I live close to Toronto and watch a great deal of their games.
Marner is a heck of a playmaker and hockey player.
He averages around 92 points a year.
If he stays in Toronto, there is no way they are paying him more than Matthews ( 13.25), will be closer to Willy's deal at 11.5M.
What is he worth.......he is worth the amount any team will pay him.
How much do I think he will end up getting?
IMO some team will over pay and give him 12.5-13
Your point is precisely correct:

Marner is worth whatever the highest bidder will pay.

Given their predicament -- an "offensive structure" comprised of Pastrnak, The Geek, & (one prays) Elias Lindholm, with little behind them save metaphorical tumble weeds - the Bruins should pay the player what he wants.

Is Marner a mercenary? Probably.

Would he be worth every penny, if only to pique fan/media interest and assist in bringing home the all important playoff gate?

Absolutely.

No on Marner

However, if Jack Eichel UFA 2026 wants to play in his hometown centering David Pastrnak and with his buddy Charlie McAvoy, and doesn’t do an extension I’d trade 7 & Mittelstadt etc for a year early

Necas similar - if he and Pastrnak want to play on the same team the Bruins need a RW2 and if no extension the Bruins are in play

Both guys could resign but until they do …..
I've been wondering if Vegas does their annual 'this is the new UFA, we want him and will jettison out another player' and Boston can capitalize.

If Eichel became available, you'd easily trade the 7th OA and more for him. Easily.

Hertl, hmm. That's tougher but also an addition to the Bruins over what they currently have.

Stone? Not sure they'd move him.

Vegas signs Marner.
Vegas trades away Eichel or Hertl to fit Marner in.

To start with, I wouldn't want Boeser at north of $8 mil. Or even $7 mil.

Are you suggesting there was a time when the Kings were willing to trade Vilardi or Byfield for Debrusk? That's hard to believe. You would think with Debrusk wanting a trade that would have happened.

My bad on per 82 game numbers. 30 goals and 34 assists does not equal 68 points. Should have been 64. Full career numbers.
Yea fully agree. Because of cap inflation I can understand over 7, but don’t like it.

Kings were rumored back in 2021 as well as more recent years if I remember right. Not saying they were offering Byfield or Vilardi to us in those moments, just that they had both at one point, didn’t know who to move, and eventually traded Vilardi who would’ve been a really fine pick up. Still would be if something goes sideways with his negotiations this summer.

Why would you trade Eichel, to fit Marner in?

If Florida advances is the 1st rounder a 2027 or 2028? I know they traded a 1st to Chicago too but not sure what year that one was
I think the terms state if it's a cloudy night in Florida on Halloween then it's a 2027, if a black cat named Felix sleeps from 2-4 pm on December 4th it's also a 2027 if the 2026 Halloween night is clear. Also you have the subclause stating whoevers youngest roster player fathers a child first shall be called Brad And his social media rights owned by that players team. Complex I know, but that's how I interpret it. Oh...and Chicago will challenge that ruling but the courts immediately decline taking because....it's dirt bag Chicago with no morals.

Works for me.

I wonder if Sweeney is going to try and replicate his summer '23 signings July 1 and go after a Pacioretty type (1M\1yr) not that he would ever sign with Boston. A JVR\Shattenkirk type signings.

They had basically negative cap space in the summer of 23 , thus the Hall trade He actually did a reasonable job finding some pieces that helped contribute to a playoff team.

They have a lot of cap space this summer. I would think fans would be rightfully upset if they go out and sign 4 guys at the minimum to fill out the open spots on the roster.

I tend to agree to not overpay for mediocrity, but there are some decent if older players. I don't want any 1 million dollar signing playing in the top 6 (preferably not top 9)

It would behoove him to sign some cheap vets a la JVR and sell them next March. I’d like to move Torontos first for an impact top 6 player, and if you can net a 2nd off someone like Palmieri or the like, we still get darts to throw around the board or package together.

You might be able to get Robertson and Holtz for 1.54, which is no compensation. Two more young players to add to the quick turnaround effort.
In a past life where we signed Tufte and Jones in the offseason, I wonder if he has the foresight to see how these names could potentially make up the majority of a 3rd line for cheap next to someone like Locmelis. Bourque is real high on the value list, but any of these names would be choice. If they opt to swing big up top, this is how you maximize output from the bottom.

Folks if you aren't excited about spending a combined 22M on Sway and Marner as a good chunk of the backbone of this team, then what are you even doing here!

These are two tenacious high character young men you anchor a franchise to

The models say this team projects to 96 points.

Geekie - Elias - Pasta
Marchy - Mitts - Boeser
Khusy - Zacha - Poitras
Koepke - Minten - Kastelic

Hampus - McAvoy
Zadorov - Joker
Lohrei - Peeke

Swayman-Korpisalo

Who's got the over? Who's got the under?

This team is likely a contender for wild card pending injuries, however fans need to think of Boeser as another Debrusk. He is not the superstar category.

I also would have Zacha as the 2nd center unless Mittelstadt proves he can elevate his career in Boston.

I prefer Lauko to Koepke. Khustodinov is a major question mark but that is how it is going to have to be. A shame Lysell appears to be finished, or the Providence coach is clueless for benching him in AHL playoffs to play the plethora of failed NHLers.
