my prediction of the top 8 less than 2 weeks out from the draft:

1. NYI - Schaefer
2. SJ - Misa
3. CHI - Frondell
4. UTA - Desnoyers
5. NAS - Hagens
6. PHI - O'Brien
7. BOS - Martin
8. SEA - Martone

Biggest wild card is Utah - think their decision is Desnoyers and Martin. Really hope the take Martin so Philly doesn't even have the option.

Zero f***ing way Martone falls out of the top 6 and definitely won't be taken behind Martin.

Some thoughts on the NHL Draft and the Flyers

I’d be happy with any of the following players at #6 OA: Hagens, Desnoyers, Martone, Frondell, O’Brien, and of course Misa and Schaefer. I have a lot of time for Jackson Smith, Carter Bear, and Brady Martin, but not at 6. I could be happy with Roger McQueen, but do have some reservations about taking him at #6.

If Martone is the pick at #6, then I would really hope they could grab Cole Reschny or Braeden Cootes at 22. They obviously need more centers in the system, so if they pick Martone at #6, they almost have to grab a center at 22 despite the adage that you draft BPA all of the time (in the first round at least) and prevailing thoughts here that you are drafting for the future and today’s needs don’t really play into the present draft. I think teams are going to address present system issues and so center is a high priority, and I agree with that. Cootes or Reschny could easily be argued as BPA at 22.

I could see the Flyers passing on Martone and taking O’Brien if it comes down to that and I would be ok with that, but I think Martone is the way I would go with that choice.

All of that said, I hope Martone (and hopefully Martin) goes before the Flyers pick, leaving a center as the only choice for them. All of Hagens, Desnoyers, and Frondell are excellent and would be good fits with the Flyers. My preference is Desnoyers as I really love his game and think he is a winner. That being said, Hagens will probably be the top scorer of those three throughout their careers, but Desnoyers may be the better all-around player. Frondell’s shot, physicality and defensive play are all excellent as well. I think Hagens has the most skill, and Desnoyers is the smartest and maybe the most competitive player of the three. I love all three (and Martone).

With the 22 and 31-2 picks, I would love a trade up to land a Roger McQueen, Carter Bear, or Jackson Smith, Kayshawn Aitcheson kind of player. Otherwise, players like Reschny, Cootes, Zonnen (maybe at 32), Nesbitt, Potter, and Kindel . At 32 Ryker Lee and Alexander Zharovsky would be good high ceiling skill players.

In the second round, I want some really big aggressive players like Nestrasil, Horcoff, Vansagi and on the defense end, Jacob Rombach, David Bedkowski (both of whom I really want), Peyton Kettles and any of the players listed in the first round who slide to the early second (Lee and Zharovsky are the most likely).

Anyway, that is kind of where I am right now.

I keep a spreadsheet of rankings from various sources (21 of them) and the following is a ranking based on the average ranking from all 21. This is the top 62:

Hey @Appleyard whats the word on Alexander Zharovsky? While a RW, seems to be one of the most skilled Russians this year. Seems to be talked about in early to mid 2nd. If we aren’t trading our 2nds he seems to be one you easily take A shot on

If the Flyers were able to trade up into the 11-15 range from 22, which draftees would you be okay in a trade up for?

It's statements like these that cause mass hysteria on draft day but if you actually paid attention it wouldn't.

Read all the draft insiders. They say sure, Martone could go still top 6 but there's an equal chance he's doesn't. Martones stock has cooled compared to some of the others in the top of the class.

That's terrifying
No idea how Dvorsky has progressed since the draft, but after watching a lot of Hagens, one thing that stood out to me is how similar Leonard is to Tippett in terms of getting the puck and then making poor decisions with it — often not using his teammates (tunnel vision is a good way to describe it). That said, Leonard is likely still a better player overall than Tippett. He’s more physical, plays with a higher motor, and seems to have a stronger two-way game.

Not sure where Potter goes in this draft, but he is the guy i would target in the early teens if you want to take a shot at a true gamebreaker. Some elite traits to work with and someone who actually has the chance to be a difference maker.
