For those unaware, Ontario Northland returning with the Northlander with these new sleek train sets. Love the colours too, way better than VIA in my opinion.

There’s been a push from Northern Ontario community leaders for Ontario Northland to takeover VIA rail services within Ontario so it can be better integrated with Southern Ontario.

In particular Sudbury-White River, which is so random and I’ve never understood why it wasn’t extended to Thunder Bay.

With Ontario Northland restarting the Northlander (Toronto-Timmins), it would make total sense for ONR to take over the Sudbury-White River VIA service and extend it both east to North Bay (connecting it with the Northlander) and west to Thunder Bay.

Ontario Northland could become almost like a GO for northern Ontario if they play it right.

Happy New Years everyone. I haven't been on much, too much family stuff this time of year, and won't be back on until after the 2nd, so I thought I'd take the time to wish you all a safe and Happy New Year, and I'm looking forward to the banter, and some success for our Leafs in 2025.

Cheers.

File this under -- that was cool:

So I ordered a new Yamaha 5.1 surround sound amp since the previous one that I bought in 2007 finally died (man, did I get my monies worth out of that thing).

I put it in the check out box 2 nights ago but never actually ordered, seeing as how I had to run it by the wifeage first. I came back tonight to order it and to my happy surprise, $100 bucks was knocked off the price as it's now an item in their pre-boxong day sale.

Glad I didn't order it 2 nights ago as I likely would never have got that deal.
In the early 70s I bought my first stereo system. If I bought amp, receiver, and turntable together they threw in a pair of Audio Research (brand new company) speakers.

Around 1980 I took my system (upgraded amp but the same speakers) to a friend's house for a party. 165 watt amp (80 per channel), and we had it cranked: 50 lights were on steady, the 80 lights was flickering, and the walls were shakin'.

The next day I was packing up and the guys were raving about the sound. I picked up a speaker to show them the back, and saw they were only rated for 30W.

They lasted me another 20 years.

I always loved the train. Its sad that the train is way too expensive and not very convenient in North America.

This is near his area too:

That looks like the Loblaws parking lot.
That is indeed the Loblaws parking lot. A guy driving a black Ford Mustang runs into what is basically a brick wall, no doubt after making a sharp turn into the parking lot screaming northbound on the Bayview extension (that entrance is possibly the single biggest "cut through" in the entire city for people going northbound from downtown). The bozo is lucky that he's alive.

An absolute institution. The city will be worse off if McSorely's ever shuts down.

If you’re interested in what happened in New Orleans and Las Vegas, I’d recommend watching this video. It’s by James Corbett….Canadian living in Japan. Was subbed to his YT channel before YT scrubbed him….his fans still upload his content time to time.

Highly recommended.

Wow. I remember that lot - I used to cut through there going to the Amsterdam brewery to pick up beer on the way to summer hockey at mid Scarborough.

Every once in a while you'd see someone trying to hit Mach 2 through there.

Here we go again folks.

I have never seen Canada so fractured in my life. Canadian politics looks as divisive as I’ve ever seen. The last time it was this bad, we built the Trans Canada Railway!

PQ/BQ is definitely trying to cash in with the upheaval in Ottawa.

Let’s see what happens. I could care less if Quebec votes to secede…whatever happens, I want it to be quick and as less disruptive as possible. The economic instability this would create would make the COVID lockdowns look like a picnic.

The Bloc is going to be the official opposition. What a country.
