A lot of overreaction happening, but sure, lets give the new kid a hard time of this, right?

I'm a little pissed off. The team has advertised three different spellings. I now have a misspelled jersey, despite following the team's official releases.

I'm not annoyed with TS for wanting his name done correctly; it's far more likely that this was a mistake from the Senators.

With the news that the team is now changing Stutzle's name presentation, I've followed up with OTS to see what options jersey owners have. I'm not expecting much but will report back to see what's going on.

I'm assuming you purchased your STUETZLE jersey elsewhere?

Nope. Purchased through OTS. Like you said, I'm annoyed that the team itself sent out communications with STUETZLE as the given name. I absolutely think it should be the German spelling and am pleased that's the route that they are going but this has now left us in a sh*tty state of affairs.

I live in the Toronto area. I still haven't gotten a response back from OTS, but I cannot imagine a scenario where I'm going to be able to have my jersey altered to the correct spelling without needing to pay an extra fee and/or pay for the shipping myself.

The organization and the NHL should have known better. This should have been handled and made definitive before they were ever even allowed to make the sale.

It's because he chose that himself, then he changed his mind. What are they going to do about that?

I spent $350 on a jersey. Like I said, I am not expecting much of anything but if you don't think consumers aren't going to be annoyed about this timeline after dropping bills on this, you're out to lunch.

Not even going to touch on the fact that your statement is boldly wrong and that it was never "his choice" to go with Stuetzle.

The tweet from the Senators did mention to email OTS, so I would imagine that you're probably ok. I'm likely out of luck, as I didn't purchase through OTS.

I have a difficult time understanding why people are confused as to why this is upsetting. In case some weren't aware:

1) The Senators advertised the purchase of "88 STUETZLE" jerseys
2) The Senators released a statement saying "He has decided." in reference to "18 STUETZLE"
3) The Senators released a statement saying that the jerseys would now be spelled STÜTZLE"

Imagine being someone who purchased an "88 STUETZLE" jersey who now has had to have it changed twice. And does anyone think that this is TS's fault? It's likely a product of the Sens tripping over themselves to sell jerseys before hammering out the details. I know that a lot of this is silly on the surface, but we are dealing with purchases in the hundreds of dollars.

OttawaTeamShop.ca has added Timmy's jersey with the new spelling. $299 instead of $249 like Tkachuk and Chabot's. Umlauts must cost $50, wow.

I didn't mean it that way. I fully expect them to change nameplates free of charge. I agree not offering that would be disappointing.

They literally said he chose Stuetzle a few months ago, now he changed his mind. How is that boldly wrong? Why don't you read this before trying to say somebody else is wrong.

"Fault" would suggest he did something wrong, which isn't the case. He simply picked a different spelling now. And yes I totally agree that they should switch names free of charge.

I should've been more clear. It was more of a rhetorical question as in, "Does anyone actually think that this was his fault?"

When I tweeted my disappointment to the Sens, I was bombarded with, "His name isn't for your entertainment" and, "He can change it to whatever he wants/whenever he wants."

Again, I'm not putting any "blame" on TS, rather, I'm trying to highlight how this is the Sens' gaffe.

Well he did wear STUETZLE in training camp, so you can always just keep the jersey and say that it's a rare jersey from his training camp days. Maybe it will have some value a few years down the road.

How is it their Gaffe? TS changed his mind. Why would the club push him one way or another? I don't an team cares how a player spells their name. seriously

People were chomping at the bit to get the jerseys, I saw people post on social media when he threw the jersey on during the draft. What do you expect Ottawa to do? If he asked for 88, and then changed his mind, you want Sens front office to throw him under the bus and have fans be pissed at him? Sens have done changes in the past when guys have swapped numbers, guess it reinforces on where to buy from? I don't mean that sarcastically. If you bought it from a local spot, couldn't hurt to reach out to them and see if they want your business again or not.

I can't imagine why Stutzle would want to spell his name with the "e" unless it was suggested to him that it is still grammatically correct.

Again, I'm trying to conceive of a reason why he would choose to do so, when it's clearly in the best interest of the organization to not use a special character.

I'm in that group of people that were advised that he "had decided" and thus I'm a bit miffed myself.

The e-mail has gone out yesterday, (I didn't buy it but I did receive it as a gift and the purchaser was the one who sent the e-mail).

I'll let you know how the Sens Store responds.

So far, no response.

I didn't purchase my jersey from OTS (I'm not in Ontario and the shipping prices are exorbitant) and emailed the team about what could be done. Received a reply this morning saying that they are prioritizing customers that purchased their jerseys from the team, and to reach out to the store I purchased it from.

Update on the Stuetzle vs. Stutzle situation:

The individual who gave me the jersey, and who followed-up via e-mail to the Sens Store received a Return Xpresspost Mail Pouch in the mail addressed to the Sens Sports Store.

No instructions. He is assuming he is to send it back in the pouch.

It's possible a response e-mail and the pouch aren't in sync, or they're just sending out pouches.

Still, he e-mailed Tuesday evening and received the pouch today so that's a pretty good turnaround time.

So this email arrived:

Hello,

We shipped you a return bag with a pre-paid Canada Post label in the bag.

Canada Post tracking number: Xxx

Please put the jersey in the bag with the label on top and drop off at any Canada Post outlet at you earliest convenience. Please note the 16-digit tracking number on your return bag.

Our decoration company will remove the name bar and apply a new name bar with the German spelling of Tim’s last name – Stützle. You will receive an email with a Canada Post tracking number once your jersey is completed.

Thanks,

OTS Team
