Official 2025 NHL DRAFT Thread

The thing with Frondell is he looks like a guy who would be hard to take off the puck with speed. I don’t know what his possession stats are in Sweden, but the fact that he looks like that against men is promising. He doesn’t have all the moves, but everything about his game looks like it translates easily with his big shot. He will go through you not around you and he will make smart passes that aren’t flashy. Dude is sturdy for a 17 year old.

Doing a piece on Frondell, deep dive for PHLY...

and the more into the piece I get the more I think he will be able to play C in the NHL.

He just exclusively plays in the middle of the ice when he has the puck, even from wing. He instinctively goes to the deep fwd spot in the DZ... you can just tell he was a kid who grew up playing C since when he laced up skates.

Yeh, he is shoot first. But Mathews and Draisaitl are and two of the best Cs in the league.
More and more, I don’t think Frondell makes it to 6, but I would be thrilled if he was our pick.

Desnoyers had a very good Memorial Cup. From what I’ve been reading/hearing he’s probably a top five pick now. Martone’s scoring ability makes him one was well. He’s probably the best offensive player in this draft. That leaves either Hagens or Frondell there for the Flyers. My preference has always been Frondell but if it ends up being Hagens, I’ll be fine with that. Just hope that Flahr does try to out wit the room by heading in a different direction.

If Martone goes in the top 5, we’ll get one of Hagens, Frondell, or Desnoyers. I have a hard time seeing all 3 of Chicago, Utah, and Nashville passing on him. He’s a big guy with high offensive upside and arguably the 3rd or 4th best prospect in this draft.

I think we’ll know right away who the Flyers are picking as soon as Nashville picks it’s just impossible to say who it will be now as picks 3-5 can go in many ways.

The scariest scenario to me is if Hagens, Frondell, and Desnoyers are off the board and it’s between Martone and the O’Brien tier. I know the Flyers desperately need centers but Martone is one of 4 blue chip prospects in this draft, with a high floor and a high ceiling. He would be too good to pass over IMO but who knows what the Flyers think. O’Brien may turn into a great player but he’s a scary pick with high boom/bust potential. A “healthy” McQueen would be nice and throw a wrinkle into the draft
If they leave Martone to 6, the Flyers will take him. The Ontario scouts hold a lot of clout and they will know all about Martone.

Yeah I doubt he makes it. I would have been cool with him at #4 so if he is there at #6 that's perfect but my guess is Nashville grabs him if he is there. He seems like he fits the mold for them.

I'm just so f***ing afraid of them taking Brady when he 100% doesn't deserve to be picked at 6. The Flyers media need to f***ing lay off thinking they should get him. Lay off engaging with the brain dead f*** knobs who think physicality is everything.

I feel like Nashville wants someone like Hagens, or maybe even Martone.

There has been a lot of smoke with Chicago and Frondell but I’ve also seen Martone and Desnoyers mentioned

Utah seems to have Desnoyers mocked to them a lot but Martone seems like the type of player they’d like

This draft can go any which way and it wouldn’t shock me if Frondell made it to the Flyers. I think there is a better chance of that than Hagens

Do you think if the Flyers have Hagens ranked below Desnoyers — after reports a year ago saying they dreamed about Hagens this class — they’d put a few skill points into self-awareness and the limits of their prognosticating powers? No? Me neither.

@Magua tell me who the Canucks should draft

ty

I’ve delegated those responsibilities to MJL.

I personally think any of Hagens, Frondell or Martone will be a great result. If someone told me to start the season they would draft one of those three I would have bitten their arm off... and all three for sure have a pathway to being a good 1st liner.

Desnoyers would be "fine I guess" for me.

Desnoyers is the same mode of thinking that led to York. Grossly overestimating above average players, without standout traits. Not the player’s fault — they’re fine, drafted accordingly. I haven’t learned a thing about York I didn’t know since I watched him play a single game for the NTDP. He was never ever the high ceiling dynamic player Flahr thought. Isn’t this just the center version, with a couple inches added? I just struggle to see what they’re seeing. Unless…..

It’s the unifying theme for the Flyers: overestimating talent levels (usually at positions of “need”). And then underestimating the talent of the obvious pick (supposedly not at positions of “need”).

As far as high floor/mid ceiling goes, Frondell has more standout traits than Desnoyers. Doesn’t really matter to me if he ends up at wing or center. I think what I think about Bear. But if the consensus top 4 isn’t there, I know who’s my favorite of the next group.

Which Defenseman does he mean?
