Boston Bruins Off Season Roster/ Cap Discussion IV

Hoping he's been shot into the sun. Rather see that UFA there than Peeke there.

And this board has been wrong about Lohrei over and over since he was drafted. Not surprised to see it continue.

Did we watch the same hockey down the stretch when Peeke was elevated in minutes? He was one of our best! But particularly for the cap hit.

Apparently not. One of our best? Woof.

Why do you think Team USA snagged him for the world's? Because he sucked?

Also When Charlie and Hampus were hurt and Carlo was traded, who was playing so well in your mind that they were better than Peeke? What names am I suddenly leaving out? After Zadarov, Peeke was the best. Hence one of our best.

You're getting a #3 ceiling some nights at #5 money, and you're unhappy?

#3 ceiling? Come on man.

A lot of fans need to get their expectations for this off-season in check. Going to be plenty of disappointed folks on this board methinks come mid-July.

For one more year (a transition year at that) Andrew Peeke is perfectly fine as part of this roster, especially considering they only have one other NHL D-man who shoots right (McAvoy).

I've said it before, but the Bruins didn't trade Brandon Carlo for a 1st and top prospect to turn around and use picks and prospects to bring in some well-established right-shot D-man for the 2nd pair.

They'll keep Peeke, they might sign Joker, or they might sign Fabbro, or they might sign a different right-shot D-man who isn't expensive in years and $$$$.

You look at some of the moves Florida made last summer to fill out their roster and there are fans here who would of lost their mind at some of those names at the time.

I'm not putting all the blame on it either, but putting a rookie offensive minded D with a guy who has no idea where to go and is out of position all the time isn't exactly a recipe for success.
Fair. I've legit seen mind boggling plays by Lohrei to the point of me actually laughing at how insane his decision making was. I think his f*** ups cost the Bruins far more goals against than Peeke.

Lohrei is young, very nice offensive upside but he's a f***ing disaster defensively. Stevie Wonder could even see that.

needed bodies

You don't usually get almost 19 minutes in the finals of the worlds if you're a bottom pairing D. Dude can play.

He played as a 3 or higher for us down the stretch. Plenty of times he looked great at it.

I have no issues if he's our #4-#6. None at all.
Our results with him up in the lineup sucked. He has stony hands and is an average skater. He was a third pair with the woeful Jackets and he is a third pairing d here and not that great a one.

@BadBruins "I think Lohrei's horrible 2nd half is giving him a little too much grief here. I'm glad they fed him those minutes (where he was clearly overmatched most nights).

Patience and coaching and this kid will be a stud IMO.

I think everybody feels that way about Lohrei.

I think a lot of negative comments are in response to A) people saying he should start next season on the first or second pair and B) people wiping away his mistakes like they have nothing to do with him (i.e. blaming it on others, bad coaching, bad partners, etc).

He's a good prospect with a high ceiling, but he can't play defense at an NHL level right now. He just can't. That doesn't mean he can't improve. I think we're all hoping and expecting this is a good development year for him. One of the reasons I wanted Mitch Love was because of his work with Washington's defense. I thought that's a guy who can Lohrei to reach his ceiling.

I would offer Lohrei a 1 year deal for $1.5 and tell him he has to go out there and prove he can be a capable NHL defender. Should he improve like we all hope and expect, then he'll be in line for a big payday next summer. A lot more than he'd make on a 2 year bridge.

What happened to Peeke?

I would look to move on from him. Stand up guy, decent player, but he just isn't reliable enough to trust with top 4 minutes. And if I had to choose who the starting 3rd pair RHD is, I like Joker a little bit more. I think he's more sound in just about every faucet of the game than Peeke and Peeke's salary is too much for a guy coming off the bench.

Peeke is solid, just barely overpaid. I think I’d rather pay Gavrikov and Malinski/Perbix 8.5 than Fabbro and Peeke 7.5 though. Just feels more dangerous. Also would prefer Gavrikov mentor Lohrei. Maybe Peeke can do it if he’s not the only guy holding the D together after Zadorov like they did last year, but that remains to be seen.

Lohrei- Gavrikov
Zadorov - Perbix

Something like that would give Lohrei a crushing and responsible partner so he can do his dance along the blue line. Zadorov and Perbix would just shut sh!t down and top pair can feast on whatever they please.

Lohrei will be that 45-50 point guy like Krug, but the responsible defensive play needs to developed ASAP with our new coach. If you’re able to move him for one of those many big fish centers we’ve all talked about because the other team like him a lot, then sure. He’s clearly not Quinn Hughes, but I (kinda) understand why people think he might be.

I’d imagine Slavvin and Hartley would’ve been on the roster too if they weren’t in postseason right? Probably not Jones. Either way it was great to see Peeke play well in some meaningful, albeit not playoff, games for USA

Someone mentioned in the previous thread about Conor Garland being overrated. This is his average NHL line based on 82 games. This makes him the Bruins second line RW easily at 29. I would move Lohrei for him if he signs an extension. Add his speed and general annoyance factor into those numbers

Does Lohrei + Lysel + 3rd pick bring Garland?
