Do you feel the same way about our beloved core of Bergeron/Krejci/Chara choking over the years? Remember Philly coming back from down 3 games and 3 goals in game 7?

Winning is harddddd

Yeah, actually I sort of do. Not nearly to the degree I do with Marner, obviously. They did win one and get close twice, but that core absolutely won the bare minimum. Lots of series they lost that they shouldn't have. Lots of game 7 losses at home.

Lots.

I don’t think anyone is claiming your scenario isn’t an option, we’re just saying it seems unlikely. It’s all speculation.

People in Toronto are clamoring for change. They’ve been running it back with the same core group for years and it hasn’t worked. They have literally changed everything but the core. Fans want to see a different approach.

Does it matter though in Toronto? Fans will still pay obscene prices for tickets and gobble up anything and everything Maple Leafs. That franchise doesn't have to play by the same rules as other franchises, win or lose it will always be a license to print money.

I also question what management think about this season. I don't think it aligns with what the fans are thinking or what the media talking heads beating into their brains. Overhauled their D in the past 12 months, 1st year under a new head coach, won their division, won a round, starting goalie injured in Rd. 2, lost in 7 to the defending champs. And the core will change, Tavares will be gone. There's your change.

I think my scenario of Marner and his family wanting to stay close to home (the only home he's ever known really) is far more plausible scenario than this "fresh start" or "greener pastures" that everyone thinks he's chasing.

Watch Montreal here and they are not far from Ontario. If Leafs don't keep him I can see him landing there.

Maybe. Although I do think they are more concerned with having the money to extend their own core guys.

They do have part of their core locked up for awhile at good numbers. But in the long-run Suzuki/Caufield/Slavkovsky/Hutson/Demidov are gonna be expensive if they reach their potential.

Maybe deadline was a taste of things to come. I don’t see Sweeney just sticking to FA this summer. He’s smarter than moving out the names he did and just overpaying on the open market. Wouldn’t be surprised to see a trade or OS attempt. Atmosphere feels like he wants to play (manage) for his name and legacy on this “prove it” contract.

I don’t think Shanahan took the job in Toronto to print money. I think he took the job to bring them their first championship in over 50 years.

It will be interesting to see how it all plays out. If Marner does hit free agency, I hope the Bruins are there with a bag of cash, Misha Donskov and a love note from @LJReborn .

In the new playoff format, it’s more about who you lose to then when you lose. Unfortunate reality of this format is good teams that don’t require a blow up lose early. think the same about Tampa and to a lesser extent, LA as well.

Changes needed? No doubt about it. The Leafs most successful run the last 5 years has been a 2nd round exit. But if it were me in that seat, it would look much more similar to Florida’s turnaround when they shook up their core after realizing the team they had built would not compete the way they wanted against the Atlantic than Boston’s (albeit forced by performance) strip down this past season.

Their ace in the hole is Easton Cowan though. Look out for this kid. I don’t say it lightly that I think he could replace John Tavares and they can use the free cash to re-sign Marner(if he wants to), Knies, and add to their middle 6. I do not expect the Leafs below 100 points next season

Bag of cash for who Shanahan?

Do you think the Bruins keep Swayman and Korpisalo as a goalie tandem?

I don't see Boston paying to move Korpisalo's contract (unless its at the cost of a late pick or age'd prospect). I also don't see them buying him out. I'd say the only way that isn't your tandem next season (besides injury) is if he's awful during the pre-season and one of the kids plays lights out.

Boston could waive him and if he's claimed then great. If he's not then you have ~$1.1m you save in cap, but it almost all be eaten up by which ever young goalie would be the back-up. So in the end you'd basically be paying the same no for your tandem for next year.

Let me be the first to welcome John Tavares and Brock Boeser to Boston.

If he’s happy with his current situation and the Leafs don’t want him, he can sign in Buffalo. Keep his friends and family 2hrs away.

Possible location for him. I've seen Detroit mentioned as well. He won't have to worry about playoff games in either location so perfect for him.

Here’s an unfair aspect of being a Leaf.

They could literally start the season 10-1-1 and finish 58-15-9, and every single week there would be articles, podcasts and fan posts saying something like…..we don’t care unless they win a cup.

They can’t even truly “enjoy the ride” so to speak because of their baggage.

That TML organization is cursed. Look up the Ballard cover up of the 70's and 80's, it's gross and well deserved. I'll wager that MM and any other players who leave Toronto this summer will perform far better for their next team. Call me superstitious but the Sox were cursed for nearly a century also, it happens.

Btw what's the point premium Marner benefits from in playing with Matthews/Knies and a power play that also includes Nylander and Tavares?

On our team he doesn't even get to play with Pasta. What point total we getting from X-Zacha-Marner? think it's closer to 70-80 than 100 (and for 13-15M).

I figured as much. I also know several on here who were also opposed to obtaining the following players due to their performances and rumoured character traits:

Monahan
Bennett
DuBois
Reinhart
Miller
Strome
Perry

...and then clamour and complain about the Bruins inability to find top six talent. While I'm not directing it at you personally, I will never hesitate to put forward West Coast players that are potentially elite level talent that can be traded for.
Why would Vancouver trade Pettersson?
