Not necessarily. If MB signs a goalie to a deal that goes to 2017-2018, we can expose that player.

Actually, no - we have to protect Price, so meeting exposure requirements by exposing him isn't possible. So we either sign or trade for someone else, or we are in trouble with the league, but no scenario with us exposing Price is possible.

There was some uncertainty about Zach Bogosian, but we mostly thought his NMC was not in effect so not all that unexpected I guess

Yeah I'm kinda confused. It seems like Nash, Phaneuf, and Kessel all retained their NMC after being traded but Bogosian didn't. Was his not a NMC?

If Ken Holland weren't in denial about his veteran talent and about the fate of his team, then he'd be able to offer 1 forward spot and 1 D spot for safe-keeping to a team in need.

There is no reason to protect more defenseman than Green or Sproul. There is no reason to protect more forwards than Zetterberg, Nielsen, Nyquist, Tatar, Athanasiou, and Mantha.

Take anyone else. I dare you.

Rangers will tell Girardi to waive or be bought out - maybe he even retires, he has been beat to hell over his career.

The answer is simple and has been discussed on the forums more times then I can remember.

Players who have an NMC or NTC in effect at the time of a trade retain those same NMC/NTC with their new team, even if the player waives the NMC/NTC to be traded. Nash, Phaneuf, Kessel.

Players who have an NMC or NTC scheduled to take effect in their contract in a future season have those NMC/NTC voided by default if they are traded before the close goes into effect. Unless the acquiring team notifies the league/PA/player in writing that the team is honoring the future NMC/NTC. It was expected that Buffalo wouldn't honor Bogosian's future clause after the trade and is now confirmed. Likewise, Winnipeg almost certainly didn't accept Tyler Myers' future NMC/NTC in the trade for Bogosian.

Yes, though I think some fans might be overly optimistic why such and such NMC player would happily waive to be exposed in the expansion draft.

I think Scott Hartnell is the only one who has publicly made it known that he is willing to waive.

Maybe because they're team players and know or think they wouldn't be selected. Like David Clarkson, they wouldn't select him with that contract so allow his team to protect another asset.

Yeah, those "team players" like MAF who would happily waive his NMC and risk being almost certainly selected by the new expansion team instead of staying with Crosby, Malkin, and the defending Stanley Cup Champions. Everyone else is just being selfish by not being willing to uproot their families and entire lives on the gamble (pun intended) that Vegas would rather take some lesser known or possibly better player, instead of taking the veteran leadership and needed cap hit of someone who had earned a NMC in the first place.

I see people worry about exposure requirements, but it seems like a non-issue because of how easy it is to solve. Couldn't you guys just sign Montoya to a 1 year extension anytime between now and when the protection lists have to be submitted?

Maybe a player like Montoya plays slight hardball and gets a few extra 100k as a result, but I doubt a backup goalie is gonna refuse a 1 way extension because there's a minimal chance they might be selected by Vegas.

Players with less than 3 pro years are exempt and don't need to be protected. But I think that doesn't mean that MTL can't expose a goalie under contract with only 1 pro year experience. I think this rule was made to protect teams youth, while the requriements for exposed goalies are not games played.
