Wishing everyone a 2017 in which you manifest your dreams. 2016 brought me such joy after a few years of struggling transition and uncertainty. 2 years ago, friends were sending me money for food. This year, a very different story. Grateful for that uncertain time and I am so grateful for all that has turned up in my life.

Get still...in your thoughts and your heart. Stay peaceful.
May 2017 bring joy and love and clarity to understand dark moments.

And the final death of 2016...Mariah Carey's career.

Apparently Carey claims she could not hear the monitors, meaning if she had sung, it likely would have been hideously out of tune. This would leave a permanent video of a wretched vocal performance, which could tarnish her career and legacy.

But it also begs the question, how come the dancers seemed to be able to hear OK?

Of course there's also criticism that she was even lip syncing in the first place, but that's apparently industry standard for live TV events (remember the Chili Peppers at the Superbowl).

And I don't know if this off topic for the off topic thread, but are these women undergoing surgical procedures to get their butts that big? (I'm not shaming, though I'm not a fan of exaggerated features in either women or men).

I know it's impossible to spot reduce fat, so is it really possible these women have such enormous behinds without blowing up other parts of their bodies accordingly?

Or does that belong in the fitness thread? ;)

The person in charge of the audio says everything worked fine except her.

But on Sunday, a dispute erupted between Ms. Carey’s representatives and the veteran audio producer involved in the performance.

The producer, Robert Goldstein of Maryland Sound International, a company that has worked on the Times Square event for years, said in an email that there had been no malfunctions with the sound equipment he oversaw.

“Every monitor and in-ear device worked perfectly,†Mr. Goldstein said. “ I can’t comment beyond that and don’t know what her nontechnical issue may have been.â€

Thanks.

Looks like they'll go back and forth on who's to blame.

I wonder if she expected to be either lip syncing completely or singing with a pre-recorded track to thicken her vocal sound and hit notes no longer in her range (which is common these days); and then when she heard nothing she was terrified of going with just her voice?

In other words, maybe everything worked except her pre-recorded vocal track she expected to be singing to?

Just speculation on my part.

One of my tech friends posted this on FB

I was told by a friend who is an ABC tech that she didn't show up for either rehersal or sound check.... she even asked the associate producer 3 times "What time does the ball drop?" so she would be on time. IS SHE THAT CLUELESS?

Hi. Can I ask what her body shape/size has to do with her performance?

Hi. Can I ask what her body shape/size has to do with her performance?

It has nothing to do with her performance.

Even in public I'm noticing women sporting the enormous rear end look, and I'm curious if this is just another dangerous, profit-driven, media-created trend, like the thigh gap, or if they really look that way naturally (which I doubt).

I'm against shaming of any sort, but I am a bit taken aback at the lengths people go to get 'big' (steroids for guys and whatever women are doing to achieve this).

I know steroids have lots of adverse side effects, and so I was just curious what these women are doing to blow up just one part of their bodies.

Maybe they should just sing live. Stop with the lip singing. If they can't sing, then find someone else. She's been a has been for years.
