Agree to disagree, it's all hypothetical and mostly nonsensical. If you're talking about a full on rebuild who cares if Talbot plays out the remainder of a season? Especially considering this isn't a deal that would happen tomorrow. We're talking months from now IF the team is a bottom feeder, which I don't think it will be and IF Sather gets the indication from Hank that he is unwilling to re-sign here.

As far as where he would sign, you don't know. You don't know his motivations, a lot of guys claim they want to win a cup and then sign a more lucrative deal with a less talented team. Funny how that works.

He may kick the tires with some other teams, but I think ultimately, he loves NYC too much and re-signs.

Has also been my feeling the entire time, not concerned with this start swaying him to leave either considering he's been a part of the problem.

And this is important. If we were losing 2-1, 1-0 and Henrik was frustrated it would be 100% understandable. We are getting doors blown off of us and he looks BAD. At this point it would be more plausible for the Rangers to want to get rid of him rather than the other way around (not saying this is the case though).

With the players we have today I think we would do more of a Hawks/Penguins rebuild then a Oilers fiasco. The only good nhl'er Oilers have left from the pre Gagner-pick times
are Hemsky. Also they have also not been able to so far put any non 1. overall
player into a important position in the lineup. We would already have Mcdonnaugh, Stepan and MDZ. 3 young, but experienced top4/top6 players before we would have any top 5 picks.

We also have a number of good players that could return a premium if dealt. Girardi,
Staal, Callahan and Lundquist. All these should net us a minium 1. round pick or
valuable prospect. We also have a bunch of plugs that should give a number of
assets at deadline if we blow it up. Boyle, Stralman and maybe MZA could get us
futures if needed.

Its not yet the time to do anything, but if we're bad at deadline I hope they sell of atleast some assets instead of just missing the playoffs.

i think Sather should trade most of their UFA depending on how they are in the standings even if they make the playoffs by the trade deadline.. if we are in the playoffs, Sather better trade UFA like Brian Boyle to get something back rather than let him walk for nothing like Prust

I don't think they can do a pens/hawks style rebuild because they haven't found elite talent in the draft to build upon.

The elite talent would be found in top 3 pics if they really tank. Oilers have 3 first overal pics + Eberle & Schultz. ALmost nothing when it comes to minute munching d-men or good PK'ers.

Take the under 25 players we have atm and add a couple of top 3 picks and we would have a nice defence and a 1b center + the stars we would hopefully draft. We would
also have a number of assets from the blowing up that can be used that on the much needed young roleplayers that Hawks have and Oilers really miss.

Its worse to blow up and rebuildt to late when the assets are valuable anymore, then
doing it too earlie and miss a first round playoff-exit.

what? penguins drafted fleury malkin crosby and letang. thats pretty much their core. chicago drafted kane toews seabrook and kieth. those two teams definitely build through the draft.

That's what I meant. I probably typed it wrong. Was trying to make the point that the Rangers could not rebuild in that fashion

The Rangers need to take advantage of the trade market and stockpile draft picks.

Feel free to take this as you will, but if things continue trending the way that they have, how do you guys feel about trading Lundqvist and essentially going for an all out, most likely multi-year rebuild?

I am pro trading Lundqvist if he doesn't resign by the all star game.

I am pro trading Lundqvist if he doesn't resign by the all star game. I think the Rangers can rebuilt in a 2 - 3 year plan if they are smart about it. My only untouchable players are Stepan, McDonagh and maybe Staal. Also not moving Richards due to cap recapture/amnesty buy out.

The first guy I trade though is Rick Nash.

there's no way Dolan gives sather the ok to blow it up and except mediocrity or worse for a few years with the market this team plays in and the isles moving in right next door.

100% for it. Long overdue.

1) If Sather told Dolan we were gonna start playing without a goalie he'd be ok with it. Dolan doesn't care about hockey. If he did, Sather wouldn't be here.

2) Isles won't affect the Rangers market share whatsoever. They could be the worse team in the league and it wouldn't matter.

I'm surprised that so many people think it's even a possibility that Lundqvist gets traded. Very rarely do you see organizations trade their number one goalie. This is similar to the kind of proposals people come up with in trades where multiple players swap teams...they just don't realistically happen.

I don't think Lundqvist will re-sign during the season and it will lead to a stressful offseason, but ultimately he will be on this team for years to come.

Hank has been great for us but I don't think paying a goalie $8 million a year is the way to win a stanley cup in the new nhl.

We're not talking about trading a signed Lundqvist we're talking about trading him as a UFA if the indication is he wants to test free agency or doesn't want to sign here. In that case it's essential to trade him instead of letting him leave for free.

oh ok. well we literally have never had a 1st overall pick. rangers could trade all of their ufas and hoard 1st rounders. im not opposed to the idea of trading girardi stralman staal cally richards nash brassard and hank for firsts+high end prospects. its obviously a major step back and the only way it would be worth it would be if we got top 5 picks this year and next. #TheRightWay

I'd sign for that. We need a true rebuild. All retooling will get us is another 54 year cup drought.
