Official 2025 NHL DRAFT Thread

One ranking I saw had him listed as the #1 center in the draft. Although with draft rankings not always sure if someone is trying to get clicks.

Not sure he is a C... and he is #3 for me if he is.

Misa and Hagens just have so much more road to be elite.

Whereas if Frondell hits his 90th centile he is probably a ~Seb Aho level 1C... a good 1C but maybe ~15th best in league.

Tosepher. You know why. What was the number again? Three defensemen under six foot drafted last year?

How’s his skating? Didn’t seem like a huge plus in the little that I saw against Canada that would make me feel like teams would draft him in an appropriate range at his size.

Stats are acceptable for the USHL. Led draft eligible D in points and that was after coming over mid year.
I’m booty at evaluating skating but it looks good to me. It’s his athleticism that might hold him back a bit? It’s tough to understand but I’m not too concerned with it. He’s one of the best Dmen in the class with gaps in quick transition and timing interceptions, he’s super aggressive there.

I know the stats are acceptable but I think he’s capable of more offense than the numbers show. He’d be a first round guy if he was 6’1-6’2.

Pronman and Wheeler shared their picks for the first 2 rounds.

#6, Jake O'Brien (C), (top 5 were Schaefer, Misa, Frondell, Desnoyers, Hagens ... McQueen and Martone go 7-8), "the Flyers strongly consider [Martin] and [Martone] here, but O'Brien's smarts come the closest to matching Michkov's, and they bet on that pair working in sync" - Wheeler

#24, Jack Nesbitt (C)

#25, Logan Hensler (RHD)

#36, William Horcoff (C)

#40, Ivan Ryabkin (C)

#45, Eddie Genborg
(LW), "a true throwback Flyers type of pick... one of the most physical players in the draft" - Pronman

#48, Nathan Behm (RW)

This is basically what I’m expecting from 24-40. At least 1 RHD and 2 C’s with size. Ryabkin would be fun because I think this board would be split on him.

Aren’t those picks from Col. and Edm 22 and 30?

@Appleyard saw you posted about euro 5v5 production for Dmen. Are there any fwds in the class with more lopsided 5v5 production than Drott? I think it's close to 90%.

Petrenko (25/31 at 5v5) is very similar. Drott I believe is at 29/36.

Zharovsky (41/50 at 5v5) is also crazy high. Westergard (37/50) is also high. David Krčál (I think 32/43)...

Probably some others but not done a full on Euro data set.

Not many guys ever get over 75%.

I really really really don't like that.

Seems probable.

Didn't expect that from Zharovsky. Really like him. Haven't seen any of Petrenko though. I'll check him out.

Zharovsky's numbers are insane.

3.7 5v5 P/60
66% xGF

basically only Misa, Desnoyers, Martone, Kindel and Bear have scored more per 60 in an u-20 league this season... and MHL is way lower scoring than the CHL.

And in terms of xGF%? No junior draft eligible player on earth has better. (Kindel is right there with him though, Bear not too far off, Westergard there too (but that is the Stenberg effect mostly)

Magua's post from a year ago. I mean we all predicted this

If I were running this draft for the Flyers I may genuinely take forwards with all 7 of the top 50 picks depending on how things fell.

Limatov in the 2nd is maybe the only guy who I feel is likely to be a BPA on D somewhere before 50 given where Flyers pick... Boumedienne might have had a chance with an early 2nd a few weeks ago... but now? Guess he goes in the top 25 and think better fwds will be there.

Maybe I could justify a goalie at #49 I guess...

I could see it going that way (Schaefer, Misa, Frondell, Desnoyers, Hagens). I think it might be down to preference that could sway the exact order of the last 3. If this does happen I am hoping for Martone or that he goes earlier and pushes Hagens down to us. Because of past history my concern is "the Flyers strongly consider [Martin]".

My preference would be Hagens - that would be a major win, I think. If all centers are gone, Martone would be a smart choice.

I'm not against O'Brien, but picking him at 6 feels like galaxy braining things again.

I definitely like the Obrien pick at 6 if the draft falls like that. Has the profile of a guy who could be a 1C with the least red flags.

His 5v5 scoring combined with the skating is a bit scary tbh

Very few guys with such a profile in CHL draft year have ever became a 1C. His skill is great... but if he was 6'0 on the dot I don't think many would have top 8.

I think someone posted O’Brien’s comparables in this thread and it’s scary but each player is different and the past doesn’t necessarily dictate the future and someone can always buck the trend. He’s definitely boom or bust I think, he won’t be an okay draft pick but either a bad one or a great one

I still think there will be a major surprise in the top 5 as there often is. Armstrong has gone off the reservation to pick Simashev, Buk, and Iginla in the 1st the last 2 drafts. I could see him liking McQueen or Martin. I think a team in the top 5 may also take a swing on O’Brien if they don’t like the upside of the other guys

This is what I am hoping for. It only takes one :D
