Official 2025 NHL DRAFT Discussion

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

I'm really excited about the depth of talent in this draft at the C position. Whatever slot we end up drafting in will give us some good options. Honestly, I could be thrilled with one of the tier 4 guys even if we end up drafting around 10th (currently sitting 14th).

Tier 1
Misa
Frondell
Hagen's

Tier 2
Desnoyers
McQueen

Tier 3
O'Brien
Martin

Tier 4
Cootes
Nesbitt
Ryabkin

I want to be excited about O'Brien, clearly a very smart player, but his skating gives me Strome flashbacks. Not to mention, he seems like the last player that would fit well into AT's system. His propensity to overpass and bypass wide open chances would not be tolerated.

I wouldn't be surprised if BA goes after someone like Lakovic. Obviously the size factor, but he is impressively over achieving this season on a terrible team.

nah, we want the Hab kid, Caleb Desnoyers or Carter Bear

If Maccelli is seriously on the outs in Utah I wonder what packaging him and the first could return.

I doubt that would be enough but what would Matt Barzal cost? He's been disappointing for New York these last couple of seasons and I wonder after trading Nelson if they're looking to really blow things up. He'd be 28 at the start of next season.

I'd rather they make the playoffs but in the event they don't, I'd like to see them targeting high-end centers and defensemen in the draft until they hit on something. I understand they'll still draft if they make the playoffs, but if they don't their draft position will be better.

You've gotta build through the middle of the ice to win in this league. Historically if you look at the past 30 years, you almost always (not always) have to have a great 1-2 punch down the middle.

Gretzky/Messier
Lemieux/Francis
Yzerman/Fedorov
Datsyuk/Zetterberg
Sakic/Forsberg
Crosby/Malkin

You get the picture...

Barzal is a 0.87PPG center. He is exactly the type C we need but is not good at FO's.

Call me crazy but I would go after Pettersson if he is still available from the Canucks. I doubt he is though.

Tage Thompson is 42.2% in the faceoff dot in his career.
Barzal is 42.3% in his career.

I think either guy would be fantastic to try and acquire but I don't know which team is trying to blow it up/retool right now. And even so, Maccelli + our 1st would not be super interesting I'd imagine. They'd probably ask for one of the Russians/Iginla to be included to even think about it.

As for Pettersson, I was just looking at Eastern Conference teams to potentially deal with. I wouldn't hate the change of scenery idea for his sake but I worry he's never going to fully be the player he once was.

yeah, the year we win the lottery is when we can't get the 1st overall draft choice...pure Coyotes karma.

That being said, the top 4 guys this year are all super talented, so it wouldn't be bad, because any one of the top 4 could end up being the best player out of the group. Now, I do hope that the 3 forwards don't go 1-2-3 leaving Schaefer to us.

I like MavLam, but if you draft 6-foot-6 RD Radim Mrtka it frees up MavLam as a trade chip.

Then you just go Marino Durzi Kesselring down the right side until Mrtka is ready.

Prokhorov is interesting, no one had him in their top 30 until Pronman put him at 17 at the beginning of this month. He's had 10g - 3a in his last 11 games, a late riser. 6'6" Russian winger who can still skate well for his size, sound familiar? Plays the opposite side as But, would be a nightmare line to play against if they both developed. Perhaps BA thinks he has the Russian inside line again, Daniil 2.0.

Edit: Just realized Pronman also had But at 17 in his final mock of 2023...

Assuming that we acquire a big, young player ready to upgrade our 2C slot then I would hate it and love it at the same time.
If we acquire anything other than that then I would just hate it.
