To many nhl teams, the preseason is to long. Make these changes, the talent pool is dilluted with mid players. Imagine every team had a few players of this caliber.
Flyers would still only have 1 tops. They need a high skill player to scapegoat when he fails to win with a bunch of plugs. Unless you’re saying contract the flyers… in which case I’m down…

Maybe it was Guerin that picked this roster but in international play speed kills. The US didn't have close to enough of it. Cooper played a fast paced game and won. Sullivan/Tortorella a grinding one and lost. Canada really exposed the Americans that didn't deserve to be there because they are just too slow-all four Rags; Nelson couldn't keep up. They're washed. Did Hughes get lost in the locker room and wasn't able to find the ice? If the US wants to win international competitions they're going to have to change their approach to the game. Hint to the Flyers as well.
This is not even remotely true. There was massive speed on both sides.
I saw a post somewhere after the first Canada U.S. game that said it well. The regular season plays at 55mph, the playoffs they go at 75 mph, this game was 95 mph and as you could see by the injuries it's not really sustainable long term.
It was a heck of a game and if they played 7 it would go to 7 and still be a toss up.

There has been some chatter about dressing Tkachuk last night when he had an injury and wasn't able to answer the bell. I get it that he is a leader on the team but his willingness to dress when he knew that he couldn't go seems awfully selfish. Between his inability to play and having Kreider, Trochek, and Miller stinking up the rink, it left Sullivan with basically two lines at best. To me a real leader would have sat himself out for the good of the team. He'll have his chances to represent the USA in meaningful games later on in his career.

Yea, but what about Grit/60? It's like they thought they needed actual 4th liners for their 4th line.

Not that it makes me feel better about the Flyers, but it's crazy how even at that level, that type of thinking is still prevalent. At least for the NA teams. I don't know enough about the Euro teams to say.

Props to the players for actually giving a shit here. We see far too often these days where athletes are just mailing it in for these extra curriculars. They played with pride.

It was a great short tournament. The NHL needs to capitalize on these new eyeballs that they got. The opportunity is there. We always talk about that after things like the Olympics being such a great opportunity but it’s never really jumped on.

We haven’t seen something like this happen in sports in a while.
"Wow, I didn't know hockey was so intense and fast-paced. I've got to check this out in person!"

(Attends a Flyers game.)

"Oh."
