Official 2025 NHL DRAFT Thread

Schafer is definitely going first overall so it will come down to Misa, Hagens or Frondell for the next three picks depending on what each teams requirements are and then either Martone or Desnoyer 5th and 6th.

If I understand it Chicago cannot win the lottery due to them winning two years ago. Is that correct?

False

If Hawks win lottery this draft though it would disqualify them from winning lottery next year

Hawks won lottery in 2023 and if they won it this year to advance up to #1 spot they would hit the 2 advances in 5 years rule and thus would be ineligible for moving via lottery for several years

Have a feeling Frondell goes ahead of Hagens...feels like a Trotz move and Nash is slotted to pick 3rd pre-lotto. Hagens then ends up in either Philly or Boston with the 4th pick.

A top five pick this year would be pretty good. I don't think any of the forwards are going to be Hart trophy guys but as long as they don't go wildly off the board they should get a top six guy and possibly a top liner. With the Flyers luck though they will finish 4th and we'll all be really excited and then the Pens and Rangers will win the lottery and jump us and we'll pick 6th.

It is funny that people focus on the “big” aspect of McQueen’s profile, but he is also very talented. His problem is the back issues. That is really the only reason not to take him in the top 10.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying McQueen's a bad player, but we're talking about a pick that is currently slotted #4. If we were a few picks further down, I'd be on board, but I don't have McQueen ahead of Schaefer, Misa, Hagens, Martone, or Frondell. I think there's a fairly significant cutoff after those five, and unless we drop to 6th and those are the top 5 picks, I don't want us seriously considering names outside of that pool.

So would you guys be kind of upset to win the lottery this year? Then they’d have to finish last and not lose the lotto to draft 1OA next year.

Flyers are far enough away that they just need talent. Good chance a center is the BPA but if it isn’t you just got to take BPA. The Flyers should be bad for a few years where they can grab a center with top line potential

If the Flyers choice was between Martone, Eklund, and O’Brien, who are you hoping for?
Martone looks head and shoulders above the other two. Eklund seems like someone who is in that 3 tier after the top 6 have gone. O’Brien sounds like a better version of Jett so he might be available with our 2nd pick.

Depends on how people feel about Schafer

Hawks need F help with this pick but if they win lotto it would be hard to pass up on him even with our D situation which is the strongest part of our rebuild/prospect pool at this point

Vlasic
Levshunov
Rinzel
Korchinski
Del Mastro
Kaiser
Allan
Crevier

If Hawks won lotto and drafted Schafer then that probably means they would look to move someone possibly packaged with other assets for F help

Hawks winning lottery this year could possibly open up a trade possibility as well if they feel comfortable not drafting Schafer and moving down from #1 spot if a team wants to jump up from 3 or 4

I am sure some fans would be upset but whatever if Hawks can move up this draft you get to choose who you want from your board and not be dependent on other teams choices

Honestly wish Jackets had accepted trade off last year at draft when Hawks wanted to move this years first unprotected for #4 to grab Demidov

New to the Flyers?

I can almost guarantee, short of getting the first pick, they are going to take a center. It’s all they talk about.
Honestly, I wouldn't rule out a center over Schaefer at #1 if they win the lotto.

That said, if Schaefer/Misa/Hagens/Frondell are off the board, and we have the entire field to work with, they should take Martone and move assets for a C rather than force the pick. Whether they will or not, they should.

If the Flyers win the lottery and do not pick Schaefer I can guarantee you he will have a Nicklas Lidstrom career and nothing less.

If the players selected before the Flyers pick go Schaefer, Misa, Martone, Frondell and Hagens, I see them taking Desnoyers. IDK what to say about him. His stock is rising. Just don’t know if it’s against weak competition or if he is really talented. Thoughts?

For me its Eklund. The more i watch Martone, i dislike how slow he thinks the game, and how he seemingly has an on/off switch that is off more often than its on when it comes to being physically engaged.

Eklund is faster, better IQ and more tenacious. O'Brien is a step below the other two IMO, and you have to go BPA.

Martone is my 7th overall, So i wouldn't be super upset with him.
