It's an annual tradition for me to start one of these threads.

Was hoping I wouldn't have to once that clown Holland left. But Bowman is clearly no better.

Yet another year of McDrai wasted on a defense with a glaring hole in the top 4, a starting goaltender that is anti-clutch and zero depth scoring.

Spoiler alert. They're the same image

Dumbass Daryl wears all of the blame for hiring Jackson who then helped hire Bowman. It's his fault, and trying to use his media mouthpiece this afternoon to distract from that was both hilarious and sad.

We can fire the new regime all we want, the real problem is the rube of an owner we have who has allowed this to happen, allowed Schwartz to stay around, allowed the team to run the second-smallest scouting staff in the entire league, etc. etc. Nothing changes until Katz either sells or chooses to use the smart side of his brain rather than the stupid one.

Should have fired him the week offers to either Holloway or Broberg werent matched.

The stupidity and logic behind this move is so far fetched ... its hard to comprehend.

Tone deaf loser.

Should never have been hired in the first place. An incredibly mediocre track record in Chicago, and a nepo baby hire at that with no merit behind him except a name. FFS.. if it's not the Oilers OBC he surrounds himself with, he floats in idiots from other organizations like Holland and Wright, and now Jackson / Bowman.

Absolutely useless, but as other posters have rightly pointed out, this all flows down from the clownshow owner.

this is on Jeff Jackson...those NMCs to 3rd line busts killed their chances to improve
and yes, I blame Jackson for the Broberg and Holloway fiasco too
Bowman could have matched Holloway if he wanted to. But lets just focus on today:

RNH-McDavid-Hyman
Pod-Drai-Arvidsson
Janmark-Henrique-Brown (lol)
Skinner-Kapanen-Perry
Frederick (IR)

Ekholm-Bouchard
Nurse-Walman
Kulak-Emberson
Klingberg

That roster with Kane on LTIR would have left the Oilers with $2M in LTIR cap space. Throw in Kapanen (either in a hypothetical trade or on waivers) and we'd have $3M in LTIR space. We could have added a $6M player with 50% retention today. All it would have taken would be sending Jones and Dineen back down and waiving Stetcher.

Jackson blew the summer yes. Bowman has blown the fall and now the season.

Bad NMC to Skinner and Arvidsson had nothing to do with it. This is just on a shitty GM who can't get it done when the chips are down.

This roster is quite the puzzle, and who knows what we’re going to get but we are trusting a coaching staff that frequently doesn’t get things right to solve it:

Got McDrai, who we don’t want to play together since they’ll wear down with all the ice time.

Top six wingers Nuge and Hyman are way off their expected level

Who knows what Kane can contribute when he can play, and when he can play is iffy.

Perry and Skinner can score goals but Perry seems on a heater and who knows how Skinner can get out of the doghouse and actually play

Podzolkin and Arvidsson are being cast as top 6 wingers but sure aren’t playing like ones.

Henrique and Janmark have been awful, hopeful for some bounce back to last season’s playoff form. Brown has been little better, but no great shakes.

Frederik and Jones are the new guys, and should really help, especially when Frederik is back.

Ryan and Philp aren’t good enough to play 4C but we have to hope one of them can handle it in the playoffs.

Kapanen should be back on the waiver wire.

Ekholm is beaten up and sick, and a long way off his expected level of play

Bouchard can be the best defenseman in the world past the centerline and the worst one behind the centerline

Nurse has bounced back. Nice to see, hope he can keep it up, he’s been pretty much our only reliable top 4 D lately.

Walman was added. Good offensive guy but we’ll see what we get at the back

Kulak has been a bit off, but good all year, a bad idea to put him at 2RD where he should be only on spot duty against specific opposition

Emberson has been OK, but not great, not sure what we’re going to get from him and if we should bring him back hitting RFA this summer

Klingberg - the experiment isn’t working, sit him down until next camp, then give him one more shot

Stetcher has been decent but coaching and GM would try anyone over him for some dumb reason.

Brown shouldn’t be back, keep buried in the AHL.

Dermott was awful here, and not good enough to crack a couple of rosters, close to Bouchard bad in our zone, no idea why we wasted a waiver claim on him other than Knoblauch playing favorites which is a bad way to run a hockey team.

Skinner is flawed and streaky as hell, hope he can go on a good streak, and that the Oilers skaters figure out they have to defend to get the best from him

Pickard has not been as good as last year, has fallen off, not a 1B candidate, I wonder if Rodrigue takes his role next year.

How an NHL GM would be OK with a cup run with such a fragmented and broken roster is beyond me.

even if he did blow the Broberg-Holloway situation (which I doubt since he was here for like 2 weeks when the offer sheet came in), then you better give him credit for extending Draisaitl

also, Emberson was a good pickup, Podz...while he plays far too high in the line-up...is a good pickup
he tried to improve the blueline with Klingberg
I thought the player he did bring in were good players that will help the line-up

he absolutely should have been more but so far he's been average...which is exactly what he is

Jackson should aimed higher in his hiring of a GM

My heart sank the day Jackson hired Bowman; aside from the controversy and bad reputation he's just an utterly mediocre GM and does not deserve this job. This is on Jackson - at the end of the day giving the keys to the franchise to a guy whose only managerial experience was a cup of coffee as an assistant GM with a mediocre Leafs team was always going to be a really stupid and costly decision. Jeff Jackson was a horrible hire and I've been skeptical of him since day one.

I feel sorry for all of us, for sticking with this team through thick and thin and never wavering in our support. There's a very real chance that when 29 and 97 are lifted the rafters we'll fondly look back at the run to game 7 in '24 as the high point of this era, just like we held onto memories of '06 for years. We deserve better. Shame on this organization.

Never was a fan of Stan, he didn’t even really build that Chicago team he sorta just inherited it. He made some good moves to keep it competitive but the hard part was done by his predecessor

But to me this mostly falls on Jeff Jackson and his horrible offseason

Anything less than competing to be the best team in the league this season is a failure when you consider McDrai and where the team was last season. Instead we're worse.

And yes I agree Jackson should have aimed higher. Clearly he never should have been hired in the first place. Ultimately it's all at the feet of Daryl Katz for hiring incompetent upper management time and time again. But this thread is about Bowman. Not them.
