Boston Bruins Off Season Roster/ Cap Discussion IV

So, if Peeke was only a top4 guy on Team USA because they were desperate for bodies, what does that say about Lohrei, who couldn't crack that lowly lineup when the games mattered?
Is this a trick question? Left side depth vs right side depth? Wasn't it Werenski-Lacombe, Skjei-Peeke, Vlasic-Kesselring with Buium as the 7?

Who was Peeke's competition for 2rd? Kesselring? LOL

I’d imagine Slavvin and Hartley would’ve been on the roster too if they weren’t in postseason right? Probably not Jones. Either way it was great to see Peeke play well in some meaningful, albeit not playoff, games for USA
I mean if McAvoy was healthy Peeke is bottom pair easily. I do love your last sentence though, these guys can hopefully bank this and feel great foe the start of the season,

Peeke is solid, just barely overpaid. I think I’d rather pay Gavrikov and Malinski/Perbix 8.5 than Fabbro and Peeke 7.5 though. Just feels more dangerous. Also would prefer Gavrikov mentor Lohrei. Maybe Peeke can do it if he’s not the only guy holding the D together after Zadorov like they did last year, but that remains to be seen.

Lohrei- Gavrikov
Zadorov - Perbix

Something like that would give Lohrei a crushing and responsible partner so he can do his dance along the blue line. Zadorov and Perbix would just shut sh!t down and top pair can feast on whatever they please.

Lohrei will be that 45-50 point guy like Krug, but the responsible defensive play needs to developed ASAP with our new coach. If you’re able to move him for one of those many big fish centers we’ve all talked about because the other team like him a lot, then sure. He’s clearly not Quinn Hughes, but I (kinda) understand why people think he might be.

I agree with you on the bolded. Better use of cap dollars.

Although I'll be honest I have zero idea what the market value is for say Fabbro or Jokiharju for that matter. The RD market being so shallow might drive their price up beyond what Boston should pay.

I think Boston likes Gavrikov they tried to acquire him before but he's arguably the most desirable left-shot D on the market and another shallow market (not quite as shallow as RD) how much does he get? Does that number start with a 6 or even a 7?

I can't see the Bruins bringing in another expensive D-man of Gavrikov's ilk and skill-set, especially with their needs up front.

Does Lohrei + Lysel + 3rd pick bring Garland?
I think Lysell for Garland 1 for 1 is fair. Guy who could walk for a guy who could (likely) be a bust. Van gets a chance at getting a younger winger for a guy they'll probably lose for nothing at season's end, Bos gets a more reliable known commodity for 2RW.

I thought he looked great in the world championship. Played with a lot of grit for his size.

Fwiw, I like Malinski as a sleeper. He has decent offensive skills and hustles. Despite saying Nelson was on MN not Col, I do follow Col, as they have been my second team basically since they moved.

I agree we have probably the worst top 12 in the league. Skill and scoring is F grade.

I'm a big Malenski fan too. I don't see a lot of Colorado but when I do he always stood out to me.

Is he a free agent? Puckpedia has him as RFA.

Lysell have no or very little value imo, VAN will never do that, I m not sur they do the trade with Lohrei + Lysell + 3rd...

Garland is better and proven.Bruins would need to attach a decent pick my bet.If Garland is a pending UFA though, just sign him after July 1st and keep prospects.

Do you see Peeke as having any qualities you'd want as a regular in an NHL dcore?

Personally I can’t wait for Peeke to be gone. He has absurdly high turnover numbers this past year for a guy who never has the puck on his stick. Even before he took on a bigger role due to injury they were high.

He’s a decent stay at home defender, but he’s not nearly as physical as originally advertised and the puck is a grenade on his stick.

I know people are obsessed with a RHD on the right side but you can find plenty of better LHD for less money to play their off side.

US coaches didn't seem to care about left or right hand. They played multiple lefties on the right side. Lacombe is a LH shot who played the right the most, but all 8 defensemen (and all 6 lefties) played in the tournament.

16. Pavel Zacha / Morgan Geekie
Center/Left Wing, Boston Bruins
Age: 28
Stats: 81 GP, 14 G, 33 A, 47 Pts
Contract: 2 years remaining, $4.75 million AAV
Scoop: On the whole, Zacha has done just about everything the Bruins could’ve hoped since they acquired him from New Jersey for Erik Haula. He’s nipped at 60 points twice. He’s played admirably at center when called upon. Geekie had a true breakout season with 33 goals, nearly doubling his previous career high. And he’ll need to be paid. Boston is in an interesting summer of transition. They’ll need to make some decisions about whom to keep and with both players positive relative to cap, they’ll have some real value on the market.

@BadBruins "I think Lohrei's horrible 2nd half is giving him a little too much grief here. I'm glad they fed him those minutes (where he was clearly overmatched most nights).

I think everybody feels that way about Lohrei.

I think a lot of negative comments are in response to A) people saying he should start next season on the first or second pair and B) people wiping away his mistakes like they have nothing to do with him (i.e. blaming it on others, bad coaching, bad partners, etc).

He's a good prospect with a high ceiling, but he can't play defense at an NHL level right now. He just can't. That doesn't mean he can't improve. I think we're all hoping and expecting this is a good development year for him. One of the reasons I wanted Mitch Love was because of his work with Washington's defense. I thought that's a guy who can Lohrei to reach his ceiling.

I would offer Lohrei a 1 year deal for $1.5 and tell him he has to go out there and prove he can be a capable NHL defender. Should he improve like we all hope and expect, then he'll be in line for a big payday next summer. A lot more than he'd make on a 2 year bridge.
I agree.

I think with his point totals, teams will still like him — so what you propose is not a great risk to him. Might be a good play for both parties. Risk for him, but risk for Boston.

I do think intense coaching (you are right about his D overall) with him on 3rd paring with the right partner will help. Kid seems like a gamer and I’ve seen no indication of moping or not listening which I like. A lot.
