Official 2025 NHL DRAFT Thread

I’m sorry to ruin draft speculation, but there is a 6’6 RHD projected to go 10-15.

Anything past pick 5, the Flyers will be selecting Mrtka or I eat my hat
I actually like Mrtka, but if we pick him at 6, i'm beating Danny's ass.

I've been in the Gym, i'm 6'4", about 15 years younger than Danny, and i got enough time to spare that i can risk a brief prison sentence

We really need to wait for the combine, we should check out McQueen if we are at #7 oa, i believe we are tied with Pittsburg, they have 1 game at hand. At 8 oa, Mrtka may be in the mix. Honestly I’d like Reid or Atkinson even if we move up to get one of ‘em. Reschny is playing like a house on fire with Victoria. That little fella would be a handful on the 3rd line. Take Ryabakin at 8, swing for the fences

Still some games yet for the Flyers to lose but it’s frustrating. Even if they are sitting 7th they should have a shot at Frondell, Eklund, O’Brien which isn’t the worst thing in the world. Not sure how I feel about Desnoyers, Smith, and Mrtka. I wouldn’t be shocked if some team reaches on one of the latter 2 in the top 6 as Dmen are always at a premium. I can also imagine one of Hagens or Martone slipping a few spots down which would be my ideal scenario where the Flyers grab one of them.

Not even sure how to rank Ryabkin. He’s projected in the ~15-22 range but we’ve all heard how surprised fans would be if they could see individual teams’ rankings as they often don’t resemble the consensus. If the Flyers think he can be a top 6 center he should be in play with our 1st.

Boston’s 1st rounder last year had THREE Points in 36 Games at BC this season?! THREE?! He’s a Forward!
Did you consider he’s 6’7?

Taking a kid from Prep school in the first round these days is essentially lighting a pick on fire. He, like JOB, should have at least played some form of Junior hockey before going to college. It’s a huge jump. Gostisbehere is one of the best performers and he wasn’t even a draftable prospect in his draft year.

Is it safe to say Misa is the new #2 pick? From what I read Hagens stock has fallen, right?

I'd say Frondell and Marone are the 2 prospects to determine how the draft will end up for the Flyers (if there are no picks exchanged ofc).

As a Flyers fan I learned to be always pessimistic so I absolutely expect to pick them the first time when

Misa
Hagens
Frondell
Desnoyers
O' Brien

are off the board.

how many of the teams we are fighting for a bottom 5 pick, play against each other in these last games of the season? That seems to be the only thing that’ll save us.

Bruins play Penguins and Sabres in next 2 weeks... they also play the Blackhawks.

Penguins play Blackhawks 2x.

Kraken play Sharks 1x.

We play Sabres last game.

Boston's gonna be bad for the next 3-5 years at least. Guys like Pasta and Fatf***Avoy are probably going to want out. They have a bad roster and barren pipeline. Have to think Sweeney is gone after this season.

Thankfully the Bruins have such an easy schedule as they’ve looked awful since the deadline.

The biggest worry IMO would be the Kraken and losing that coveted 5th spot. Maybe the Sabres counteract that by going streaking. Especially with 3 games in hand on the Flyers.

But they were on their way to finishing 29th if they had just let God Emperor Twat the First finish out the season
Maybe someday the entire story on Tortorella will get out. There has to be more to it than simply Tortorella and York got into it. For DB/Jones/Hilferty to make the move when they did has to mean that there was more to it than what is on the surface. That and the fact that Tortorella was indeed fired and not allowed to resign is significant.
It’s always the same with Tortorella wherever he’s gone. He ends up pissing on the wrong person’s shoes too many times. After this one, he’ll be hard pressed to get another job in the league. Even in Boston, where he’s from, isn’t going to touch him.

I would prefer Martone to Desnoyers or (don't call me Jay) O'Brien, anyway.

This has been tough draft to rank because I don’t think there is much separating the guys at top. I’ve been constantly tweaking my rankings for weeks, lol. Right now, I have it:

1A tier
1. Schaefer
2. Misa

1B tier
3. Hagens
4. Frondell

Second tier
5. Martone
6. Eklund

Third Tier
7. Desnoyers
8. McQueen
9. Smith
10. O’Brien
11. Mrtka

If I was absolutely sure about McQueen’s future health, he moves up to the second tier. And, within the top 2 tiers, it’s basically coin flip between Misa/Schaefer and Frondell/Hagens. And I wouldn’t be surprised in the least if one of those tier 1B guys ended up the best player in this draft or if Martone and/or Eklund ended up outperforming one or more of the guys ranked above them.

I really don’t think you can go wrong with any of the top 6.

If the Flyers get Frondell at 7 we somehow Michkov the league again. Never ever he drops more than 5th overall. I expect him to be picked at 3. Hagens and Martone go 4/5 imo.
