Boston Bruins Off Season Roster/ Cap Discussion IV

Bennet is so good. I don’t understand how you wouldn’t want him on your team. Pure winner. People don’t want Marner because he’s a regular season performer and people don’t want Bennett because he only performs in the playoffs?
Because he's going to be making 10m a year and scores 50 points a year at best?

He's a luxury piece for an already good team.

He's also always hurt and has played on 3 straight deep runs, he's not going to age well at all.

It seems like one of Bennett, Ekblad or Marchand will indeed shake loose from Florida.

I'd almost put money on it being Ekblad who they let move on.

Got a lot of miles on him, broke into the league early. They seem capable of finding quality defensemen and I think the Seth Jones deal was partially done to cover for what they decided was the inevitable loss of Ekblad. They let Montour walk last year.

Meanwhile, Ekblad and his agent must be licking their chops due to the lack of depth in free agency among D-men, especially right-shot D. I don't think north of 10 million per is out of the question at all.

They'll prioritize Bennett, try to get him done before July 1st. Marchand to me is 50/50, some team (Toronto) comes along and offers him 5 or 6 years.

You did well, until you mentioned 5- 6 years unless it was for dramatic purposes.

He’s been there best player. This is the same thing I heard people say about Tom Wilson. Playoffs are more important than reg. Season no? Not many players available UFA. Cap going up.

If my Dunks iced coffee is free from the time Marchand signs to Dec 31 I’m picking Boston

Why do you think Ehlers, is the answer, he is no more productive than Zacha, a little bit older and will cost you more money, I know everyone falls in love with his speed, but Zacha is not slow, and he is more physical, and plays center. I have banging, the drums about Swayman and Lindholm contracts how they effect filling out the rest of the roster adding Ehlers does not improve you cap flexibility. I know you used the word "hypothetical" but I think it should not have been used because we were not talking trades.

Ehlers has 7/8 seasons of scoring more goals than Zacha’s high goal total.

You can argue the merits of signing him based on the typically high UFA price, but this team needs goal scoring and he’s much better at that than Zacha.

Where does everyone stand on Dans Locmelis? It might be a little premature but I'm not sure if there is anything left for him to prove.

His coach at UMASS has incredibly high praise for him saying he does it all and if he was bigger he would be the best player in the league.

He developed unreal chemistry with Poitras down in the A. He scored 12 points in 6 games.

He went to the World Championship tournament and was the leading scorer for Latvia. Crosby even acknowledged his game vs. Canada.

If he was a 1st-2nd round pick, I think he'd have some more recognition but he appears pretty underrated around here. With a good camp and about 5 more pounds over the summer (he's at 179 right now) and I think he is going to crack the big league roster.

As much as I think it makes sense for them, I don't think there's a chance in hell Marchand signs in TOR.

I think it's either FLA or BOS. Or who knows, maybe he rides off into the sunset if they win the Cup.

I like him a lot, but I think he's a middle 6 guy. Definitely needs another year in Providence, at least to begin the year. Intriguing prospect though.

Bruins have some quality "lesser guys". Gasseau is another, who has really upped his game. I also like him for a vague personal connection as well.

Probably starts the year in Providence realistically but I bet you he makes a push mid to end of year. He seems like the perfect guy for the 3rd line who can switch between LW and C and not hurt you.

Marchand is my favorite player of all time (duh) and I don’t think he should come back to the Bruins.

His number one goal other than a Cup is to play in the Olympics - tough to do for Canada as a 38 year old. I think playing the kind of role he plays for Florida - third line, energy line, PP2, PK2 - and being immediately accepted as a leader has made it possible he gets there. Even if it’s a 13th F to start, Canada needs to bring him.

Maybe this run is enough, but to go back and have to be the second best forward in a team for a grind of a regular season at his age wouldn’t be easy. If I’m only thinking about him, I think he should sign in Florida or failing that another team where he can play that kind of role and get to go to Milan and play with Sid and Nate.

There’s family considerations involved, but one more year like that seems like the best play. He’s already in the Hall of Fame - Olympic Gold would be a pretty good capper to a crazy career.

My favorite player too. He should stay in FLA - makes sense for both parties. As much as I want to see him in a B's uniform again, I don't want to see him taking all the flack he'd get on a (probably) average team here next year as the #2 guy.

Well if anyone watched the Dallas series and especially last night

Swayman for Oettinger

McAvoy once said he told Sweeney in 2017 prior to draft how good his BU teammate was

Sweeney took Vaak and a few picks later Dallas took Oettinger in round 1 (Sweeney actually should have taken Thomas not Otter but the comment by McAvoy is the point)

Round 4 the Bruins take Swayman

Time to flip them

So, if Peeke was only a top4 guy on Team USA because they were desperate for bodies, what does that say about Lohrei, who couldn't crack that lowly lineup when the games mattered?

It says they had a lot of good Left Shot LD. Werenski, Vlasic, Skjei and Buium all LS LD to go with Kesselring and Peeke as only RS RD.

Don't know about you, but that LD group is light years better than what Boston ran out.
