You can make the case that Thompson and Blackwood came on later on. But Kuemper won a Stanley Cup more recently than Binnington did. For some reason they bet on Binnington being a 'big game goalie,' when really it was that he was the best Canadian goalie last year. And goaltenders rarely perform the same year over year unless you're one of top few guys. They're week-to-week.

Disclaimer: I would have gone Blackwood if Thompson has personal problems. I agree with your premise.
Kuemper was not good during that run. I’m not saying I would make a decision based on a Cup, but given the flawed parameters, I get it. There’s a lot of ‘09 Fluery in that Kuemper run where one or two big saves obscure the big picture.
