Landing the #2 pick made me care less about landing additional picks in this draft. We got 11 total for this year. If you make some trades I'd look for 2018 picks where they only have their own allotted seven picks.

I don't care much about landing additional picks, but I would still like to see the Flyers package several picks together to get another second round pick.

It seems unlikely that we have to trade back into the first round, but another mid second would be nice. I am very interested to see what Hextall does with those 4th rounders.

One way or another I don't think they make those three selections in the fourth round this year.

I wouldn't package several picks though. Depending who's on the board I wouldn't mind packaging a third & fourth together to get into the second round. But anything more than that I'll keep my volume intact. I'm not giving up several picks just to get back into the second round as you're not gaining the greatest of odds there despite it being the higher pick of all of those in the trade package.

I'm reasonably satisfied with the Prospects in the pipeline... although I do feel that they must keep coming... That said, I'm now one of those more interested in quality over quantity... The way I'm looking at it now is twofold; have the Scouts focus on desired Players, have a consensus on who to target and then package picks to move up and grab them when they are available at a reasonable pick, one you can obtain... and secondly, seriously attempt to replentish the Picks -- both later and future -- by moving Players in the System that are felt to be expendable... this includes veterans as well as Players that are in the Pipeline that appear to be falling back in the pack and no longer the Organization's darling... Trade them for the best Picks you can get, thus purging the System yet replenishing the Selections. Before everybody jumps on me for this, I do realize that moving Players and their Cap Hits is not an easy thing... It aim is to do as bet as possible to replentish and retain, and purge while gaining assets along the way... understanding that we are not going to get top Return on all... Moving a Read for example is not a simple matter... but at this point, gaining multiple mid to lower Round selections and rolling them over in packages to move up for a target Playeris IMO the way to go.

In the last three drafts i think it's fair to say the only really limited upside players they've taken are Jesper Pettersson, Samuel Dove-McFalls, & Carsen Twarynski.

They still take a fair amount of well rounded skill set type of guys but most them seem to have offensive upside to some degree on draft day.

Dove-McFalls has been underestimated b/c he was injured last season, he's doing pretty well this year. He was listed at 6'2 207 but is probably bigger now.

Twarynski was 6'2 201 at age 18. Has kinda flatlined offensively.

Don't think either will be a scoring machine, rather, they're a step up from guys like VdV and McDonald, more like Weise, big strong forwards who can skate and will probably spend a couple years in the AHL polishing their game and add size and toughness to balance out the small, quick scorers.

Just looking at that list of draft picks, Patrick Sharp jumps out at me.
Perfect example of why you should be patient with prospects:
Drafted in his first college season, went back one more year.
1 season AHL, 1 season split, 1 season AHL.
When he turned 24 he was traded, that season 14-17 31, solid 3 line winger.
Next season 20-15 35
Broke out at age 26.

Point is that when you look at someone like Weal or Laughton who are 23-24, and showing some flashes, can't conclude that a couple up and down years means they've exhausted their upside.

Giroux was 21 when he put up 47 points, 22 when he broke out.
Even the top guys take a few years, most players don't hit their stride until they're 24-26.

So when Hextall holds a player back in the AHL, he's probably recognizing that skill development takes time, and better to let a player work on his game at a lower level without pressure where he can get plenty of PT. Repeating the AHL does not mean a player is a non-prospect.

So guys like AK, Dove-McFalls, Twarynski, maybe Vorobyov, who are more two way players without polished offensive skills may need a couple AHL seasons to show if they "have it." What I want to see, like Weal and Cousins, is that they show a big jump that second season as they earn more offensive responsibilities. Laughton spending a full season working on defense might be the best thing that happened to him.

11 picks for an average draft like 17, is good, a lot of picks. If we want to move up for a certain guy do it. Then hexy will do a bit of trading as well. Then move a few 17 picks and set up for oh 10 picks or so in 18. Keep the pipeline and shelves full,

I could see one of the 4th's being traded for like a 4th and a 5th/6th next year.

Chances are when we pick, there might be a guy or 2 that we like...but not sure on all 3.

I just see that as a way to add more, multiple picks to 2018.

And I still get this feeling that Cousins will be attached to a pick in a trade somehow at the draft. Instead of a team using a 3rd/4th on a player that could help them in 3-5 years, they role the dice that Cousins can help them now.

I hope you're right - I really don't see an NHL player in him, but I'd like to see him get a chance with someone else and stick.

Since I got autodrafted in the Mock Draft for being MIA I can finally answer this question. Yes! I like him from the little I know without actually watching him. From what I've read it seems he has top 6 upside and isn't afraid of going to dirty areas to score. He plays a bit above his size (5'10")

Macauley Carson from a statistical standpoint & scouting report seems similar to Bunnaman last year.

I don't think it's really worth it. Mason's pretty much the best available now with Bishop & Darling off the board. Bernier, Elliott, Johnson, Miller, Nilsson, etc. aren't worth giving up a pick for their negotiation rights as there isn't a giant separation among them & there are limited spots around the league.
