Kuzmenko, Kopi, Clarke, Foegele, etc - These guys will be able to chip in and pot some goals.

It feels weird being this optimistic heading into a series against an opponent who's eliminated your team 3 years in a row - but I genuinely really believe in this group. The locker room feels incredibly close (and strong) and you can tell this is a team that genuinely really believes they can beat anyone and that they're never out of a game. Regardless, pumped for some playoff hockey soon

For anyone who's interested there's a discussion of the Nurse suspension.

In context Jeannot got a 3 game suspension for this which was during play.

With Nurse's history, and the NHL admitting that the score was a factor, I cannot understand how they didn't give that donkey more than a game when they implied that this was purely to injure. After the whistle too.
