Official 2024-25 Utah HC Season Discussion.

Well, we've played 56 games and for us to sniff the playoffs we will have to get to 98pts...so we have to get 41pts in the remaining 26 games.

Yikes, going to be tough

If you think we can get 5 loser pts the rest of the way, the team would need to go 18-3-5 to make it.

1 - no way we do that, so the only way we can make it is if all the other teams falter and we can get in with 92pts

2 - at 92pts - we would still need to go 15-6-5 down the stretch to get in, which would be a miracle

If you pro-rate pts. now, I believe you need about 92pts. to get the second WC. I don't see Utah making the playoffs. Petey had a podcast on YouTube which I found interesting.

Given the success of our young players, I'll be happy with the season if we can just get closer to the wild card spot.

We're six point back, but Vancouver has a game in hand. If we tighten that gap a bit by the end of season then I think we've ended up roughly where we expected.
I believe Utah plays the Canucks two more times. No sure about Calgary, but any games with those two are must wins.

Good analysis. Chances are slim to none.

Look, 92 points isn't getting us into the playoffs. i think we will be at least 15 points out of the last spot, stop the playoff talk, we have no chance.

I didn't say Utah will make the playoffs, stating a fact that the last WC this year may need less pts. than last, as those were the numbers you used. As it stands today, pts. pro-rated, the last WC team will have 94pts., Utah 82pts. That's 8pts. difference, last year was 21pts. That would be a big improvement. Go over to youtube and watch Petey and his analysis of last year compared to this year. I think he did a very good job.

I watch Petey review, making progress but it has warts. You are right we are not making the playoffs again this year wasting prime years old Keller Sergi and Shatz. Plus we have some great depth Vets. We miss by 8 or 10 points that's directly on BA and his piss poor asset management. We should of been buyers right after we lost our Dmen.

But you guys let him off by saying hey we didn't make play offs but we are playing meaningful games... Armstrong should fire his ass or have one nasty note on his record. We miss the playoffs we know who's fault it is.

You make it sound so easy but it's not. You have to consider the total number of contracts as well, and Durzi is about to return. Why do you think Koly was waived. Also, BA would probably want a couple of spots open to give him flexibility in a trade etc.

Jakey, I suspect you are my age or older, so I know you didn't get to use a calculator in grade school, but, 94-82=12 not 8:) Do you want to wager on only an 8 point playoff miss? do you want to bet on the last playoff team having 94 points or less? I think both will be higher.

I don't need somebody's analysis to confirm or deny my views, I am sure Peteys accurate in his mind and those that think the same way.

Petey pointed out a number of factors too..... like playing at Mullett vs Delta Center.

They kicked ass at Mullett but suck at Delta Center. And it show in how their play was.... not just the record.

Couple of things to think of here..... Mullett's ice was one of the best ice sheets in the country (everyone has said as much). We're a fast team and are at our best when we can dictate that pace. Delta Center's ice so far seems adequate, but doesn't come close to what they had last year.

If I were Ryan Smith I'd take the opportunity to address that when they start renovating the building.

I had been thinking about this for a while now, and now that Kolyachonok has been lost to a waiver pickup, it seems even more relevant.

All year I have thought that Kolyachonok was a better d-man than Valimaki. I could never quite figure out why Tourigney kept playing Valimaki over Kolaychonok. Am I alone in that thought?

The message has been clear since before the season even started. The team is also exactly where he said it would be. Some people just don't like it, others don't listen. Some don't listen because they don't like it.

"BA is just covering his ass," "of course he's going to say that," etc.

Maybe he just knows what he's talking about! There's even information out there that supports what he says to back it up.

"General manager Bill Armstrong has tried to temper expectations, telling media on a number of occasions that teams that are four years into rebuilds rarely make the playoffs. His goal is to play meaningful games toward the end of the season, meaning they’re either fighting to maintain a playoff spot or fighting to get one."

Wonder if other team on a vacation in Scottsdale vs work trip in Utah might have anything to do with it. I think i also remember last year Mullet's ice wasn't in top list for league like it was previously.

I think another big factor is that the entire team basically got traded to Utah.

Away games were the only thing familiar to the team when the season started. Might just be taking some time for them to settle with all the unfamiliarity of Utah being home. Anyways, maybe that's at least partly a factor in playing so much better on the road this season.
