Boston Bruins Off Season Roster/ Cap Discussion III

One thing I’ll never understand is how so many can take a small sample of a players career that isn’t good, and expect that that will be their norm going forward, instead of assuming they’ll replicate the good years.

Swayman has been good to very good aside from last season, which was a mess from start to finish…for 95% of the team. (Yes, I know his holdout played a big part…I’m focusing on his play thought).

Why are so many assuming that last year is his new baseline?

Why are people doing the same with Lindholm.

It was one bad year. It happens….l.but it doesn’t mean it will be the norm.
Elias has had more than one bad year.

Brady Martin is who I would draft after a couple of drinks when I enter into the ‘seems like fun zone’

If this was 2015 not 2025 Hell yah

If
Schaefer
Misa
Hagens
Martone
Desnoyers
Frondell
are gone

I’m taking Eklund

We need a winger who can match up with Cole Caufield

Especially after the news Crosby has blessed Locmelis in World tourney in Sweden
You want Caufield type than LJ Mooney is your guy in the 2nd round

“L.J. Mooney came to play in this one. He was using that quick and darting speed all over the ice. He was engaged physically and fighting to get underneath position in order to win battles. Set up a goal early on off of the rush where he faked the inside attack, circled the net and slipped a wrap pass to the slot for an easy tap-in tally. Added a highlight reel goal that saw him attack downhill, 360 spin off the check, couple burst stride and ripped it upstairs. And while the production and offensive attacks were nice, I was most impressed with his general effort level. Hard backchecks resulted in strips, a couple of stiff hits in the neutral zone, and hard battles along the wall and at the point in the defensive end. This is LJ at his best. Engaged physically, pushing the pace, being creative, feet constantly churning, hitting spots, working give and gos. This player can be a pick.“

All I have heard about this guy the excuses that you all make for him, I never heard of injuries in camp, I was under the belief was he missed camp because his wife had a baby. Tell your boss you need a maternity time off after getting a big raise, what a joke.

Must be nice to have everything figured out.

This is a really good point and I'll tell you who it makes me think of the most...Zibanejad.

It would be great for one time we actually capitalized on another team having this mentality...selling low on a player coming off a down year.

Looking at that recent rumor (take it with a grain of salt) for Zib + 2nd for Mitts. It's actually insane how low his value is if true.

Last year most fans would say Zibanejad is a lock as a #1C. Probably top 20/25 on most lists. He really is an unbelievable talent. Elite PP scorer. Selke finalist.

This year Rangers team was rotted at the core. Something was off with that group and it appears they are more than fine with moving him, ignoring his last 6 years of almost a ppg.

And the craziest part is somehow 8.5 for the next 5 years until he is 36 is somehow this awful deal. It might be one year long for my liking but the guy is insanely durable. I don't see how they don't jump on this.

Recency bias.

Blessed Locmelis?

He’s had some very, very good ones too.

Blessed Locmelis?
Yes - as did his college coach who has won one national title, sent many guys to the Pros, and was a prior NHL assistant coach

Give me a 50 + point 3 zone 2/3 C who can play both special teams and a major cog in a playoff team

Forget Bergy we should do cartwheels if he’s vintage Avs Chris Drury

I see a guy giving up shit goals, and is a problem on top of it, that has nothing to do with the rest of the league, I am talking about the player, all that cap space tied up is stupid, and fans that signing him was a great idea, hope you get enjoy watching him play somewhere else. Being short sighted is when his NTC kicks in and he has all the leverage, and we know how that works with him and his agent.

What you call "shit goals" is just a routine goal in today's NHL.

Lets say the Bruins do trade Mitts for Zibanejad, sign Ehlers to 8.25x7, Geekie 5x4, Lohrei 2.5x2 and Fabbro 4x4. Maybe add a few more vets and minimum contracts to round out the roster but is this good enough to make the playoffs? I think so.

Zacha Zibanejad Pastrnak
Ehlers Lindholm Geekie
Khus/7th Poitras Lysell
Lauko Minten Kastelic
Beecher

Lindholm McAvoy
Zadorov Fabbro
Lohrei Peeke
Vet

Swayman
Korpi

Can always swap Zacha and Geekie, this just balances out the handedness more. Korpi could also still be moved for additional cap space. Would definitely still need to add to the 3rd line at the TDL but I think this is the best roster we could put together while keeping the 7th overall.

ok let's give Marner 13-15M now!

What is not to love about how this man played the last 4 games. Is that not a guy you build the top line of the Bruins around? Let's go!

Marchand is a good fit with that Florida team. They were wise to add him for a playoff run and I’m guessing they will try to keep him around.

From Marchand’s point of view, as a free agent this summer, the chance to keep playing with Florida will be tempting. He no longer has the stress and focus of being captain in Boston and he can play with an established team that suits his style of play.

From the Bruins perspective they have the opportunity to move on from an older player and continue reshaping the team with younger players. How this ends in free agency will be very interesting.

Any fan who just watched that game and still wants Marner on the Bruins for 12+ mill a year for the next 7 years is truly out of their ever loving mind.

Hard to not view him as a regular season player only at this point.

Can you win with him as the #2 forward? I'm not sure.

I mean, he has put up close to a point per game in the playoffs.

Earlier today Lou remarked how good Tyler Seguin is in the playoffs. Seguin averages 40 points per 82 playoff games. Bergeron averaged 60 points. Marner averages 74.

I know the numbers are bad in elimination games, but again, who on that team has good numbers in elimination games? How does a pass-first player rack up points when nobody scores? Not a total excuse but it does make me wonder what he'd do in a different environment with different players. I'd be willing to find out. $12m in 5 years (when all our draft picks are popping) will probably be equal to an $8m guy now.

Folks doubts in Marner are well founded... but I'd still sign him.

I don't disagree that it wasn't a great finish. Call him a reclamation project if you want. I think it's worth seeing what he looks like outside of that culture, away from that fish bowl.

He's a regular season player in Toronto. Does he produce in the playoffs outside of that pressure cooker? IDK. Feels like a guy whose at his best the more relaxed he is.
