Official 2025 NHL DRAFT Thread

Until Flahr and the scouting department are flushed it’s hard to get excited about the Flyers and the draft. Last year if the Flyers had passed on Buium and taken Helenius, I wouldn’t have liked it but understood the selection. But to take a center whose only asset was straight line speed was poor work.
Flahr’s penchant for focusing on one aspect of a player at a time is his hallmark. One year it’s size; the next it’s speed. He just doesn’t look at overall skill. Luchanko might be a nice kid but he lacks offensive skills. At this point in his career they aren’t just going to appear out of nowhere. He doesn’t have the on ice ability to see the game and understand where he can go to make things happen. It isn’t there. Good scouting philosophy would have picked up on that.
For these reasons I can’t get worked up over the Flyers draft. I just assume that they’ll blow the pick and leave better talent on the table for another organization to take.

Flahr is a good example of how they never really wanted a regime change. Or any change for that matter.

The voices grew too loud, in particular against Comcast - and Fletcher was removed. Nobody else aside from Chuck was let go. They felt no issue with their development/scouting program.

You’re right, until Flahr goes - it’s all kind of moot. Who replaces him though, another one of Briere’s night school buddies from Maine?

Think Mrtka (and to a lesser extent, Smith) may be a wildcard in the top 6-7. The ultra sought after RHD. 6’ 6”. Can skate. Was in the ballpark of point per game his first season in North America. That’s the profile of a guy who goes high in the draft

I feel pretty confident he won’t be the Flyers pick though. It’s pretty obvious they are after a center. I just hope it’s not to the extent that they would pass over a superior winger like Martone or Eklund. If Desnoyers is picked over them I can live with it and be “okay”. I’d be kinda upset if O’Brien is picked over the 2 wingers. Outside of the lottery win dream, fingers crossed for Frondell/Hagens

Barring a miraculous 4th place finish, I’m pretty sure I will hate this pick. Not impressed by too many of these guys. The good news is I’m just getting started, so there might be more to dislike.
The wild card in this will be Nashville. I honestly think Boston is going to look for size up front (McQueen/Martone) and Seattle will probably be looking at defense (Smith or Mrtka). If Nashville takes Hagens or Martone, then I see Frondell ending up in Philadelphia. If it's not Frondell, then I'm really thinking that O'Brien is going to be the guy, especially with how he's really climbed. I love his offensive game and I love that he grew two inches, but I hate that he's a poor faceoff guy. O'Brien needs to add more mass though. 170 pounds is just too light for that height. If he adds 20 to 25 pounds, he becomes a completely different player. I know people don't like Gary Roberts, but if I'm the Flyers, that's who you send him to.

Almost all the worst possible outcomes played out this week in regards to the tank. What seemed like a surefire top 6 pick pre lottery is looking dicey. We need to lose 1 game in regulation to secure the 6th best odds pre lottery.

Knowing how things have gone, I'm sure they'll go 2-0 and all of Seattle, BUF, PITS, ANA will lose out. Being a fan of this team literally hurts.

I'm genuinely terrified everything will go wrong for us again this week:
1. Montreal beats Chicago tomorrow to clinch which eliminates CBJ.
2. CBJ will have nothing to play for Tuesday and we beat them at home.
3. NJ has been awful the past week, and just got spanked by BOS last week, they'll go super try hard and beat Boston.
4. LA still fighting for home ice with EDM, will beat Seattle.
5. Washington has been on sleep mode ever since Ovie broke the record. Will try and rectify before the playoffs start. Win vs PITs.
6. Anaheim has been their usual awful self the last 10 days. Minny still fighting to clinch and then they're on a B2B on the road in Winnipeg. They'll go 0-2.
7. Buffalo running out of steam after a hot stretch. Toronto still fighting to win the division, they'll beat Buffalo Tuesday. Then the most important game of all of us. BUF vs PHI on Thursday. It'll be a Gauranteed Flyers win just to break us all.

This all leads to the 9th pick and picking a future middle 6 player.

Obviously that's worst case scenario and im just going overboard, it's just hard guys. What an absolute painful ending to the season. Typical.

Let's just get this year done with. Can't handle this team for anything more than the next few days.

I'm sorry I went full Doom and Gloom, just needed to vent haha
2. Chicago helped us a lot. CBJ had something to play for and got it done.

3. Boston came back from 2 down to get a point.

The with todays loss, the lowest we can pick pre lottery is 7. A little disaster averted. Please for the love of god Buffalo beat us good on Thursday.

Beautiful evening.

So with 0 points on Thursday we are 4th

1 point on Thursday and 0 for Seattle tonight we are 6th

1 point on Thursday and 1 or 2 for Seattle tonight we are 5th

2 points on Thursday 0 or 1 for Seattle tonight and we are 7th

Do I have this right?
Yep you do - Only thing is if we beat BUF but it goes to OT we end up 6th not 7th
