Land of #1 Overall Picks
I completely understand / understood that you have the option of owning / paying off from the beginning. It was irrelevant to what my points were about paying off 50% and trading in every year.
I personally have never insured my phone. I have never broken a screen or caused enough damage to where insurance would have been useful. The $ I have saved without paying insurance for years would more than cover if I were to break my phone anytime soon by now.
Resale's not 50% at all unless you just want to get rid of it, don't care or there is something wrong with the device. I think you are just trying to justify not putting in the effort of selling your own device. The ones I am looking at in good condition with no blemishes are selling at 75-80% of their value from retail when they were brand new. Heck even ATT, Best Buy, Verizon and Sprint will give you close to 50% of the value on trade in if you own the device. So really, that's another blow to being on one of those pay forever and never own a phone programs. It's completely pointless for someone like me to do that.
Like I said in the beginning, different strokes for different folks. What you do works for you and I get why some people do it - it's convenient and sounds like a good deal, but it makes no sense for me since I would be losing money doing one of those programs. Like I said above... I have spent about $500 over the past 4 years on all of the latest and greatest iPhones and I have owned each one of them. Where as someone on those programs has spent over $1,750 after paying 50% and trading in and didn't own a single one of them.
How do you figure you're getting 75-80% on Ebay for a year old phone with a new one out within $100 of that price. I just don't buy it. I just checked and 7's are going for $400 but their new in the box. What would I get for my used one then? If I buy it out and sell, after fees I'm in the red. It makes no sense. Not putting effort? What other effort do you put in listing your phone on Ebay...lol. I post pics, details ect. and even paid to have it listed before other items. Still never got close to 75%
You're either an Ebay genius or boosting your sales numbers to prove a point. I know there are other with experience selling iPhones posting in here. I would love to hear your feedback. In all my years of selling them, using multiple sites and options it was never close to what you're saying other than the time where there was high demand over seas.
People are not idiots, if there was a large variance they would all buy them out and resell them . You can get my exact phone from Apple at $549 new. It's not a ton of wiggle room for profit on Ebay
Insurance is only good when you use it. I have used mine twice and it saved me over 1K. One was a defect in the phone mic just out of warranty. Apple wouldn't cover it. The insurance is like $100 per year..... The X is like $1,100 to replace. I think I'm going to insure it.
