Official 2025 NHL DRAFT Thread

Brady Martin gives me Jake Virtanen flashbacks...except he is no where near the skater (offsets it a bit at least by going to "the paint", Jake was a perimeter floater). That skating looks painful. He gets stuck in first gear a lot. Hard to see him being a center with that lack of pace. I will literally throw up if he is the pick.

I don't want McQueen at 6 because of the obvious red flags, but he is twice the talent.

He knocks the puck forward on his forehand when he’s handling it. He has the hands of forward Justin Braun. It gobsmacks me more than the diarrhea skating even. You see a lot of bad skaters, but I don’t know if I’ve ever seen hands like this for a player ranked this highly.

Then there’s the first instinct to shoot garbage, or second instinct panic sauce it into traffic. I also notice he plays 25 minutes every game. Not that he’s a good scorer, but it’s inflated. Home run bust potential. I cannot wait to see who picks him. Boston?

We are not out of the woods on this one my friend

I think we are. But the idea of Martin as a Flyer excites me in a nihilistic sort of way. “Michkov and Martin.”

It depends who is left for us at 6....but you present an intriguing offer....there are some that say Hage is likely better then anyone at 6......
That's just not true. Anyone of Hagens, Desnoyers, Frondell, Martine or O'Brien project substantially better than Hage.

I like Hage but his offensive stats are misleading when you actually watch him closer - scores his points in a very junior level way that often angers coaches with how he plays

Fair enough.....I am happy getting Hagens or Desnoyers or Frondell.

The Briere segment is last.

My high school French is not up to the task of making a strong determination. It sure sounds like a complete nothing from what I can tell, though. He basically says they’ll consider everything.

Just listened to it - it's very safe and nothing new in terms of what Briere says.

They've got 7 draft picks in the first 2 rounds; they've received calls and they are exploring everything. They could move up, move back, or make all the picks. Montreal has not called.

Ended up clicking on another video from RDS and they mention the Flyers picking up Cayden Primeau - either through trade or offer sheet (below $1.5M which would not require any compensation, and that the Habs may not want to bother matching because it's too high for their current plans).

Mention maybe Primeau is part of a deal with the Flyers to get the #6 overall. The other guy pushes back and says he doubts the Flyers would even accept both of Montreal's 1st rounders for the #6, and adding Primeau probably doesn't tip the scale.

Secretly... I think I would be happiest with Hagens and 2nd happiest with O'Brien. However, that does not mean I would be unhappy with Desnoyer or Frondell. I like all 4. All 4 are good and will be solid NHLers. I'm not totally sure why, but I just find myself believing in the Hagens and O'Brien most. Maybe I prefer their play styles/skillsets. Maybe it is just a gut feeling. Either way I find myself most willing to bet on the upside of those 2

For those who like mock draft simulators, FC Hockey's is updated with correct picks now. Whether I choose their list or a 'consensus' I get to pick Martone at 6, so I do so gladly.

FC Hockey

They have Cullen Potter ranked 9th. Despite him being a ginger, I know some guys on here like him, so I experimented with picking him at 6 - I was able to get Bear at 22 and Ryabkin with Edmonton's pick. I wish they'd let us go two full rounds to see how the second plays out. (It's not an exact science, obviously, but it gives you a picture of who is generally ranked where.)

You can do that at FC Hockey. After selecting the Flyers go next and take two rounds

I feel like this is insulting to Justin Braun.

Just did my 3 round mock at FC, came away with:
6 Frondell C/W
22 Bear C/W
31 Murtagh C
36 Schmidt LW
40 Ivankovic G
45 Fondrk C
48 Moore C
68 Genborg RW

Thoughts?
