Official Earthquake Thread

It amazes me that rest of ring of fire has been so active while West Coast of US has been spared

To me its only a matter of time until Cascadia , Hayward , San Andreas , etc faults start acting up and the big one finally comes

Also got the New Madrid overdue here in Midwest

A whole bunch of small (3 and under) quakes on those.

Or a double whammy with a big quake on one causing the other to go.

In the U.S., initial tsunami waves arrived in the Hawaiian Islands, with a magnitude of 3 feet measured at Hilo and 2.2 feet in Kahului, Maui. A 2-3 inch rise was also measured at Honolulu.

A tide gauge at Santa Monica, California, measured the initial tsunami wave early Thursday morning, with a fluctuation of about one foot in less than 15 minutes, according to the National Weather Service in Oxnard.


Hearing that Kauai, Hawaii had a "mere" 4 foot wave from Tsunami.



But major impact from tsunami may come to French Polynesia and Tahiti.
