Official 2025 NHL DRAFT Thread

The NHL is going to have to do some changes in regards to NCAA players and their rights. They either extend it a year after college or they are going to have to work out an arrangement with the NCAA similar to Jrs.
It was always kind of dumb it wasn't just a flat 4 years post draft for everyone.

Michigan State looked at the state of the football program and went, “Yeah, basketball and hockey for less money sounds good.” I get it. I watched some of those games too.
Aidan Chiles had a lot of hype.

Oh the money is here already?

I don’t know how you look at the history of college football and basketball and do anything but assume the majority of CHL stars are headed to US colleges. The bagmen won’t be from the SEC this time, but the process is the same.

There are going to be people who think the traditional system can hold. Look at college football real closely before you make that argument. It’s all a cash grab. Even the traditional Bowl games. They just hid it a little better.

It sounds with Penn State that Terry Pegula is essentially behind their NIL spending efforts which makes sense at this point given he dropped like $100M how many years ago to upstart the program.

I wonder what the going rate is for a top hockey player? We kind of have an idea for football & basketball. I’m thinking like maybe over a $100K for the top guys? An AHL salary on a ELC could be like over $80K on a max deal. Signing bonuses are about over $90K. I’m guessing these are the type of numbers you’re gonna have beat or come close to if you’re an NCAA program?

Luke Misa apparently turned down an NHL contract from Calgary to go to Penn State. So I’m thinking they would have had to compensate him for that potential lost signing bonus for next year?

I did some digging today because this is such a big story. The rumor was that Hagens got 250k and Penn St offered slightly more than that for Martone.

It’s just pocket change to these people. I know I don’t have to tell you where schools get the money for coaching buyouts and how much more than an entire hockey budget they can be.

No team sees stardom in bland, bang average at best, players like the Flyers under Flahr. Yearly.

He also said the “only” question with Martin is whether he can play center or not lol.

My issue is similar. My question is whether he can play hockey or not.

Prospect Sam Bennett might skate circles around Brady Martin for 60 straight minutes then beat the wheels off him.

Bennett and Martin is a LOL comparison. Superstar Tier 1 Desnoyers could easily fall short of Bennett. But I care about deadhead’s well-researched prospect opinions more than Chaz’s.

Yeah it’s kinda funny. Bennett had a case as the best player in that draft during his draft year and fell, in part…because he couldn’t do a pull up at the combine.

He kinda failed into the player he is today.

Only way I see Desnoyers working out on a cup winning Flyers team is if we also tank and get 1OA next year. Then even if the process is wrong, it still works out really well as Desnoyers likely being a strong 2C and Jett a strong 3C. Now you’re a 1D or a few 2D away from being good enough. So much to do…

Can't remember the last prospect you didn't like this much lol.

Tried the FC Hockey mock:

6 - Martone (Hagens, Desnoyers, Frondell were 3-5)
22 - Bear
31 - Murtagh
36 - Ryabkin
40 - Schmidt
45 - Bruzstewicz
48 - Ivankovic

Seemed reasonable on a quick stats review. I've only ever seen at least one full game from Bruzstewicz and Ivankovic.

Murtagh was picked solely for being "too old for this shit". His profile is not that impressive.

Watching YouTube "tape," Frondell reminds me of Eric Staal. He looks powerful as a skater with an incredible release. He looks like a number 1 center to me who will get even better with age. Feels like he will only get bigger and stronger. Other person I am thinking of is Gabriel Landeskog coming out. He's a no-brainer at 6 if he's available, but I am not sure he makes it past Nashville. There are going to be some curious scenarios. I would be happy with either Hagens or Frondell based off the stuff I have watched. I am not really hyped about McQueen and I haven't even dug into his back issues.
