Boston Bruins Off Season Roster/ Cap Discussion

I’d like to see management focus on scoring by adding skill at forward. We certainly weren’t able to outscore our mistakes this year. The best defense is a potent offense provided that includes puck possession. The returns of Hampus and Charlie will move others on D to where they are better able to succeed. We disagree on NZ. If he can clean up his penalties I think he is top 4 all the way. +25 on this year’s team? Incredible.

I like Zadorov too. As of today* I see it as:

Lindholm-McAvoy
Zado-Joki
Lohrei-Peeke

and that is a solid NHL defense corps.

Everyone thinking they have 28 mill to spend. Assuming they sign Geekie and Lohrei thats probably around 10 mill? That leaves 18 mill to fill 8 more spots (I think).
I’m hoping it’s closer to 7-8 for those two

Geekie earned a big raise, I’m thinking around 5ish Lohrei shouldn’t get any more than 2 IMO. Both sides are better served by a bridge contract, Boston to keep the cap down and Lohrei to prove he can play better defensively and deserve a big payday.

Got to hang out with Chia again today. He talked about hiring Monty and Cassidy so early. The guy has an eye for coaches!

I gotta be honest, I'm drinking the kool-aid a bit here. I can only hope these words are serious and everyone trains hard this offseason.

Based off Zadorov's comments, I wonder if they got some kind of wink-wink/ nudge-nudge that they will be swinging big in the offseason. I can only hope it's Marner or Ehlers.

The young guys certainly have a lot of time to bulk up as well

1. Move Korpisalo (shouldn't be a problem as he had a solid year)

6. Move Mittlestadt for a pick or two

2. Sign Geekie (3x4.5-5.5 per)

3. Sign an impactful UFA center (preferably S. Bennett)

4. Sign a 2nd pair dman (Preferably Pionk)

5. Trade Leafs 2026 1st + Merkulov for Issac Howard

Roll with something like this:

Geekie - Lindholm - Pastrnak
Zacha - S. Bennett - Lysell
Howard/Locmelis - Poitras - Kastelic
Khusnutdinov - Minten - Lauko

Lindholm - McAvoy
Zadorov - Pionk
Lohrei - Peeke

Swayman
Dipietro

This would also create competition at camp. Maybe Locmelis comes in flying like he is now and makes the team? Maybe a defenseman pushes... and maybe the 1st round pick (Frondell/Hagens/Desnoyers) surprise and make it out of camp.

I might have missed someone.

I'm on board with Pionk too. Upgrading the 2nd pairing has to be a priority this offseason or else there's no point in upgrading the forwards. He'd also help cut some of McAvoy's minutes and step up for him when he gets hurt again.

I think Lohrei will be a problem. Never seen a worse learning curve. I have no faith that he’ll suddenly demonstrate poise and sound judgment starting next year. In away games the other team gets last change so they can target him and we’ll get our pockets picked. He was ridiculous this year. I think he would be great at wing. I can picture him as a young Dave Andreychuk (only half kidding). I think there is potential to harness his skills at a position that suits him better.

Well if you consider that every soft pass right to the other team, every ill-conceived pinch, and every time a goal went in against him while he was out of position facing the back boards was ACTUALLY the fault of Joe Corvo, I think these numbers actually make a lot more sense. Context is important.

Besides, no one looks at +\- anyway. The real stat we should be considering is his CCRVF%. For those unaware, this measures time on ice against skate size and factors in how many marshmallows the player can fit in his mouth at one time. Lohrei is actually in the top half of the league.

My honest true opinion?

I like Lohrei. He's young. He skates great. He does thing with the puck that nobody else on the team can do. I think he's the best PPQB on the roster. I think he was a hell of find by our amateur scouting staff and I have high hopes for him.

I'm concerned about Lohrei. The progression that I hoped to see from the beginning of the season to the end never happened. He's soft in coverage, soft in his puck distribution and far too often lost in coverage. If you're only as strong as your weakest link, the kid has to get a hell of a lot stronger in these aspects of the game or he's gonna end up a lanky MA Bergeron... And the blueline will suffer for it.

He limits his limitations and we have one hell of a player. But how we get there? I haven't the foggiest.

I could live with the coverage lapses as he matured if the compete was there. But, soft and in the wrong place is a brutal combo.

I wanted Monty fired after he threw goalie coach bob under the bus in 2023. So yes
Every time I hear that guys name I get red in the face.
Biggest phony in the league today IMO, and there are many in contention. He also, whether on purpose or not sabotaged the Bruins in the playoffs in 2023.
f*** him and the horse he rode in on!
