Saturday marked one of my five favorite days of the year: Sam Adams Octoberfest hit the shelves at the local packie. I had to drink the first one while sitting directly in front of the AC in my living room to get the full effect. Soooooo good.

I have a question for the insurance agents here. My friend put in a car lift in his garage, but did not pull a permit, so he essentially put it in illegally. I told him that he'd better hope he has no issues with it because his house insurance would not cover him since it wasn't done the right way. He's arguing with me saying it doesn't matter. Who is right?

If he is operating a repair business out that garage there is zero coverage under the homeowners policy if anything happens. And I can't imagine anyone going through the trouble & expense of installing a lift just to work on their own vehicles.

Incredibly, he's not running a repair shop. He races his car and is always working on it, so he had a lift put in. In doing so, he raised the roof of his garage, upgraded from 110 volt and ran 220 volt electrical, plumbing, and put a new floor in because the old one was not thick enough to handle the weight of the lift. All without pulling a permit because he didn't want the town to say no. So the argument we're having is based on all that work being done illegally. I keep telling him that he's screwed if anything happens because he did all of that without following the proper channels, while he seems to think that since it's complete he's in the clear.

He's definitely screwed if that car comes off the lift and crushes someone, as there is absolutely no coverage for automobile (either the car itself or liability) under the Homeowners policy. There is an absolute brick wall between homeowners & automobile insurance coverages. Off the top of my head I think the policy is silent about having to pull permits etc. except for situations when the client should report changes to the insurance company but I will check policy language to be sure.

I called the Bucks County Coroner today and they are still waiting on paperwork from Harrisburg to allow me to claim the remains. :banghead:

Pennsylvania may well be more bureaucratic than Massachusetts. :help:

Just visited the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville. Very cool place but almost zero mention of Willie Nelson.

Some good Bob Dylan & Johnny Cash exhibits. Also always nice to see Gordon Lightfoot get his due.

I was there last month. The Grand Ole Opry was kind of a dud. 7 artists doing 3 songs each in a radio show situation full of commercials.

That's too bad. Glad I skipped it then. Cool city, though. I enjoy the Predator mascot's tag line: Make America Skate Again.

I read something on the internet this evening that blew my mind and ruined my childhood.

In The Little Mermaid, why doesn't Ariel write Eric a note explaining things to him?

I would assume they have their own language. While we hear her speak English, how many historical dramas/action movies are stuffed with Latin and (Ancient) Greek speaking actors?

My dad went to the Opry several times. He said it was hit & miss as to how good the show was depending on who was in town to perform on it.

I played golf with my three boys yesterday before two of them head out of state (or country in one case) for school, starting on Friday. Was the most fun I've had playing golf in quite a long time.

Saw the pic on FB and was immediately jealous. What course did you guys play? Haven't played a round in 2 years, and it's killing me.

We played at The Meadow in Peabody. My oldest and youngest played their high school golf there so they were able to give me some advice on where to hit the ball...not that it helped much. But I'm taking lessons and changing my swing, so I can't expect to play that well. Though I did score a little better than my previous two outings this year.

We should do an HF golf outing. I think that's been suggested before. That's a tough one though, but it would be fun.

I feel your pain.

Really I do.

3 kids at UMass. We drop our twins next Friday, Sept 2nd. The oldest still lives out there going for his masters.
I expect it to be one of the worst days of my life from an emotional end. The Bride will we inconsolable. We will be 'empty nesters' for the first time in 23 years.
I'm going to try to stay off line that night because I wont be thinking rationally.

This column struck a cord with me because it really sums up the feelings associated with the whole thing:

Thanks for posting that article Wally. It really does hit a lot of the high points, although it's different this time around, since their mom and I divorced and I only see my youngest once in a while. Saying goodbye when he goes to school is going to just be different this time.

My issue really wasn't with the talent,it was the fact that after every 3 songs they stop and do commercials,a real downer.

I took lessons about 20 years ago. I'd be in if you guys promised you won't laugh at me :help::laugh:

Speaking of golf, 3 weeks from now I'll be heading down to Southern Pines, NC to play 5 courses in 6 days with my dad and 10 of his friends from his golf course. My dad's cousin is a head groundskeeper down there at one of the courses and was able to get us on Pinehurst #2...cannot ****ing wait.

This same group of guys (minus myself) did the same thing in Ireland 2 years ago, 6 courses in 7 days, they had a blast. I was 50-50 on going to NC just because of the overall cost but I figured this is one of those trips where I'll look back on when my dad is gone and be happy that I went on it with him.

Until then George Wright and Franklin Park will suffice. Can't beat the resident membership of $1,100 for both courses, unlimited play.

If she had Disney would have missed out on all those billions from the movie & merchandising.... :D:laugh:

My daughter and I were there last Feb. It was fun to walk around even if you aren't a country fan

I'm taking my oldest son with me to my friend's golf tournament in Vegas in Nov. I'm hoping he'll take that same view.
