There’s often no such thing as consensus, which is the interesting bit. Someone like Patrick absolutely was. How instructive is it really to say Ty Smith was 13th in McKenzie’s survey but 15th on this consensus board and Farabee was 14th on McKenzie’s but 13th on The Hockey Writers Consensus board? You can take those any way you want. If you want to go by McKenzie on Ty Smith, you can’t also choose DeBrincat because he didn’t even have him as a 1st rounder.

Ultimately it’s too muddy when you’re not picking near the top or there isn’t a clear tier break like Buium. The only way to pin those situations down is to clearly define parameters — consensus on a specific message board or among public scouting services or really anything. But it has to have a scope. Otherwise it’s whatever you want it

it would be nice if Dallas wins but I don’t think it’s worth getting stressed about the difference between pick 25 and pick 30. There is probably a good chance Briere bundles 2-3 picks together to pick in the 10-20 range. Depending on who’s available in a trade up scenario, I think I rather the Flyers have 6 late 1sts/early 2nds as you’d have more lottery tickets with potential. Either way there isn’t some huge gap between 25 and 30 and it’s doubtful a taller makes it that far and that tier of players in the 20’s is large

Interesting note from Pronman from the Athletic podcast. Said NHL teams he's talked to, Misa is the most probable 2nd pick in this draft but it's definitely not consensus. There's a big blob between 2-7 where some each of Frondell, Desnoyers, O'Brien, Martone and Hagens are 2nd of teams boards.

O’Brien is the most surprising name in there. He has a lot of potential but right now he’s a bit of a powerplay merchant; not that the powerplay doesn’t count

I remember trialing it a while back by asking it to simply give me an all time Flyers 20 man roster with 12 fwds, 6D and 2G...

it could not. It kept giving me 18, or 23 men rosters, with 7 or 8 Dmen, or 15 fwds... it was comical.
