Official 2025 NHL DRAFT Thread

I would call Tuch consensus from what I remember and a quick look back.

Definitely not Tage Thompson for me either. They traded down. By consensus, they would have stayed put and picked Kieffer Bellows. I would argue any non-Bellows side would count as correct because I never saw a good NHLer in that guy for a second but YMMV.

It makes no sense to call Laughton and Sanheim misses at their spots in the draft. Laughton is 17th in scoring from the 2012 draft, and if Pastrnak was actually considered BPA at #17 in 2014 he wouldn't have lasted till #25.

It’s ridiculous to nitpick to the point of: “We selected a very good player. A top pair defenseman. But one of the best players in the league went after.” I don’t even think the prospect watchers here who regularly lament certain misses hold them to that standard. Do Devils fans cry that Hischier isn’t Makar, or Dallas fans with Heiskanen?

If you select good players at picks, you will have a good team. You’ll probably get that best guy eventually because your process is sound. It also completely ignores developmental impacts.

Wrt Heiskanen, Dallas built half their core with their first three picks in that draft alone, lol.

There’s a reason we aren’t bombarded with how Dellandrea busting at 13th overall ruined their hopes of contending. (And why the Flyers selecting the clear BPA and 3rd highest scoring forward in the draft at 14th wasn’t a game changer.)

I hope other teams’ boards aren’t this bad…he is clearly making the point that it would be best to stick with the consensus pick instead of thinking you’ve out smarted the rest of the world, especially with as high a pick as 4OA. Are people disagreeing? Fine, Pasta was not the consensus pick. I’d still rather have a 35 goal scorer over York. The Bruins themselves should have just stuck to the script with their 3 1sts in a row.

I’m honestly interested to see if/when the floodgates open with notable kids jumping from the CHL to the NCAA for next year.

If what people are saying could happen actually does that’s going to be rough for the CHL.

Sounds like the Big Ten schools have a notable advantage in NIL money compared to the rest of the country.

Those east coast schools where hockey is king will have rich alumni throwing money as well. Will be interesting to see it play out. Just takes one rich person….

Daily Faceoff had him as middle six C. Smaht Scouting has him outside the Top 10. FC Hockey has him as a 2C. Ferrari at THN has profiled him as a complementary player, one who won't be the driver on a line. LWOS looked at the range of scout rankings, and they are anywhere from 3rd overall to somewhere in the teens.

And a common theme across many of the scouting profiles is that he does not have an elite skillset.

From LWOS -

The biggest concern holding Desnoyers back from being an undisputed top-10 pick is his skating. While his straight-line speed is serviceable, he lacks the explosive acceleration to pull away from defenders in transition.
Two comparables for Desnoyers that he should try to model his game after are Sean Couturier (Philadelphia Flyers) and Mark Stone (Vegas Golden Knights). Caleb might not necessarily be as good as either of these players, but the similarities are definitely there.

If the Flyers draft him, of course I would be happy and hope he reaches his absolute potential.
No disrespect tho those outlets but the 6 I named are more reputable. Most notably BM and his nhl scouts.

We are so shallow with top end in the prospect pool we have to hit a majority of the swings in the next two drafts just to be viable in 4-5 years. It doesn't matter what round we have to have some real talent in the pipeline.

When's the last time that happened for the Flyers?

I can think of Ghost being an elite level offensive defenseman. That's a major hit for a 3rd rounder.

There's a bunch of smaller wins - like Lindblom, Cates, Ersson.

There is some potential with guys like Bump and Barkey.

It would be nice to hit on at least one guy outside of the 1st round that can break out like Point, Aho, Robertson.

We really do. You can tell the FO is counting on every top 2 round pick being an impact player and it's just laughable.
