I don't know I'm not from Russia, I have a hard enough time figuring out this state/Canada tax ********

All I know is it equates to a 2/7.6 contract and he can't sign it yet.

I did some in depth research (I typed 'do KHL players pay taxes' into Google), and it looks like they pretty much don't. Certainly not to the degree they do in the USA.

He has an offer on the table but his contract still hasn't been terminated by the Coyotes - so he legally cannot sign it.

I thought part of Nielsen's draw is that he was a sound 2-way center who can pot some points?

I only watched a handful of Islanders games last season and even less the prior years.

You are correct. The previous poster didn't know what they were talking about.

I know many are clamoring for a trade and after what KH did today, I wouldnt be shocked to see AA or Mantha go, and that is really unfortunate. Both bring a dimension to the forward group that we have not had in some time. I personally would have been ok with today if we hadn't signed Helm. Who knows where guys want to play etc, but Boedker at 4 mil opposed to what Helm got should be a no-brainer.

So we get a helm clone and sign helm for to much while Radulov signs with another team. Need goals get two guys that cant score about 20 a year.

My main question is obviously we won't have a line 1, as we don't have a 1c.

So we are pretty much trying to run a 3 2nd line system and try for some depth and have no one over 50 points again.

But what on earth do you do with the lines, pre trade.

I think Ken Holland had a pretty good day. Term is 2 years too long on Nielson, but whatever. It won't be hampering long term. And he plays the type of game that he should be okay compared to the FA who took long term deals (Backes/Staal or even Stamkos who has blood clot issues and, maybe premature knee issues).

I grade Kenny a B- for the day. Wish we could have gotten a defenseman.

I don't know if in the only one, but I want to move goose over Tatar, we need someone to score not set up we have way too many pass first guys, as usual... I think Tatar has the heart that finds ways to push that goose doesnt... I see goose as a filppula type...

Personal income tax in Russia is a flat rate of 13%. Not entirely sure of any additional stuff like healthcare contributions, pension, etc.

This division is going to the central in a year or two and were going to get clown pounded. Hopefully those teams get so good they destroy us on a nightly basis that Holland can't keep up with being mediocre.

that demers contract pisses me off to no end.

though there is a chance he had no interest in coming here.

Signs for the same price as Helm and Ott. Lmao.

Would have loved to get Demers instead of Helm. Panthers gonna be good next year.

They still have a couple months until the season. But I have to eat the crow. I said the next 18 months would be big a couple trade deadlines ago. Holland gets a D for what he has done since then. I think it is probably time for him to move upstairs. I would like to hire Paul Fenton out of Nashville to be our next GM.

Landing Fowler/Trouba is probably the only thing that can save our off-season and it just seems unlikely given our inability to make trades. Holland's voice is important and I still want him around, but I think it is time for him to be Devellano and somebody new like Fenton to make the moves.

Tough reality as I love everything he has done for us and it still seems clear he doesn't want to move up just yet. But it looks like it is time, even as somebody that supports him at every turn my confidence is completely shaken. A lot of you will know just how shocking that is for me to say. But facts are facts, I am unhappy with the direction of this team and the answers he is coming up with. More must be done and if he cannot do it, we must turn to somebody else that will and value what input he does have upstairs but be no longer beholden to just his thinking and with a final say elsewhere.

I agree with most of this, but what if he were to trade for a top pair d man? Would that change your mind? Delay the inevitable? Or would you still want to make a change?

Cause IMO, (I might have my red wing tinted glasses on) but say we were to trade for fowler or shatty, we would definitely be in the thick of the playoff race. I think we have one of the best goalie pairings in the league. A good mix of younger and older players. I like our speed. Now I don't think we would be legitimately competing for a Stanley cup but I do think we have some pieces to build upon, instead of going full boar tank. But if we don't trade for a top pair d man, I really don't understand the direction KH would be taking us

That basically is my point to lead off paragraph two.

Yes it would improve it. I don't think we are in the running for Shattenkirk.

I would also be excited if they somehow find a way in on RNH and Duchene, but I cannot see it.

Hard to see the direction of this team, without a significant move before the season starts.

Depending on who it cost us yeah, adding a legit top pairing guy would instantly make us playoff contenders instead of a bubble team. The problem is if we lose one of our better defenders like DDK in the deal then we're not coming up *that* much ahead. I don't mind losing one of Tatar/Nyquist + Mantha + Jurco/Pulk + Ouellet/Sproul/Jensen but who knows what it'd cost?

I'm not even that high on DDK. I think he's a middle pairing guy right now and probably won't ever be much more than a solid #3 or a passable #2. But he's easily one of our better defenders and losing him would be a big blow on a team that lacks good defensemen.

Agree with this, just arrived here sooner than you did. It's definitely time.

Don't think Ryan Martin is the guy to replace him. Fenton could be a good hire, I'd like to see someone agressive on the trade front. Honestly would have really liked Shero.

I have no interest in turning to Ryan Martin. Heck when you're supposed to be the cap guru as one of your primary roles as assistant GM and we mismanage the cap at the onset of the season that is a massive strike against him. Not sure he is a change from a philosophical standpoint either. Our ideal replacements are elsewhere and not realistic on the current timeline.

That is why I have zeroed in on Fenton. Go get him before he takes over the Preds and Poile moves upstairs into a similar situation. He also will come from a system that is the best at evaluating D & goalie talent and development. Combining that with what we would keep in terms of scouting forwards and I think you have a dynamic setup. Plus he wouldn't be beholden to our current players and prospects and would look to shake up the culture a little bit.

I also would like them at this point probably to overhaul their pro-scouting staff, not overly impressed with them here for a while now.

Love that we signed Helm and Ott, redundant pieces, for what Demers got, a desperate need. Not that Demers necessarily would have signed here, still god damn infuriating.

Do we know if Ryan is making the right suggestions but just getting overruled by Holland?
