Official 2025 NHL DRAFT Thread

A good test is to name every top defensive defensemen in the league. Where were they drafted?

Hell, the back to back Cup champs got their 1D, defensive leaning guy off waivers.

75% chance I make it to pick #6, and then shut the TV off and take a power drill to my head.
I have a gig Friday and we start at 7. So I guess our first break is really gonna suck.

I feels everyone's pessimism too - things seem to be trending Martin.

Funnily enough I have him 8th overall but would be pissed if we pick him 6. (1-7 is a different tier). All we can hope is Utah or Nashville clutch up and take him.

Please for the love of god let it be Hagens, O'Brien or Martone at 6

If you could guarantee me that Martin stays at center, and becomes a 60-75 point heart and soul type player like Mike Richards or Kesler then I can get on board. Problem is, if he becomes a wing in the NHL and you passed over Martone, that’s a bad look and another middle 6 winger isn’t something we need

O’Brien has a high ceiling if he gets better skating and doing more with less space. Problem is, if he doesn’t he’s probably a big bust.

Really hope it doesn’t come down to those two but if it does I hope Briere chooses right and I’ll hope for the best

Speaking of Brad Allen and Hockey Prospect, they really picked James Hagens apart. Criticized his skating, passing, inability or unwillingness to move away from perimeter play. The also questioned his thinking on the ice. It was very interesting. They said he is a very talented player and Projects as a 70 point winger. Jerome Berube and Allen were very critical. They said he could get better. They compared him to Shane Wright.
The love Carter Bear but are wary of his injury. They had him well inside the top 10 before his injury.
Very interesting conversation.

If the Flyers don’t take a center at #6 then it’s all but certain the Flyers would have to take one at #22 or #31.
Zegras probably relieves that pressure quite a bit. They do still need to add a lot of defense and center prospects as it is. The winger situation already looks like it’s going to need to be cleaned up in the next few years

I know there was a Flyers mock draft where everyone picked their individual players by numbered pick in order but I haven’t seen an actual 32 players list by any poster.

I also haven’t read as much through the pages so I may have missed.

Not sure if this is the right place for this but this is my prediction of how the 1st round might go.

  1. LD Matthew Schaefer
  2. C Michael Misa
  3. C Anton Frondell
  4. C Caleb Desnoyers
  5. C James Hagens
  6. RW Porter Martone
  7. C Roger McQueen
  8. RD Radim Mtrka
  9. C Brady Martin
  10. RW Victor Eklund
  11. C Jake O'Brien
  12. LD Kashawn Aitcheson
  13. LW Cole Reschny
  14. LD Jackson Smith
  15. LW Carter Bear
  16. RW Justin Carbonneau
  17. LD Cameron Reid
  18. C Braeden Cootes
  19. RD Logan Hensler
  20. C Jack Nesbitt
  21. LW Malcolm Spence
  22. C Ben Kindel
  23. RW Bill Zonnon
  24. LW Milton Gastrin
  25. C William Moore
  26. RD Blake Fiddler
  27. RW Alexander Zharovsky
  28. RD Henry Brzustewicz
  29. C Cole McKinney
  30. LD Sascha Boumedienne
  31. RD Max Psenicka
  32. LW Shane Vansaghi
If anyone else has a list, feel free to post.

I do feel like this happens every year. Scouts focus on one player and over analyze them into oblivion.

Zegras move makes me think Flyers believe they aren't going to get a flashy 1C.... I'm assuming their thinking they will get one of Martone or Martin (i see him going to Nash) outside chance they go D (Mrtka)...... they must think Hagens, Frondell, Caleb will be gone as well and they likely aren't big on O Brien over a Martone...I'd love Martone to fall to us and the Flyers push hard to trade up for Mcqueen, O Brien, Martin or even Eklund (whoever falls in 10-12 range).... We the fan base literally have been waiting for this draft....Danny has to hit this one out of the park imo....

the thing with Martin is that there's been so much buzz about him around this draft position and multiple teams near the Flyers having interest in him that it no longer feels like some ludicrous reach, it's just that he's by far the least inspiring option out of the 8 or so players that've been connected to the Flyers that if he ends up being the guy, we'll justifiably react to it in the same way we did Luchanko.

Any of the Flyers media guys say anything about Luchanko before the draft last year?

Now this i wanna know. Because i remember that pick feeling like it came absolutely the f*** out of nowhere.

If there isn’t a Philly guy who called Luchanko before the draft I’m not sure they are worth paying attention to. We’ve seen Desnoyers, Frondell, Hagens, Martone, Martin and O’Brien thrown out by different people which tells us absolutely nothing. I think we’ll only know once the pick is made

The more i think about it, the pick that feels like... let's call it the best Flyers case scenario (i.e. not the ACTUAL best case scenario, which is probably Hagens at 6 or trade up a few spots and take Frondell) but the best case scenario given who's responsible for running the team and setting their draft board is... trade up with Utah and take Desnoyers. not the guy with the highest ceiling, but the guy with the most well-rounded game that doesn't feel likely to bust and will justify his draft position. he probably won't overperform, but he'll be a really good player and a staple of their top 6 for a long time. you'll have some people that'll complain that they should've taken someone else, for sure, but you probably won't have some insane outcry like when you passed on Buium. that last point probably means a lot to the Flyers' state run media.
